  • Dog-friendly site on the West Highland Way walking route
  • A 15-minute drive from Loch Lomond; walk to the Devil’s Pulpit
  • Walk into to Drymen village for pubs, a shop and the Rob Roy Way
Looking to Loch Lomond as your next big destination? Drymen Camping has been welcoming adventurous folk for over 30 years – and with the dog-friendly seasonal site as your base too, you’ll be next in line for hikes of all kinds, whisky sampling, days on the loch and all the other splendid stuff that happens in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Drymen Camping is 15 minutes’ drive away from Loch Lomond and it’s directly on the West Highland Way route, which heads northwards past Balmaha, Conic Hill and an ancient oak woodland. If you’re working your way along the trail, staff on site can sign you up for a baggage transfer when you arrive (that’s if you haven’t already sorted your own). Hiking’s really something special around here. The 77-mile Rob Roy Way, which traces the route taken by a Scottish folk figure from the 18th century, weaves through the village of Drymen 25 minutes’ walk away. Grab a little something to eat or drink from the village pubs, restaurants, café or shop before setting off, perhaps. As for cyclists, The John Muir Way, a coast-to-coast cycle path, is a short drive away. The site’s also directly on the National Cycle Route 7, which forms part of the route from Land’s End to John O’Groats. If you need to shower off after all of that pedalling or rambling, there are hot walk-in showers on site, along with facilities like toilets, mobile charging points and a sheltered communal area for food prep and meeting like-minded folk.

LandPod camping pod (four person)

Liked: Booked the LandPod for a birthday, staff were lovely leaving a birthday card and small gift in the pod for us. Was cold the night we stayed so the staff left some spare bedding and pillows in the pod but was warm enough within the pod. Pod itself was really cool, beds were comfy and facilities were a short walk away and were in immaculate condition. Would stay again!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch (family, large)

Liked: Small campsite great location. Lots of facilities. Picnic table at pitch was nice to sit at and enjoy the views. Allocated pitches so you don’t lose pitch after going out in your van. Dog friendly.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (four person, small)

Liked: Beautiful views, peaceful, quiet. Great drying barn and multiple showers and toilets. Basic but clean and what you need. Small shop with no perishables. Stunning surroundings. Great little village of Drymen nearby. Nice cafe and bars. Great breakfast at ‘skootch’ and think it was called!

Disliked: Couldn’t drive on to field to pitch tent, this is more for one night stays (hikers). We came for 5 nights, so had lots of gear to carry from car park to field. Took many trips! Nice that chickens roam free range- but a bit of a wind up for a dog on a lead!

Local attractions

The lovely Loch Lomond has a mightily tempting set of places to visit, whether it’s Balloch’s (15 minutes’ drive), country park, bird of prey centre and Maid of the Loch steamer boat or the ultra-scenic Conic Hill (20 minutes) and Ben Lomond (20 minutes). Where else to go walking? Perhaps Queen's View & The Whangie (20 minutes) for views of Loch Lomond, the village of Killearn (20 minutes), or the conifers of Garadhban Forest (15 minutes)? The Devil’s Pulpit (55 minutes’ walk or 20 minutes’ drive), which featured in Outlander, is a gorgeous wild swimming spot with a 100-foot-deep sandstone gorge, river and a stretch to tackle named Devil’s Steps. After braving the slippery tracks, it might be time to indulge in a little Scottish whisky. Founded in 1833, the Glengoyne Distillery (20 minutes’ drive) runs sampling experiences.
