- At the foot of Snowdon
- 300 metres from the start of the Watkin Path
- Set up for guests who enjoy camping but want a little extra comfort
There's quite the Welsh welcome at Bryn Dinas Camping Pods at the foot of Snowdon. ‘Perfect’, ‘amazing’, ‘wonderful’ and ‘brilliant’ are among the many accolades from former guests about this site, including such lavish praise of helpful owner Claire that it’s been known to make the good lady blush.
Location location location first: Bryn Dinas is in the Nant Gwynant valley (and easily reached by car as it’s on the A498), and is a quick skip of 300 metres to the Watkin Path, probably the prettiest path you'll see up to the summit of Snowdon. (Most randomly, the Watkin Path was also where parts of Carry On Up the Khyber were filmed; keep an eye out for the commemorative plaque.)
Pods next: set in mountain woodland, the Bryn Dinas brand new eco-friendly cocoons are designed to keep guests snug, safe, warm and dry, and have several extra touches placed there by Claire and her team, such as hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities, crockery and cutlery. Amenities are covered by the spotless bathroom block steps away from the pods, with two self-contained bathrooms each with toilet, sink and shower.
And for the site itself? More little extra touches are here such as a dedicated storage area for your bike, canoe or kayak; a laundry and a drying room for wet clothes and boots; and a communal area with access to a PC, printer and wifi (for a small charge). There’s also a kitchenette for making snacks, equipped with a fridge, toaster, microwave and sink.
Packed lunches can be requested in advance, while those looking for a pub dinner with style can make their way to the Saracen’s Head a couple of miles away in Beddgelert; there have been some striking accolades about that too.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.

The site is located on the A498, two miles from Beddgelert and 300m past Pont Bethania car park. The Red Dragon Holidays sign makes it easy to spot.
You mightn't normally think that a nice idea on holiday is to go and see the grave of a dead dog, but the legend of medieval hound Gelert might induce a lump in the throat, so yes, you should. Lore has it that the loyal pooch is buried to the south of the scenic mountain village Beddgelert (the name means ‘Gelert’s grave’), and Claire and team have labelled a look at this as a local must-see. As is the village itself to browse around its pubs, shops and restaurants; another good idea is to drop into the award-winning ice cream parlour.
If your boots are made for walking and you want to leave the car behind when looking for a good hike, the Snowdon Sherpa bus runs past the start of the Watkin Path and links the six main routes that go up to the summit, stopping off at Snowdonia’s most popular spots like Porthmadog and Caernarfon. Travellers can buy a day ticket and hop on and off.
For those not tackling the Watkin Path, the Snowdon Mountain Railway does the journey to the summit in style; get on at the station in Llanberis 15 minutes from Bryn Dinas. Trainspotters also have the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Steam Railway to puff along on, which runs through Beddgelert to Porthmadog (one way) or Caernarfon Castle (the other).
Away from Snowdon, it’s about 20 minutes’ drive to the sand and beaches of the Llŷn Penisula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with ancient Bardsey Island just off its coastline. Holidaymakers will also find themselves within easy reach of industrial museums, slate caverns and mines, castles (well, it’s Wales), popular mountain bike paths, old villages and nature reserves.
