General

  • Scenic site steps away from the Offa's Dyke path
  • Pods on the bank of the River Alyn
  • An hour from Snowdonia with many activities close by

Bryn Dwr Camping Pods is a gorgeous site with just two well-maintained pods snuggled in dappled shade 50 yards from the Offa's Dyke path on the banks of the River Alyn, both with their own deck extending out over the water.

The pods have their own lighting and heating, with showers, toilets and dishwashing facilities just a short stroll away in the main house. There’s plenty of parking and safe storage for bikes.

Please note

As we are in the heart of the countryside and beside the river it is advisable to bring a torch, wellies and warm clothing for the evening.

Great Location & very peaceful in the bottom of the village.
Rode our mountain bikes in the forest in the day, then called for a pint in the crown before heading down to camping pods which were very well insulated & warm for a late November night.
Sat outside with the fire pit having a beer & food.

Julie was very fantastic & locked our bikes away safely.

Perfectly idyllic location and a truly lovely getaway. 20/11/2018

Perfectly idyllic location. The stream right next to the cabin was the dream soundtrack to early morning coffee in the foggy hills. It was lovely to be on such a small site, with just one other cabin, and no tents. With the other cabin empty, we had the place to ourselves - our own private getaway. The owner was really lovely and helpful, with lots of really great advice, suggestions and pointers, even making a dinner reservation for us at the pub upon our arrival. It was a little strange to have to go into the owner's own house to use the amenities, but they were so accommodating, and we didn't really bump into them, so it didn't feel like a problem at all, and when it was particularly cold, it was great to be able to sit for a few minutes in the warm, rustic kitchen, make a cup of tea, and just take a cosy pew while the cabin warmed up. It was nice, after a shower, to not have to worry about freezing your damp self on the sprint back to the cabin, because there was a full proper bathroom in which to bathe, leisurely dry off in the warmth and get properly dry and dressed before heading back, hot drink in hand. No worrying about your clothes getting wet, either, seeing as it wasn't a cubicle. It was our puppy's first time away, and our first visit to the area, and it couldn't have gone more smoothly. We're already planning our next trip, and to bring friends, and we've only been home 5 minutes.

I suppose the only real change I would make is to have wifi access, but that ended up not being too much of a problem, as we just downloaded some telly when we had wifi elsewhere, though if we'd have stayed any longer, or needed to stay connected to work or family, I think it would have become frustrating, as the signal isn't good enough to stream anything and barely keeps up with Facebook. For an off-season stay (mid-November), £50/night is a bit on the expensive side, but I don't feel it was a waste of money.

Ideal for walkers on the Offa's Dyke path being literally few metres off the trail, Bryn Dawr is cosy even in November when I stayed.
Julie, the hostess, is very helpful with a pre- visit call to ask approx time of arrival.
Plus when you do arrive there's local information, use of the bathroom and kitchen, tea & coffee, etc, and overall I came away with an impression of an organised and well-run place. Well recommended.
Incidentally, don't forget the community shop next door: the staff in there are great and genuinely interested in visitors.

We had a wonderful stay at Bryn Dwr pods. The location was beautiful and fantastic for our dog, the pod was clean and comfortable with an effective heater that kept us nice and warm, and the fire pit was amazing! Julie was friendly and helpful. There is also a nice pub down the road! We will definitely visit again.

    Disliked:

There was nothing we didn’t like, but a bit more lighting might be good as it did get very dark at night :)

Nice little retreat for those needing a warm dry alternative to camping in a tent. Access to a fire pit, plenty of wood available to buy cheaply.
Owner allows use of their bathroom, shower and kitchen.

Very accommodating and a nice quiet place to relax between the mountain bike riding we did at Llandegla.

We had strong 4g mobile signal too.

Fantastic stay with family had 2 adults 2 baby’s and a large dog all fitted inside fine toilet and shower facilities are shared with the owners and are inside the main house just a short walk from pods. Best take something to cook on for yourself as the kitchen facilities although you have acess you can only use the kettle and microwave. The pods are very clean with a heater and lighting. recommend taking a multi plug with you.
    Owners are lovely

The pods where perfect and in a lovely location and surrounding. My son loved the lake, and there was hours of fun to be had in there. I also had my four month old with us. Was a little worried about his first time in the outdoors camping etc. This location took all that worry away. The use of the kitchen meant I could clean/sterile/ and make bottles with no trouble. Julie was so helpful and nothing was to much trouble. She sorted reservations at the nearest pub for us for tea & give us lots of recommendations for local attractions which filled are weekend with tons of family fun & memories. We will certainly be returning

That there was a little river at the side of pods. That we had an adventure in and locals and village were nice. The family that was in the second pod. The owner was pleasant and she was helpful when I couldn't find my way. The camp fire. Stepping stones in the river

    Disliked:

That after driving for nearly 2hrs to find that they are literally in someones back garden. We'd booked thurs-sat but left on Friday. The pods are tiny 3 single mats and that's all we could fit in, they are tiny. Best suited for a couple. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were in the house of the owner, which was very untidy which is not very nice if you are inviting someone in your home. It cost £100 to stay for 2 nights but like I said we left. I wouldn't recommend using the camp beds as they are more like mats, and some of ours were damp. Luckily we did bring our own. I did suggest maybe getting a small canopy up as when I set our barbi I got soaked as there is no shelter. The outdoor furniture was mouldy so we had to cover it with blankets.

Local attractions

Bryn Dwr is in the village of Llandegla, with lots of activities right on the doorstep, including stunning walks along the Offa’s Dyke Path, clay pigeon shooting, mountain biking, canoeing and fly fishing. At the nearby bird gardens in Pen-Y-Ffrith, you can watch the birdies while you meander among woodland streams, pools of trout, waterfalls and a lake and goggle at the lovely views of the Welsh landscape.

It’s an easy trip from here to the brilliant Chester Zoo, whose 110 acres are home to thousands of animals (and if it’s raining, you can always take the monorail tour).

Nearby Llangollen is lively even outside of Eisteddfod season, and well worth a visit too: daytrippers can take a short chug through the fresh green hills on the steam railway, or go for an old school narrowboat ride, pulled by a horse.
