Brynawelon Caravan and Camping Park: -

General

  • Quiet site two miles from Penbryn beach
  • Ten-minute drive from the Wales Coastal Path
  • Pitches with views of the sea

Want to feel the sand between your toes without finding it in every nook and cranny later on? Brynawelon Caravan and Camping Park, half a mile from the village of Sarnau in west Wales, is the best of both worlds. While away the day on Penbryn beach, two miles away, then return to the blessedly sand-free site.

Brynawelon is well placed for exploring the Ceridigion countryside and the Welsh coast: walkers can join the Wales Coastal Path, which passes Penbryn beach and spans the length of the Ceridigion coastline and beyond, or follow trails and loops around Cardigan, 20 minutes' drive away. For a more urban experience, stop off in the town of Cardigan where there's plenty to do, like visiting the medieval Cilgerran Castle or shopping at the Guildhall Market.

When you want to spend time on the sand, Penbryn isn’t your only option – Aberport, Tresaith and Llangranog beaches are all within 10 minutes’ drive, and are top spots for swimming and surfing.

Brynawelon is in a quiet coastal area, but you don’t have to feel stranded. In Sarnau, less than 10 minutes’ walk from the site, you can stock up on camping gear at the army surplus store or call in to the farm shop to pick up some Welsh delicacies. For any other essentials, a quick trip to Brynhoffnant village one mile away should take care of everything.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 07/01/2022.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Absolutely loved the fully serviced level pitches. Loved the distant sea views and spectacular sunsets. The facilities on site are immaculate with a personal first to see dishwashers available! The shower/toilet block is also immaculate. There is a lovely 'library' with lots of books, games and dvd's available to borrow with no charge, a very nice touch. The couple who own and run the site keep a tight ship, but are very pleasant and charming with it.

    Disliked:

Speaking as a couple getting on in years, we could have done with a handrail on the steps up to the shower block and the showers are extremely hot, in fact too hot for my delicate husband! And I would imagine they are too hot for children as you can't adjust the temperature at all. However it feels churlish to complain, as it really is a lovely site.

The peaceful relaxed atmosphere . Facilities (washing machine/tumble dryer/dishwasher) were excellent if staying longer (though not used by us) . The sea view. Karen is a wonderful owner, nothing was too much trouble. Good bus service along Cardigan Bay. Thanks to our little electric moped we got to beautiful beaches that we could not have reached otherwise .

Better quality loo roll would be the only way to improve this site.

We are a family of four and visit this area regularly. We choose this site for its location and its fully serviced Touring Pitches. As the site is newly renovated it isn’t viewable on Google Earth, which is how we usually stake out areas and sites before visiting – to check the access to and from sites and the site layout. On approach to the site, the entrance looked quite tight, however, it was nice and easy to turn in. We have a very large 4x4 and twin axle caravan and we had no problems pulling in and out of site.

On arrival, the site was very well presented, with brightly coloured buildings and stones, which our children really liked. We were greeted by the site owners, who were so friendly and helpful. We arrived at our fully serviced pitch and found it was very large and perfect for our needs. The pitches are very nicely spread out, so you’re not on top of each other, unlike some other sites in the area. In the area we stayed in, the pitches are arranged in a ring across from a large, grassed area. This was perfect for the family to play on, and our girls spent most of their time on the grassed area playing games and meeting other people.

The facilities on site are very clean and well looked after. No matter where you are on site they are only a short walk away. The reception on site also has a small shop, selling ice cream and alcohol (perfect!).

For those who love your tech, the site has very good 4G coverage by mobile phone networks (we have 3 and EE) and we had no problem streaming Netflix on 3 devices. Please confirm the coverage in the area with your own mobile phone network provider beforehand, as this isn’t provided by the site.

I would recommend this site to all and especially if you have children. The owners are fantastic and are based on site, which made us feel more relaxed and safer. We will be returning later in the year and this site will be one of our regular return locations.

THe owners were a genuinely lovely couple, helpful and very friendly. We had a problem with our vehicle and Karen was quick to recommend a local garage, supplying telephone details within minutes. The site is clean and very neat & tidy. The little shop on site also very useful. The Shower/toilet block immaculate. They are working hard to improve the site all the time. We look forward to staying again soon.

No Wi-fi ~ for us not so much of a problem but guess if you had children/teens might be.

Local attractions

If you want history with a twist, pay a visit to one of the unusual museums in the area. At the Internal Fire museum, less than five minutes away by car, see one of the oldest working diesel engines in the world. Follow the flock to the National Wool Museum and see the story of wool from fleece to fabric or embrace your inner child at the Museum of Childhood, both 20 minutes from Brynawelon.

Experience a statelier time and take in the views of the Ceridigion countryside with a trip on one of the steam trains at Gwili Railway, Teifi Valley Railway or the Vale of Rheidol Railway, all within 45 minutes of the site.

When the kids get tired of steam trains and toys (how could they, you ask…), bring them to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, where they can get up close with friendly farm animals and try to spot dolphins, seals and skylarks in the nature reserve.

For an even sweeter experience, buzz on over to the Honey Farm in New Quay – 10 miles from Brynawelon – where you can visit the meadery, see the bees at work and have a seat in the tearoom to taste the end result. Buy honey, mead and beeswax products in the farm shop before you leave.
