Campsite

General

  • Small, simple and peaceful site in the Camarthenshire countryside
  • Tenby, Folly Farm and Heatherton World of Activities within 40 minutes
  • A five-minute drive from Dylan Thomas' Laugharne and Pendine beach

Feeling poetic? You’ll feel at home on this family-run site a few miles from where Dylan Thomas penned his verses.

Brook House Camping is in a quiet and secluded spot with woodlands behind, open farmland in front and views stretching down to the Gower peninsula. It’s a splendid spot for wildlife watching (not for nothing is the surrounding area called Cwm Curyll, the Valley of the Hawk) and all that this cracking part of Camarthenshire has to offer.

The site has toilets and hot showers as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer funded by honesty box; there's also a barn with music and DVDs to keep everyone entertained when the weather's not behaving itself.

Shops and eats are five minutes’ drive away in Laugharne, and so are pubs; this is where Dylan Thomas did his best work, after all... Take the 10-minute Dylan’s Walk from Laugharne centre past the Writing Shed and ending up at the Boat House, where the poet spent his final years: there’s a small exhibition there, along with spectacular views over the Taf estuary and Gower peninsula and the chance to spot egrets, herons, seals and otters.

A longer circular trail around the town leads up to the Norman castle, before taking you back to toast the bard’s memory at his favourite watering spot, Brown’s Hotel. If you’re not scribbling sonnets after that, you never will be…

A lovely location. A nice, tidy & clean site with good facilities (including dish washing & laundry). Run by friendly people who were happy to help if needed. We had fun watching the chickens, swallows & bats & meeting Thistle the dog. Ideal for a quiet get away.

    Disliked:

TV & phone signal were intermittent (we watched DVD's). It's not the sites fault, just something to be aware of if the thought of being without tech for a few days drives you into a panic. For us, it was fine.

Last minute booking for a night away in our camper van.
Small level site with 8 pitches and friendly owners.
Good location between Pendine and Laugharne, just off the main road but still a quiet location.
Older style showers and toilets but clean and plenty of hot water.
Great location for an overnight stay.

We booked a 2night stay at Brook house last minute and thought the site looked nice and was very affordable. We most definitely chose well! It was a very relaxed place. When we arrived a chalk board told us which pitch to take and other campers were very helpful too.
It is a small quaint site with good amenities. There are labelled bins for recycling (an added plus as they care about the environment) and the toilets, showers and kitchen were all clean and easy to use. Another wonderful bonus is the barn which has tables, chairs, a music system, lights and a projector screen to watch films! It is a great place to stay and if the sky is clear you get a perfect view of the stars at night. I was happy to receive a personal email upon booking explaining where abouts to find the campsite as the sat nav can possibly take you in the wrong direction. This was a lovely personal touch. Thank you for having us Brook house camping, we will return. Rebecca and family.

This was a small simple get away from it all site with outstanding hosts. The site is raised up above the quiet road outside offering lovely far reaching views. The is good shelter from bad weather beside the hedge and bank around two sides of the site. The location is a little away from it all which we liked especially that there is little or no phone signal!
The hosts made a point of meeting everyone morning and evening with their friendly manner and helpful demeanour which gave the site a really friendly feel. Justin and Rosie made sure we were getting the most from our stay and helped us many times with advice and recommendations.

    Quiet and peaceful site.
Well located to get to nearby towns of Tenby and Carmarthen.
The owners of the site are very welcoming and friendly.

    Disliked:

The site has two rooms with Toilet/sink and Shower in each.
Even though there are only 8 pitches on this site, we found occasions when we wanted to use the loo but other guests were taking showers.
This meant a wait of over 20 minutes on one occasion.
I do believe they have planning permission for a shower/ toilet block which the site would really benefit from.

Heading from Laugharne towards Pendine, the site is the last property on the right and the campsite is just after the stone barn. Do not take the little turning in the middle of Brook.

Local attractions

Laugharne is a handy spot for joining up with the Wales Coastal Path, whose Camarthenshire sections serve up a rich spread of wetlands and salt marshes, pines and dunes.

You’ll find it hard to resist the beaches as you go by, and the one at Pendine (five minutes’ drive) is a particularly special example: the wide sands on this beach stretch for seven miles, and on windy days you may feel as if you’re far out to sea. Malcolm Campbell homed in on Pendine’s natural benefits for his land speed record in 1924; learn more at the Museum of Speed.

For those who want to speed around on their own, Heatherton World of Activities (30 minutes) has go-karts along with bumper boats, giant jumping pillows, high ropes and just about everything else for the thrillseeking family. Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (40 minutes) is the place for fun times of a furrier kind; meet lions, rhinos and penguins, look giraffes in the eye on the high-up walkway and finish up with the traditional fairground.

For contrasting calm, head out by boat from Tenby (40 minutes), for a seal spotting cruise or to visit Caldey Island, home to monks, rare birds and isolated beaches.

Must see
