What a romantic spot… and you get it all to yourself. If you’re looking for a cosy couples’ hideaway around Glasgow, this could well be the place for you. Craigmarloch Lodge is a luxurious and totally self-contained studio set in the grounds of a family home in the village of Blanefield, Stirlingshire, with a private entrance and dedicated parking.
Crafted from wood, the studio is as stylish inside as it is out – with a kingsize bed and plenty of storage in the sleeping area, and a small fridge and microwave in the kitchenette for whipping up simple meals. There’s a powerful shower in the separate bathroom – and – best of all, a hot tub built for two on the private decking outside.
Thoughtful extras include a hairdryer to keep you looking your best, free parking and a TV for chillout days. Unusually for a glamping lodge of this high finish and design, dogs are welcome, but please keep them off the furniture.
If you’re in need of a quick break from everyday life, there’s a bus service from both Glasgow and Stirling to Blanefield, while trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh arrive in Milngavie (10 minutes’ drive). The studio is also only around 10 minutes’ walk from local shops, a café and pub if you fancy a change of scenery.

Local attractions
If you can tear yourself away from your luxurious little abode, you’re in pole position for touring the museums, art galleries and art nouveau tea rooms of Glasgow (25 minutes’ drive), or driving a bit further for a nose around the elegant shops, Georgian-era New Town and cragtop castle in Edinburgh (an hour).
For country days out, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park (20 minutes) is just begging to be explored. Keen on watersports? Head for Luss Pier (45 minutes) on the side of the loch, where you can go paddleboarding and banana boating. Fancy a long-distance yomp? Access the West Highland Way at Drymen (20 minutes) for scenic hiking across glens and heather-covered foothills.
If you’d rather leave the car parked up, there’s plenty to see closer to home. Stroll to the extensive castle ruins in Mugdock Park (40 minutes’ walk), the spectacular granite rock formations at Auld Wives Lifts (10 minutes) or the dramatic waterfall at Blairskaith Linn (an hour and a quarter).
