General

  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

Site including Shower/Toilet Block very clean.

    Disliked:

Although the rules in the park information state no loud music after 11.00 PM there was a family of two caravans playing loud booming music into the early hours of the morning. Obviously nobody enforcing this on site !!!!.

Facilities were clean and well maintained.

    Disliked:

Pitches crammed very close together. Difficult to maneuver caravan due to lack of space. Didn't appreciate being woken at 9 EVERY morning by either the strimmer, lawn mower or hedge cutter going.

From the manager...

Sorry that you were woken but it is a time in the year when grass and hedges are growing very quickly and we have to work very hard and full days to keep everything in order to allow the park to be kept tidy. Im sure that you were not woken each morning at 9 o,clock as we try to do different areas each day at this time of year so as not to cause to many problems to our visitors. If the park was not clean and tidy as i see you agree by giving us 10 out of 10 then im sure you would have been moaning about that as well. If you dont like the sound of the hedge cutter grass cutter or strimmer then i suggest that you go away in the winter or perhaps book into a hotel.

Loved how tidy the grass pitches were, very well kept which is really good to see. Facilities were spotless, looked as if they had been replaced recently but we actually asked and they're 10 years old so full credit to the owners for keeping everything to a really high standard!

    Disliked:

We didn't dislike anything about the site, the only thing I would say would be that if there was a small shop on site that sold bread, milk etc that would be good but plenty of shops nearby so it's not a nessecity to have an onsite shop.

    Peaceful.

    Disliked:

No seat, nowhere to put toiletries, only one clothes peg in the shower cubicle, one of the showers did have a seat but it was much to high to sit on. Very dusty pitches and drive ways, cars driving past above the 5mph ( which they often did) created what looked like a sand storm and it was a nuisance to keep it out of the motorhome.

Local attractions

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
