General

  • Peaceful rural park in St Asaph
  • Four miles from the beaches and funfairs of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Excellently-kept amenities and plenty of tourist info on site

Did you know that - thanks to the Diamond Jubilee of good Queen Lilibet - that UK got three brand new cities in 2012? One of the newbies, St Asaph in Denbighshire, is home to just three thousand people if you’re curious about this tiny gem, come to Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, where you’ll be perfectly placed to join in any right royal knees-up that might still be going on in St Asaph, and to visit the classic Welsh coastal resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl.

Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park is a peaceful rural site with well-kept pitches and with amenities kept to high standards by the friendly helpful team. There’s a great range of tourist information available on site to help you make the most of the local area.

You’ll find a handful of shops, including a convenience store, butcher and chemist in the nearby village of Dyserth (don’t miss out on a stop at the stunning Dyserth waterfalls while you’re there).

We booked this site in July 17 manly because of the great reviews it had.Arrived on Monday 11th Sept at about 3pm weather was very windy and raining so wanted to get setup asap.got booked in quickly by a polite and friendly lady who asked us if we had an awning,we said yes,she said ok and gave us our pitch no: which was 65,and showed us to it,the site is very well maintained and clean, and set out fairly well, toilet block is very clean and modern. The site is great for touring round north Wales if that's what you intend to do, so would rate the site for us as 5 stars.

    Disliked:

What made this site a no no for us was because when we booked this site we booked and paid for a serviced pitch and awning, when we were shown our pitch it was a single unit hard standing pitch with service, no room for an awning, in fact the young lady who took us to the pitch told us to put our caravan half on and half off the pitch if we wanted to put up our awning,we really don't understand why we were given this pitch because it was not what we booked and was not what was on the booking form we have got which was obviously not looked at when the pitch was allocated, we also asked to be near as possible to the toilet block which was also on the booking form.
All I can say is if you book this site make sure when you get there you are given what you book. also wifi is really expensive and the space between where we had our pitch was not the legal limit as per safety standard.

We were welcomed by a lovely lady who directed us to our pitch. The facilities were excellent and clean, I also liked that they were warmer than the outside. There were other facilities on site which we did not use such as the dryer.

Although the site is primarily for caravans we were pleased to see other tents.

The area is amazing and perfect for walking, although the nearest pub we found was about a 40 minute walk away.

A really beautiful site with stunning views. Everyone on the site was really friendly and the kids loved running and playing. We didn't have much interaction with the staff but when we did they were friendly and very helpful. We will definitely be returning here as soon as possible and I really cant sing the praises enough of this campsite

    Disliked:

My only criticism if the WiFi charge. Whilst I am happy to pay for internet as I understand the costs implied in setting up I think it is archaic to charge by the amount of Data you use and the need to open an account with a third party. I Would be more than happy to pay £10 for my visit to receive unlimited wifi which I believe would be a fair price.

I understand this is my personal choice and it would normally stop me from visiting again however the site was so great and the location so perfect this falls significantly down the priority list.

For families, the safe sandy beaches, funfairs and plentiful tourist attractions of Rhyl and Prestatyn - just four miles away - will no doubt be top of the list. The attractive seaside resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay are also within an easy drive.

Fishing fans can try the trout farm ten minutes up the road from Penisar Mynydd Caravan Park, or head into St Asaph to fish the River Elwy; walkers can saunter through a superb selection of scenery, including nearby Offa’s Dyke, or drive to Snowdonia National Park and hike the mountains and lakes; and golfers will also find that this area suits them to a tee, with a huge choice of courses including Caerwys, Meliden, Rhuddlan, Rhyl, Holywell and Prestatyn.

Other top picks for sightseeing include the village of Betws-Y-Coed and the neighbouring Swallow Falls; the imposing remains of Rhuddlan Castle; and seventeenth century Bodrhyddan Hall, where a 3,000-year-old mummy lurks among the armour and period furniture...
