General
- Luxury stargazing bell tents in a private woodland alongside the river
- A 25-minute walk from a steam railway, past pubs and shops
- Wild swimming and fly fishing on site; private forest kitchen provided
Budding stargazers, gather around… by day, the bell tents at Eithinog Hall are showered in natural light from the 360-degree, transparent roof canopy and in the evening, you’ll be poised to count the constellations and drift off underneath the stars. This is all from the comfort of a luxury six-metre bell tent furnished for your comfort, which includes a kingsize bed, a cosy woodburning stove and a chest of drawers.
This family-friendly site is well-versed in the art of de-stressing. The bell tents are in private woodlands above the banks of the river Banwy, where you’re welcome to go wild swimming, relax under the trees or line up ready for game fly fishing. The site has a two-mile stretch of water, including deep pools and fast, challenging runs. There’s a good head of wild brown trout, the occasional late-run salmon and grayling (the lady of the stream).
In spring, the woodlands break out with bluebells, wild wood anemones and birdsong. Shortly after, wild garlic and blackberries follow. There’s always plenty of plant life and wildlife, so look out for owls, woodpeckers, red kites, buzzards, herons, kingfishers, dippers and otters (to name but a few of the animals around).
No luxuries need to be scarified for your escape at this wildlife haven. Each bell tent has its own private shower shack with hot water, a composting loo and a forest kitchen where you're free to rustle up a bite to eat. Out on the wooden decking, there’s outdoor furniture with views over the river, as well as a firepit (for cradling your preferred potion in front of the hot embers at dusk, perhaps?)
When you’re ready to venture out from your rural retreat in Mid Wales, hike through the woods or over the local hills. There are woodland and countryside walks from your tent. The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway is also 25 minutes’ walk away, and there are shops and pubs on the way (15 minutes’ walk to be precise).

Local attractions
Wales has earned a reputation for impressive castles, and that includes Powis Castle (20 minutes’ drive), Dolforwyn Castle (25 minutes) and Montgomery Castle (25 minutes). Powis Castle, a grand fortress built by a Welsh princess, has a museum with Far East artefacts and huge gardens, while Dolforwyn Castle and Montgomery Castle have crumbled into ruins that are excellent for exploring.
Perhaps you’d like to sip your way around the vines at Kerry Vale Vineyard (30 minutes). Otherwise, head onto Lake Vyrnwy (35 minutes) for higher-energy activities such as clay shooting, hikes or bike rides. Those of you who’d like to track down the sea and sand can track down Aberdyfi Beach (an hour and five minutes).
