General

  • Farm site with spectacular estuary and peninsula views
  • Equestrian centre on site with pony trekking
  • On the Mawddach Trail

Don’t fret if you’re not sure how to pronounce the name of Bwlchgwyn Farm and Pony Trekking - you’ll be rendered speechless anyway by the pretty special views...

The camping fields on this large livestock farm overlook the Mawddach Estuary and Llŷn Peninsula, where the mountains of Snowdonia hit the sea, and the pitches are terraced to make the most of the panoramic vista. Guests will find all the usual amenities on site: new free hot showers, new loos, a washing-up area and a launderette.

The on-site pony trekking includes options for both beginners and expert riders for a tourism advert-worthy ride around the estuary or along the beach. The Mawddach Trail goes right through the site land for walkers, cyclists and truly unmissable views.

The equestrian centre also has dog training classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and agility classes on Sundays; please enquire on arrival.

Id just like to say I really enjoyed my stay at the Bwlchgwyn Farm and Pony Trekking campsite. Upon arrival we rang the bell and the woman who runs the site was really helpful. She went the extra mile and we followed her in her van to where we are camping. Parked up and she helped us find a spot and where to park the car. As its quite hilly as you can imagine.

The views from the campsite are really quite amazing. You can see a really good view of Barmouth beach from the campsite. Also waking up to it every morning is a big bonus.

As no ones put a review before and i would of really liked to have known this before i went - i'm gonna say that the toilets and showers were kept really well and the facilities on site are really good. The facilities on site definitely get ***** five stars from me.

I would definitely stay there again and i actually think this campsite is that good, Its pretty under rated compared to bigger campsites.

    Disliked:

Nothing at all. The only thing i would say is that pitching the tent was more difficult than i was used to due to stones in the mud. It is easy to work round but as a pointer if camping maybe bring a few more robust spikes to pitch the tent with.

This is not a negative just merely a pointer for other campers.

    Disliked:

Very hilly site, but it is up the side of a hill! Need to drive for any shop of any kind.

Shower, washing, toileting facilities were nice and clean.
We weren't crammed in close to others so it wasn't noisy.
    Lovely views.
Nice walk into Barmouth but it does take about an hour.

    Disliked:

Couldn't park the car by the tent and had to take equipment up a small bit steep bank to get to the pitch as the previous campers still hadn't left.

Local attractions

The Blue Flag sands at Fairbourne, which can be reached via the estuary path, stretch for more than two miles. There’s safe swimming for families, oodles of rock pools at low tide, and a variety of watersports (Fairbourne is particularly renowned for windsurfing, but all sorts of small craft rumble off its ramp).

Guests can also hop aboard the miniature steam railway here for the short trip to Penrhyn Point, where a dinky passenger ferry runs to the seaside resort of Barmouth.

Walkers will be delighted with the range of rambles in reach: a day exploring the Cadair Idris mountains or the Cregennan Lakes, a bumble to Barmouth featuring a bridge, a bog and a boat, an evening’s meander to the nearby waterfalls at Arthog and Friog, or a wildlife-spotting wander down a former railway line with views of the estuary.

Two-wheelers can get going along the Mawddach Trail which runs from the site, where you can cycle eight miles alongside the edge of the estuary stopping for a picnic as you go, or the stonking Coed-y-Brenin mountain bike paths.

Other nearby tourist attractions include the surreal Italianate village of Portmeirion, underground adventures at King Arthur’s Labyrinth, treetop fun at Go Ape, the Corris Craft Centre, the Talyllyn steam railway and the Centre of Alternative Technology, which has interactive exhibits on renewable energy, organic gardening and the like.
