General

  • 50-acre site in the grounds of a Georgian mansion
  • Spectacular views towards the Vendlaw Hills
  • Bar and restaurant, TV room and food shop

Peeps – and pooches – you should come to Peebles. As it's a sure bet you'll find something to feast your peepholes on round these parts, whether that’s the 50 miles of mountain bike trails at Glentress Forest, piles of lovely wares in town – Peebles was named Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland – or the artsy attractions and several festivals.

Nearby River Tweed is internationally famous for salmon fishing too: the Peebles town motto and crest even has three salmon a-leaping up the water. All in all, rather fab.

Right on the edge of Peebles to also feast your eyes on is Rosetta Holiday Park too, an attentively manicured family and dog-friendly site set over 50 acres with spectacular views towards the Vendlaw Hills.

The park is in grounds surrounding a Georgian mansion and includes an old stable block converted into the Hayloft Bar and Restaurant which dishes up home-cooked meals (during the busy season only) and free evening entertainment including karaoke (weekends only). The stables building also has a TV room with a few games to keep the family occupied.

Outdoors, there’s a playground for the kids to swing, slide and climb around; additional facilities include a food shop, a launderette and a handy café in the bar area.

(Please note that food is no longer served from the end of September and that the bar is closed on weekdays. Entertainment is minimal outside high season.)

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Please note that after 29/09 the Hayloft bar and restaurant is open on weekends only and does not serve food. The entertainment programme after this time is also minimal.

The park was quiet and the grounds were kept clean and tidy

    Disliked:

The electrics were outdated and some where knocked over. The pitches could do to be updated. The toilets need to be cleaned more often as the males was very smelly and the shower drain was full of dirt and grass. Expected more for the price you pay. They should lower the price to reflect on what you get .not sure if I would go back again which is a shame as it is a lovely area and park was quiet .

The park was very large. Set in a lovely setting within woods. The park was very clean. The park was very close to Peebles town centre and local shops/supermarkets. Great toilet and shower facilities.

    Disliked:

The grass in the kids play park area was extremely long. My boys couldn't play football in it. The breakfast bar was not open any morning we were there. The restaurant was only open one evening we were there. The staff wondered around the park smoking cigarettes.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are glad to see you enjoyed the size of the park and the cleanliness.
We are lucky to be within walking distance of the town centre.
We appreciate while you were on site the grass in the kids play area was very long and was cut on the Monday afternoon unfortunately after you left.
Our staff do go out of their way to accommodate everyone and had it been mentioned would have been cut straight away so the kids could make use of the grass area.
Breakfast is only on at weekends while the park is very quiet but would have been on on the Sunday until roughly 10.30am and the bar meals in the evening would have been on on Saturday until 8pm.
We do have a small team of staff who spend most of their time on park so although you see familiar faces the staff do smoke in the courtyard when they are off duty and breaks while working.
Again thank you for taking the time to leave a review and we hope you are happy with the response to the issues raised.

    Disliked:

showers were very poor. Just as well the site wasn't busy as only 1 shower in ladies. The "better" showers were up a hill so we would have had to take the motorhome to them. Defeats the purpose really. Site is too far away from shops to walk to. Went to the courtyard on Sunday afternoon bar wasn't open and the place was deserted

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your stay and didn't like anything.
We appreciate the showers in the touring areas aren't the best so we do let all guests know the ones in the courtyard have better pressure. All the blocks have 4 showers, 2 in the ladies and 2 in the mens, sorry you missed the other one.
We do tell all guests the bar is open at 4pm on arrival and our opening times are on the door to let everyone know when the bar will be open and closed.
We also want to apologise you felt the park was too far from the shops, we are a 10/15 minute walk to the town centre and have a Tesco and Premier half the distance from the high street. There are taxi services we could of arranged for you should you have popped into the office we would have called them. Again we thank you for taking the time to leave a review and hope you are happy with our response to the points raised.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are happy to hear you found our staff to be helpful and found the facilities to be clean.
We are lucky to have big tent pitches and great views!
Unfortunately the park doesn't have a complex but we do have a small bar for guests and locals to make use of, we try to accommodate everyone and want all guests including the kids to enjoy themselves so please if you visit again pop in to reception and we can organise something eg arts and crafts for the kids to enjoy. We also have the walled garden area with the climbing frame and swings and large grass area for the children to use we hope you didn't miss that.
Again thank you for taking the time to leave a review and we hope to see you again.

