Now. We know that most folk thinking Scottish festivals will think Edinburgh – and very jolly fine Edinburgh festivals are too. But. If your holiday can’t encompass most of July and August, or if you fancy a cultural Scottish sojourn at another time of year, mon come camping in Glasgow.

Kicking off with Celtic Connections for three weeks in January, Scotland’s biggest city runs festivally frolics all year round, including ones for jazz, visual art and film, and area events in the West End and Merchant City festivals; the World Pipe Band Championships is here to trumpet about also. We’re wondering if Glasgow campsites have seasonal pitches so we can stick there all year round.

Billy Connolly, Kevin Bridges and Frankie Boyle all hail from Glasgay too, so natch there’s a comedy festival alongside all these (in March) and a clutch of comedy clubs such as The State off Sauchiehall Street where pints are a mirthful couple of quid. Also culturally, Glasgow is home to the Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, several theatres, over a million books at Mitchell Library and GoMa, the Gallery of Modern Art: sample all in between pints on Sauchiehall Street. Belter.
