Bonnybridge Eco Camping and Glamping: Eco-pod office and shop

General

  • Off-grid wildlife haven five minutes' drive from a nature reserve
  • A 10-minute drive from Falkirk, 30 from Glasgow and 55 from Edinburgh
  • Croquet, lacrosse, badminton, bike hire and free-range egg sales

Fancy a bonnie old time in bonnie Scotland? Make haste for Bonnybridge Eco Camping and Glamping, a family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Falkirk.

Eco-conscious guests can rest assured their carbon footprints are minimal at this site on a family-run livery yard. But don’t think that off-grid means basic – the site runs on solar panels and wind turbines, so there's no need to wave goodbye to tech for stays, and there’s rainwater harvesting for showers and washing up (plus a drinking fountain to help you stay hydrated).

For even more eco-conscious hols, minimising car journeys by spending loads of time on site is easily possible too. As well as a large playing field for family kickabouts, there are croquet sets, badminton racquets, lacrosse sticks and giant dominoes to be trotted out for some friendly competition, and nature fixes can be had by meeting the friendly resident Shetland ponies or by wandering the fields (keeping a lookout for newts, toads, butterflies, pheasants and deer).

When it comes time to satisfy hungers, there’s a small shop selling free-range eggs and basic essentials in the office eco pod, and the shops of Bonnybridge village are a 10-minute pedal away (bike hire is on site). If a break from self-catering is needed, make the trip into Falkirk (10 minutes’ drive or a 25-minute cycle) to try out some of the restaurants or cafés.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We arrived and the woman was very helpful, explained everything including the quiet time hours and the time the toilets were shut for a deep clean. Both me and my friend were surprised by how big the bell tent was inside. The views are incredible and we were provided with a picnic bench and fire pit next to our tent. It is the perfect location for a mini break to chill out and is only a 10 minute drive into Falkirk if you wanted to do a day trip. In the surrounding area of the tents there are some beautiful horses and also chickens who wander about but don’t bother anyone. Toilet and shower facilities are kept very clean and are very close to all tents, no need to walk far at night etc. The car park is also a 2 minute walk from the tent pitches. Cannot fault this place and will definitely be back again.

We stayed one night at this campsite with 4 adults and 4 children (13, 10, 8 & 4)

Very well maintained, clean site and the owner and staff could not have been any friendlier - nothing seemed to be a problem or imposition.

The children loved the freedom to run around and they even got the chance to feed the horses and chickens to which they were delighted.

There was plenty of space between the pitches and although the site was busy - there was still loads of room for everyone to enjoy.

We felt safe and relaxed throughout our stay - highly recommened.

My son (13) was a little disappointed there was no WIFI but I found that rather liberating - it was nice to see him without his face in a screen!

The wardens at the campsite were so kind and accommodating to us. The site is just lovely, so quiet and sitting up on a hill over looking the scenery. I had never camped before in my life, and this was the best campsite to have that experience in. The bathrooms are impeccably clean and tidy. Our fire pit was lovely and warm. I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and warm sunshine. Parking was close by and I was able to drive by car up to my tent pitch and unload all my goodies. Thank you so much Bonnybridge Eco Camping for the pleasant and unforgettable experience!

Nice weekend at Bonnybridge. The couple who run the campsite are really chatty and helpful. The fire stoves are perfect for cooking on. Nice views north across the valley to Stirling, with some dramatic cloud formations. Horses in the fields nearby, and 2 friendly campsite cats. 🐈 🐈‍⬛ And picnic tables too :) Quite a small site, so not too busy.

It was well spaced out with just the right amount of privacy from other campers, the site it’s self was lovely clean. ( kinds are begging to go back )

Small but perfectly formed. Space in a field for kids to run off steam, and owners let the kids feed the horses and chickena which they were delighted with. The washing up area small but kept very clean. Only 2 showers and 4 toilets but again very clean.
Small tesco 5mins drive away and close to other attractions suitable for a day trip e.g. Falkirk wheel or the kelpies/helix park

Local attractions

There’s lots to do nearby if time in nature is a draw, starting with Bonnyfield Nature Reserve, a little over five minutes’ drive from the site for bikes and wanders. Not satisfying outdoorsy cravings? Leisurely wanders – and distractions for little kids – await in the lovely Dollar Park gardens, 10 minutes away.

Animal fans can get up close and personal with exotic reptiles, bugs and mammals at ZooLab Jungle Rooms, 15 minutes from base, and there are bigger experiences close by too – Blair Drummond Safari Park, Deep Sea World and Briarlands Farm are all less than 40 minutes from the site.

Digging around the past is as simple as one would expect from a country famed for its castles too… The spectacular Callendar House (a 19th-century mansion built in the French Renaissance style) is 15 minutes away, and the Dunmore Pineapple and the historic re-enactments at Duncarron Medieval Village are both within half an hour.

For more modern icons of Scotland, there’s the Falkirk Wheel (five minutes) and the spectacular Kelpies (20 minutes) – otherwise blend past and present with explores of museums, galleries, castles and science centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh (30 minutes and 55 minutes away respectively).

Must see

  • Royal Burgh of Stirling Visitor Centre (9.7 miles)
  • Stirling Castle (10.3 miles)