Spent 2 weeks at this site with our 3 grandchildren in July/August 2014. Was very reasonably priced. Unfortunately it rained everyday which didn't spoil it for any of us as the tent held up well and the sites drainage coped extremely well. Toilets/shower blocks were kept clean and the site was well kept with very spacious pitches and included ehu. The site had a small bar on site offering meals and occasional entertainment on weekends, there was also a small games room and park for the children to use. The site was within walking distance to Peebles town centre offering many shops and pubs and restaurants. kids enjoyed days at the local swimming pool and park so we were never short of things to do or places to visit. We liked the location and also visited Edinburgh and other towns that were near by during our stay. Enjoyable stay had by all.

    Disliked:

Only The weather but cant blame the site for that

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We apologise you didn't get the best weather for your holiday but you seem to have enjoyed it regardless. We are lucky to be so close to the town centre and just 5 minutes away from the local swimming pool and park. We hope to see you again. Many thanks

Thank you for your review.
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday and the cleanliness of the shower block.
Unfortunately as you visited us in June at the time of the Beltane Festival we didn't have a cabaret act on in the bar that weekend. Please don't hesitate to call the office and ask when we have entertainment on so we can book you in for this. We also have bingo, karaoke and quiz nights on when there is no cabaret acts booked. Thank you for the review.
We are glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday and found our staff to be helpful.
We are lucky to be so close to town so guests can enjoy Peebles as well as the park itself.
We appreciate the shower pressure on the touring area isn't the best, we do try our best to direct tourers to the other shower block at the top of the park as the pressure is much better there. Again we thank you for taking the time to leave a review and we hope to see you again.

Local attractions

One of the many highlights of the Scottish Borders is that, while the region is rightly popular with savvy holidaymakers, it remains off the mass tourist track so you can gleefully pursue your pastimes without areas becoming overcrowded.

Fishing is one of the most popular pursuits in the area is because of Peebles’s proximity to the River Tweed, on the top scale of salmon fishing rivers in the world. Go out on your own with your rod license or bag a trip/course from one of the many local angling centres nearby; the Tweed and its tributaries yield wild trout and grayling too. Elsewhere in the area, anglers have acres of lochs for coarse fishing and the Berwickshire coast nearby for sea angling – and views – off Eyemouth, Burmouth and St Abbs.

The mountain bike trails of Glentress Forest three miles away is another big draw for active visitors – the Tweed Bike Festival is held here in May and June and Glentress/Innerleithen are part of the world famous 7stanes mountain biking trails. The award-winning centre at Glentress has trails of all grades and a most modern visitor centre with bike wash, bike hire and a bike shop.

The Tweed Love Bike Festival is held at Peebles in early summer, but if you miss it/aren’t a mountain biker, several other festivals cover several other tastes such as arts, jazz, food (nom), Highlands Games, the Rugby Sevens and the traditional week-long Beltane Festival.

Dramatic highlights like shows at the Eastgate can be had at any time of the year, as can sampling fresh local produce in the town’s hotels and restaurants (nom again), park and river walks by the Tweed and the prerequisite till-ringing at the Old Town and School Brae.

As well as Peebles, the Borders has plenty of other characterful towns to seek out such as Selkirk, Jedburgh, Galashiels and the Borders’s biggest town Hawick; those looking for even brighter lights can make their way to Edinburgh, just 20 miles away.

Must see
