General

  • Glamping on the edge of Snowdonia National Park
  • Deep in green countryside but with easy access to activities
  • Camp kitchen and firepits included

Cae’r Boncath is a glamping site on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, part of a smallholding among peaceful and green countryside between the mountains and the sea. It's a sheltered and quiet spot in a wildlife haven, named after the buzzards that nest in the adjacent bluebell wood, and with over 50 species of birds spied (so far) around the site and its surroundings.

Although it's deep in countryside for relaxing stays, Cae'r Boncath has easy access to plenty of attractions and activities for those who want to take things up a notch: this is apopular area for walkers, climbers, paddlers and riders, with footpaths, quiet roads and bridleways lead you through scenic countryside and on up into the Snowdonia mountains. The site has secure bike storage as well as shelter and turnout for horses for guests if needed.

Cae'r Boncath's five-metre bell tents are raised on platforms and have a double bed and two single futon mattresses (if required) each. The tents also have their own compost toilets, solar outdoor showers (available in high season), camp kitchens with gas cooker, and firepits for nights under the stars.

When available, free-range eggs and free-range pork (sausages, bacon, chops, belly etc), vegetables and fruit can be bought from the site owners. Freshly baked bread can be ordered for the mornings and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.

I love everything about this place. It was a hidden gem I would say. The owner put so much effort to maintain the place. I am very particular about the toilet and heard so many things that some toilet facilities of some camp wasn't really nice but this place was amazing. Clean and no unplesant smell,Kitchen was well equipped and also inside the tent. Owner prepared everything for you even stuffs for the campfire. You only have to bring your gears, towel, toiletries and food apart from that everything is ready for you.

Scenery was amazing, friendly 3 horses who came and said hello once we arrived and in morning by our camp once we woke up.We prepared pack of carrot and give it to them,My daughter still talked about them until today.

We definitely gonna go back there again, really suitable for families with young children.

I just need to start off by saying how wonderful this place was!

I had made a special request upon booking, I had completely forgot this at first and my request was met and even further.

We were made to feel very welcome upon arrival and our entire area was explained to us so we knew exactly what we had and where it was.

Another review mentioned that you wake up to the sound of cows mooing in the morning and they were not wrong - it was highly amusing

You literally only need to bring yourselves, food, and extra layers if that is what you need to sleep. The tent is beautifully cosy and there is a lovely little stream just behind the tent.

We barely moved from the area for the two nights that we stayed here.

There little kitchen has everything you could need, there is even a little gas cooker in the kitchen so it is really easy to cook any food you have.

There are three horses that live on the site who are extremely friendly, as soon as they smelled out food cooking they would literally trot over to us, make sure you take plenty of carrots and apples with you to feed to them because they are too beautiful!

All in all this place is absolutely wonderful and if you're thinking about booking it, then I would definitely suggest you book ASAP.

I recommended this to a friend and she has already booked it for April 2018!

Really nice welcome, great price for what you get - the bell tent was a really good size and comfy. Good set up for cooking and the toilet was great - really quiet area and we were really spaced away well - we were the only ones staying this particular night but it wouldn't have been an issue at all for noise or disturbing anyone. Nice campfire area and we were also given a big bag of kindling and firewood - very good value for money indeed. Also very good for access to snowdon.

    Disliked:

Weather was not great which wasn't of course any bodies fault, but the wooden floors in the shower area and approaching the toilet were very slippery - could do with some kind of matting for safety.

It was very peaceful place to relax, a little stream behind the tent in the woods. Lovely farm animals. It is very close to local attractions as well. We really enjoyed it. My son really loved the company of the horse living there.

The weather in the night was very cold. But that's just British summer, you can't plan it.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the top bell tent (there are two tents in a single field next to a farmhouse). The bell tent came with a kitchen, compost toilet, firepit, picnic bench and camping chairs, as well as having a comfortable double bed inside. We loved the firepit on the first night for cooking dinner, and the bell tent was spacious enough for two comfortable nights. The location of the tent is around 10 minutes from Llanberis, and 10 from Caernarfon, which makes it perfect for walking up Mount Snowdon (for reference to anyone else wishing to walk over Snowdon, we drove to Llanberis, left our car at Electric Mountain car park, caught the number 88 bus to Caernarfon and changed for the S4 sherpa bus, which took us to the start of the Snowdon Ranger path. We then walked up and over back to Llanberis and collected the car - sidetrack from the review but may be useful to some!)

The field we were staying in had a very friendly horse who said hello most mornings and evenings, and we were far enough from the other tent occupants to feel like we had total privacy. The compost toilet may perhaps put some people of if you don't know what to expect, but it was very well done and you hardly noticed it was a compost toilet! The eggs and pork reference made in the description of the accommodation is very to availability - the hens weren't laying when we stayed and the pork wasn't available. We were also without a shower as the owner was switching over between a solar and gas powered for this particular tent - it should have been installed on the second day but it didn't arrive, so he was courteous enough to provide us with a partial refund for the inconvenience.

Nothing at all - we had a great stay and are going to book again next year, for longer!

Beautiful location, and miles away from main roads, the only thing to wake you up is the cows mooing.
The owner met us happy, even though we arrived late (I text in advance to let her know) it's only 20 min from all the climb points for snowden.
The toilet and shower were basic but great, it all felt very clean.
    Comfortable bed with clean sheets.
(Can't rate the wifi as I did not use it)

    Disliked:

Lighting in the toilet did not work and they need a storage box for toilet roll so it doesn't get damp.
The information about eggs being available is out of date.

From the manager...

Thank you for your kind comments, and thank you for your input about the lighting and the toilet roll. the lighting just needed new batteries and we have taken what you said about a cover for the toilet roll on board. Unfortunately egg supplies vary on a daily basis and we can normally supply eggs every day.
