The location is pretty good for getting to different places ... 22/08/2017

The location is pretty good for getting to different places in Snowdonia, not far to drive in either direction to see beautiful scenery. They offer some really good information in the washing area.

    Disliked:

Everything was quite dirty and the facilities a bit run down. Everything is functional, but the price was similar to campsites offering a little more in the way of facilities, this might just have been a price rise for the summer though.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.
Our amenities block is freshly painted at the beginning of every season and it is all cleaned on a regular basis.
Unfortunately not all campers respect the facilities and it's not possible to repaint half way through the season when the site is busy.
We are happy to come out and deal with any problems arising between cleans if we are told about them.

    Scenery

    Disliked:

Allows dogs but no where to let them off a lead (no dog walk), no bins for dog mess.

Bottom field flooded... We're not talking waterlogged.

    Field torn up from cars.

    Very very few fire pits.

Toilets were also a mess, always possible that this had just happened but it's what I saw.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.
The bottom field has been very wet, although not actually flooded and we have been siting people on the upper field where possible.
We have had the worst August weather here in 15 years and the field being torn up by cars has been aggravated by people driving over the field even when they had been asked not too.
There are 6 fire pits along the river bank and we always have braziers for hire, if you are not camped near a fire pit.
There is a walk around the Wild flower meadows which campers are welcome to use provided owners keep their dogs on the lead and clear up after their dog. This is for the safety of other campers. Dog owners are advised that there is a huge area of woodland and lakes a mile away where dogs can be exercised off lead.
Dog waste should be put in the black bins in the rubbish and recycling area. As the site is fairly small, nowhere on the site is too far to walk to the bins.
Toilets and showers are cleaned regularly and we ask people to let us know if anyone has left them in a mess between cleans and we will deal with it asap

Beautiful location. The local scenery was simply breathtaking, especially areas not accessible by road. We loved the way this site was very small and straightforward, only the basics, everything you need! The fire pit we used was perfect and the wood sold was excellent, much better than other places we have stayed. The people were very friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

The only thing we didn't like was the way the site was right by the road. This made walking straight from the site not really a thing we could do with the kids, though there were loads of local places to drive to.

A nice camp with all facilities.
Great location but you would need to drive to get to the nearest shops
(Or a bus stops next door)
    Lovely views and friendly owners.
    The stream is very nice.

    Disliked:

Its a hard to come off the main road to turn into the campsite as it's a tight bend but there is a sign before turn off so it isn't really a fault, you just need to slow down.
I'm not overly keen on the showers but it is a campsite after all.

Great location, clean facilities, level camping fields, plenty of hot water for the showers.

    Disliked:

The rubbish and recycle area is a disaster zone! If the owners want us to recycle as much as possible then please give us a more organised and cleaner recycling/rubbish area.
The bottom field appears to get boggy when wet and it looked like a couple of vehicles had troubles getting in or out.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you liked our campsite.

With regards to the recycling area, separate marked containers are provided for recycling, food waste and non recyclable waste but some campers just can't be bothered and just dump all their rubbish in black sacks etc in a heap on the floor. It often takes several hours or more each day for us to sort and separate it all and its a nightmare for us. We have even tried giving out sacks for recycling, food waste etc but some people still leave their rubbish all mixed up. It's hard to know what more we can do!

Good campsite for my needs. It worked well as a base of operations, rather than as somewhere to stay long-term (there are no facilities apart from the toilet/shower/washroom). Facilities were clean.

    Disliked:

A little basic. Quite close to main roads, which can be noisy (although this makes it easy to get to where you want to go, so swings and roundabouts...). The tent pitches are on the lower field, which can get quite muddy/soft in rain (and as this is Wales, rain is not unexpected!).

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments.
There are some pitches for tents on the upper field which people can ask to use, particularly if the weather is bad.
We hope that you will visit again

Local attractions

As we say, get ready for slate caverns, an arresting Italianate village, vintage railways, hikes, bike rides and quite a lot more around Llechrwd Riverside Campsite – and the sands of Harlech are within easy driving distance too.

The Vale of Ffestiniog has three of the most visited attractions in north Wales: start off at the head of the valley and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns to take the miners' tramway or head deep into a mine via the funicular railway; explore the Italianate village Portmeirion made famous by telly series The Prisoner; and count yourself in too for a run on the narrow-gauge Ffestiniog Railway, running the length of the valley from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog.

The shops, a leisure centre, a cinema, harbour, maritime museum, golf course, cafés and restaurants of Porthmadog should be investigated once there, before a vintage trip on the Welsh Highland Railway from here to Caernarfon via Beddgelert.

Outdoorsy sorts can try the new downhill bike trails of Antur Stiniog at Llechwedd Slate Caverns; hill walking or climbing at the Moelwyn and Manod mountains; the lower level forest and lake walks at Tan-Y-Bwlch; hiking the four miles of sand at Harlech Beach and the smaller bays at Borth-y-Gest, or tackling as much as poss of the Welsh Coastal Path.

While you’re at Harlech, look out for the theatre, golf course, Harlech Castle and the smaller ruin of Criccieth Castle nearby; if castles are your Welsh holiday thang, those at both Caernarfon and Conwy can be reached within an hour's drive.
