  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

no shop or entertainment on site (none within 3 miles) and no lighting

From the manager...

Hi im sorry but we dont advertise anywhere on any advertisements or web sites that we have a shop or entertainment on site of any kind. If you had cared to read the information supplied you could have booked somewhere that that catered for your needs perhaps as well at a greater ex- spence to yourself. We are vetted every year by the AA and Welsh tourist Board who have graded us 4 pennant and 5 stars and to reach this standard we have to have enough facilities for the amount of people using the park. The facilities they have graded us fo is 120 male, and 120 female which is more than adequate. The nearest shop is 2 miles away which is perhaps not ideal but then again i dont see it as a great problem, and i live here, what we do is if we see our selves running out of essentials we collect them on our journeys not to difficult is it. The lighting now then! We think the park as adequately lit, if there were lights everywhere then people would complain that it was not dark enough for them as the lights were shining in their tents, believe me i know, so we have done our best as we always try to but as the saying goes you cant please everyone all of the time. Also if you had cared to read our web site before you came we have on there that it is advisable to bring a torch with you. Please remember when camping you are not in the middle of a floodlit football ground. Time after time we are blamed for things that are out of our control and all because it doesnt suit their way they mark us down through no reason of our own. Please and this goes to all, read the website before booking and this is the same for everything if it is not right for you then book with something that is, dont complain after the event this is not fair to people who work hard to try and make it right for everyone.

Like mentioned before, noise can be a issue. The 11pm cut off for noise isn't enforced or policed with some groups having there drunken antics going on until the early hours, a gamble I guess when camping.
Seemed to be over booked for electric spaces, a neighbor to us booked for a electric space to find there wasn't any. They borrowed ours to get air beds etc inflated!

    - Clean facilities

    Disliked:

The first thing that put us off was the disorganisation. We get told there's the field, find a spot around the outside or go in the middle and come back for a lead. So obviosuly there wasn't a spot on the outside, returning for a lead we were treated like they'd never met us before.

This was annoying but not a trip spoiler. What was however was a very large group of people making a lot of noise. The site policy is no loud noise after 11 but my 6 year old still couldn't get to sleep for it at 11:30 even exhausted and it went on well past 2:30. Someone did come to tell them to turn the music down one night but that was it. These rude people were then up before 8 somehow and then at it again with the loud noise until gone 2 the next morning. When talking to the management about it they implied they were intimidated by the group and nothing more.

I know bad neighbours is always a risk when camping but this was ridiculous, gone 2am.

From the manager...

We understand there was a problem with the large group of people, as you have mentioned they were told to turn their music down when we were aware of the problem. We were unaware of any other issues regarding their music and loud noise until the early hours of the morning, if you had an issue whilst on site we ask people to kindly get in contact at anytime of the day or night with the numbers provided in the office windows and on the invoices that everybody gets, so we can sort it out for you. I would have no issues with going over and telling people to be quiet after 11pm, anybody not adhering to our rules will be asked to leave the park immediately, no exceptions. We have been accused in the past of policing the field too regularly and people have said they find it intimidating. What can I do, I cant win. All I can say is anybody experiencing any problems night or day contact us immediately and it will be resolved, don't go back and air your views on the computer for all to see about things that are out of our control, remember If we don't know we cant act.

Local attractions

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
