General

  • 50-acre site in the grounds of a Georgian mansion
  • Spectacular views towards the Vendlaw Hills
  • Bar and restaurant, TV room and food shop

Peeps – and pooches – you should come to Peebles. As it's a sure bet you'll find something to feast your peepholes on round these parts, whether that’s the 50 miles of mountain bike trails at Glentress Forest, piles of lovely wares in town – Peebles was named Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland – or the artsy attractions and several festivals.

Nearby River Tweed is internationally famous for salmon fishing too: the Peebles town motto and crest even has three salmon a-leaping up the water. All in all, rather fab.

Right on the edge of Peebles to also feast your eyes on is Rosetta Holiday Park too, an attentively manicured family and dog-friendly site set over 50 acres with spectacular views towards the Vendlaw Hills.

The park is in grounds surrounding a Georgian mansion and includes an old stable block converted into the Hayloft Bar and Restaurant which dishes up home-cooked meals (during the busy season only) and free evening entertainment including karaoke (weekends only). The stables building also has a TV room with a few games to keep the family occupied.

Outdoors, there’s a playground for the kids to swing, slide and climb around; additional facilities include a food shop, a launderette and a handy café in the bar area.

(Please note that food is no longer served from the end of September and that the bar is closed on weekdays. Entertainment is minimal outside high season.)

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Please note that after 29/09 the Hayloft bar and restaurant is open on weekends only and does not serve food. The entertainment programme after this time is also minimal.

Good facilities, nice, leafy setting with views over the valley ... 25/05/2018

Good facilities, nice, leafy setting with views over the valley and easy walk to town. Handy bar on site. Probably really lovely if you’re in a caravan or lodge.

    Disliked:

Tent pitches are very close together given the vast size of the park overall. Didn’t seem to be much guidance for parking so vehicles all over the place. Surprised that the park let people get a taxi right up to their tents into the wee small hours. Having your kids woken by a diesel engine and headlights just a few feet from their heads several times a night is not great fun. Noise in general was a problem, including people leaving the park’s own bar which is something you’d hope they could deal with.

No wi-if, bar was closed even though it was toward the end of May. Toilet and showers were clean but very tired looking, no plugs in washbasins. Bins in the area we were at were overflowing when we arrived and still the same after two days.

Size of the campsite and touring pitch area - loads of space. Grounds are lovely and well looked after. Staff friendly. Only a few minutes walk to town centre so lots of amenities to hand. Lovely wee courtyard where the onsite bar/restaurant is.

    Disliked:

Shower and toilet blocks were clean enough inside but could do with a wee bit of upgrade (some heat in the shower rooms) and repairs (toilet flushes and cistern lids). And the external glass roof cleaned - the bird poo is a wee bit off putting.

The holiday park was clean, quiet and friendly. We travelled as two families with 6 young children who were able to run free and we did not have to worry. The toilets and showers were clean and most importantly very cosy. Its nice to have a hot cosy shower at campsites.

Nice open camping spaces with easy access, close walking distance to nearest town of peebles, plenty of restaurants & bars if you want to mix it up a little.

    Disliked:

No set opening or closing time for bar/restaurant as it's based on how busy the bar is. Tent Pitch was not level but we managed ok. Kids play park needs some tlc as it could be muth better. Wifi did not work but we was not there for that.

Staff were really welcoming & helpful on arrival, pointing us in the direction of the tent pitches which might be a bit quieter as it was a bank holiday weekend. Toilet & shower blocks were clean & there was plenty of them around the site. Also loved the location, close enough to walk into Peebles but in a quiet area.

Local attractions

One of the many highlights of the Scottish Borders is that, while the region is rightly popular with savvy holidaymakers, it remains off the mass tourist track so you can gleefully pursue your pastimes without areas becoming overcrowded.

Fishing is one of the most popular pursuits in the area is because of Peebles’s proximity to the River Tweed, on the top scale of salmon fishing rivers in the world. Go out on your own with your rod license or bag a trip/course from one of the many local angling centres nearby; the Tweed and its tributaries yield wild trout and grayling too. Elsewhere in the area, anglers have acres of lochs for coarse fishing and the Berwickshire coast nearby for sea angling – and views – off Eyemouth, Burmouth and St Abbs.

The mountain bike trails of Glentress Forest three miles away is another big draw for active visitors – the Tweed Bike Festival is held here in May and June and Glentress/Innerleithen are part of the world famous 7stanes mountain biking trails. The award-winning centre at Glentress has trails of all grades and a most modern visitor centre with bike wash, bike hire and a bike shop.

The Tweed Love Bike Festival is held at Peebles in early summer, but if you miss it/aren’t a mountain biker, several other festivals cover several other tastes such as arts, jazz, food (nom), Highlands Games, the Rugby Sevens and the traditional week-long Beltane Festival.

Dramatic highlights like shows at the Eastgate can be had at any time of the year, as can sampling fresh local produce in the town’s hotels and restaurants (nom again), park and river walks by the Tweed and the prerequisite till-ringing at the Old Town and School Brae.

As well as Peebles, the Borders has plenty of other characterful towns to seek out such as Selkirk, Jedburgh, Galashiels and the Borders’s biggest town Hawick; those looking for even brighter lights can make their way to Edinburgh, just 20 miles away.

Must see

  • Royal Scottish Academy (19.7 miles)
