General

  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

Cleanliness of facilities, welcome and location. Good place to launch from and explore the area.

    Disliked:

Farm was over the road, so animals made themselves known, but this is the countryside - so, not an big surprise! May pitch the tent a little further away - which is what most people had done (rookie error)

Location was great (15 mins to talacre beach)
Ground was perfect, was lovely and quiet after 11pm even though there was lots of children and dogs camping!
Toilets were clean too and you can even book a half day too :)
    Had a great time!

    Disliked:

We weren’t allowed a fire at night but that’s the rules and it’s a safe one really.
Some people weren’t sticking to the 5mph rules when driving out so it was a bit dusty at times.

I liked the size of the camp. There was plenty of room and the amenities were easy to get to. It looked like no matter where you were on the site you could get to the toilets and laundry within 5 minutes. The communal areas were always clean. It was full of families, so it was never too loud.

The site is very well kept and maintained, the grass and landscaping are immaculate. The family that own the site are nice, helpful and accommodating. Good location to explore this part of North Wales, although you will need to get in the Car. Lovely scenery and plenty of lanes to walk the Dog. Didn't use the WiFi as we have our own, so can't comment on that.

    Disliked:

The showers could benefit from being a little hotter, and there are no private cubicles with sinks, although this may not bother everyone - I love a hot hot shower!

Local attractions

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
