  • Five-acre family-friendly site overlooking the vale of Llangollen
  • Five-minute drive to Llangollen town and 40 to Snowdonia National Park
  • Restaurant, bar and playground on site
Seeking a scenic setting close to the countryside for dawdles around Denbighshire…? Then set your sights on a stay at Abbey Grange Campsite, on a five-acre site in front of The Abbey Grange Hotel and overlooking the pretty Vale of Llangollen. Surrounded by fields and mountains, this park is half a mile from the well-known Horseshoe Pass and is a convenient base for exploring the immediate hilly surrounds or taking on treks in Snowdonia National Park (a 40-minute drive). Chances to climb, cycle, mountain bike, fish and golf are also around the local area – just ask on site for the lowdown. At the park, charging facilities are on hand for ensuring your GPS has enough batteries for when you’re out and about exploring the region, whether shopping in Llangollen, five minutes’ drive away, for food to bring back and grill up on the barbecue or ambling to the Cistercian Valley Crucis Abbey (less than a 10-minute walk). On your homecoming from hikes or other similarly energetic activities, hotel facilities such as the restaurant and bar are accessible for cosying up with a pint or a meal, and there's an outdoor play area to keep the kids busy. The site has male and female shower and toilet amenities, plus chemical disposal facilities.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Sorry to say there was nothing we liked about this campsite.

Disliked: We found the campsite to be very untidy, there were glass beer bottles and other rubbish in the children’s play area. The toilets were unbelievable dirty, we didn’t feel we could have a shower as it was so disgusting. Guests of the park were playing very loud music way past the curfew which was 10pm. One party of guests played music and were extremely loud past 3am!! Nothing was done about this, our young children were subjected to this and so found it hard to sleep. The language used by a large percentage of the camps demographic was awful, certainly not fit for children’s ears. Again nothing was done about this behaviour. Despite the warning on the welcome leaflet, claiming a firm “no tolerance” of such behaviours, this was a nonsensical statement as it appeared anything goes at this campsite. Sadly we would never go back and can’t believe we paid money to stay there.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Nothing whatsoever is likeable about this site.

Disliked: No where near enough toilets for the amount of tents these fields hold. When I booked the advice was dogs must be kept on leads, which we did but dogs that where running all over the pitch frequently came up to our tent to urinate on the tent, windbreak, and chairs. Loud music the likes of the sounds you would hear in a rave was played until the early hours. Our pitch was on a slope but could not move to the flatter part of the field because the people that were already there wanted to keep the space for themselves. We found out later the spaces were filled with vans. This was my granddaughters first camping trip she is adamant she will never go again. We paid for three nights and stayed for only one. There was no play area but did not stop people from playing football with there own goal posts. These balls rained down from a great height onto the tents or heads.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Llangollen

Disliked: Site. Very dirty and worn facilities. Only 4 showers for the whole site, 2 of which had broken temperature handles so could not alter temperature, cold!. Over flowing bins and rubbish left next to track into camp as there was not enough bins either. Rude and aggressive staff/owner. On the day we left we were nearly finished packing up when we were approached by who I think was the lady owner? I cant be sure as she did not introduce herself. The lady simply approached from other side of a fence and began shouting at our eldest daughter. You should be gone, hurry up and get off! It is clearly marked on the info we were given that it was 12.00. However the lady insisted it was 11.00 we had to be gone for and refused to look at the information her check in desk had given us. After a minute or so trying to explain we were told 12 and we were pretty much done anyway she turned her back on me muttering that we should shut up and get a move on! I replied, "excuse me! who do you think your talking to? No wonder you have so many terrible reviews!" She said "yeah, yeah, whatever, they never come back an we do alright!" DO NOT STAY HERE

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: I had booked by accident no electric for both our caravan and motorhome...the owner came out and gave us an electric pitch which he did not have to do.

Disliked: Very basic, toilets dirty, bar very small with overpriced food, hence we didn't eat there as a family of 11. Field for camping is extremely steep, it says caravans and motorhomes welcome but no chance setting up there! Showers had nests of spiders...we came home a day early.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The park, micro brewery shop and pub with access to takeaway hot food were perfect additions to our kids (hence our) overall happiness. The facilities were great and the location was perfect for Llangollen exploring. I’d say care has been given to give the place a scenic feel (trellis barriers to shower block and covered pub porch) which I especially loved.
