General

  • Scenic site steps away from the Offa's Dyke path
  • Pods on the bank of the River Alyn
  • An hour from Snowdonia with many activities close by

Walks on the Offa’s Dyke Path, mountain bike rides in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty… bed down at Bryn Dwr Pods, in the village of Llandegla, for easy access to both.

This gorgeous little north Wales glamping site (little indeed, with just a couple of pods…) is in a fab location just 50 yards from the Offa’s Dyke Path and on the banks of the River Alyn, best viewed with drink in hand from the pod’s decked area, which extends out over the water. A mountain bike centre is a couple of miles away, and folk who choose to pedal their way around the area can stash their bikes safely on site.

When not walking or pedalling, you might like to consider trips to Chester Zoo or to roam around local towns including Ruthin (15 minutes away by car, and also the place for your supermarket supplies), Llangollen and Wrexham.

If you fancy an alfresco evening, the folk here are very happy to you to light up a barbie or snuggle up with drinks by the firepit; a pub is 10 minutes’ walk away if you’d rather cosy up there. Back at base, the pods too are kept cosy with their own heating and lighting; showers, toilets and a washing-up area are a short stroll away in the main house.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

As the site is rural and beside the river it is advisable to bring a torch, wellies and warm clothing for the evening.

The pod was beautifully made, warm, ideal location. Stream to play in, even caught some little stickleback fish! The hostess was so welcoming, you share bathroom and kitchen facilities with her but never saw her. Had a lovely fire in the fire pit at night and went to sleep listening to the stream !so much more convenient for children than a tent. Very sound proof even with a screaming baby !, and very warm. Friendly local pub and great service from Julie.

If I was to be really picky probably just no outside tap near the pitch but it was only a 30 metre walk so that is being quite picky

Great location next to small stream and St. Tecla’s Well. Julie was an amazing host, knowledgable and kind. This is a basic pod. Think staying with a friend’s friend- you share their bathroom and it’s a living, working house and if that’s not your bag, I’d advise something more glam. What you DO get is a lovely host where nothing seems too much trouble. We rocked up on a Monday and the local pub was closed and Julie drove us to Llangollen. Great nights kip in the pods too! They are warm and spacious and a nice change from canvas on the Offa’s Dyke Path. Llandegla community shop and cafe is just around the corner and a handy place to stock up on essentials and a hearty breakfast! Thanks Julie for making it a memorable stay for me and my 10 year old!

Peaceful location next to a river. Very friendly and welcoming. Our 3 year old twins enjoyed the experience.

    Disliked:

Shower and toilet facilities. These were accessed in the house next to the pods but you had to walk through the kitchen and utility room to get to it which were very messy and not tidied and cleaned the 3 days we were there. There were a lot of personal items in the bathroom as it's the owners and some dog biscuits on the floor which was not cleaned during our stay there. We did not want to use it the last day and put us of staying again which is a shame as the pods were lovely. I think if you are going to have guests using your own facilities it needs to be clean and tidy at all times every day or provide some other basic clean ones that can be used by campers.

Local attractions

Bryn Dwr is in the village of Llandegla, with lots of activities close by, including stunning walks along the Offa’s Dyke Path, clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking, canoeing and fly fishing. At the nearby bird gardens in Pen-Y-Ffrith (10 minutes’ drive), you can watch the birdies while you meander among woodland streams, pools of trout, waterfalls and a lake and goggle at the lovely views of the Welsh landscape.

It’s an easy trip from here to the brilliant Chester Zoo (35 minutes), whose 110 acres are home to thousands of animals. If little legs won’t cope with getting around it all, take a ride on the monorail or sail through the islands on a boat trip.

Nearby Llangollen (20 minutes) is at its liveliest in Eisteddfod season, when the town is packed with musicians and dancers from around the world. It’s well worth a visit at other times too: daytrippers can take a short chug through the hills on the steam railway, or go for an old-school narrowboat ride, pulled by a horse.

Must see

  • Chester Castle (15.4 miles)
  • Cheshire Military Museum (15.5 miles)
  • Chester Cathedral (15.7 miles)
