- Set in the Caledonian pine wood, a unique Highland hideway
- Ideal experience for adventurers, wildlife lovers and eco-tourists
- Recycled materials, barbecue on site and many activities nearby
Set in the mature Caledonian pine woods on the family-owned 20-acre croft in the Kyle of Sutherland, this restored and upcycled vintage horse trailer is ideal for a break in the great outdoors in an Area of Outstanding Nature Beauty.
Prancing Pony's rustic little Be is self sufficient, solar powered and provided with drinking water and a portable bowser. There is a stall, built onto the side which has a composting toilet (instructions provided!), kitchen-size sink and storage underneath. Access to the stall is generally through the main door along the decking, but if you need to nip to the loo in the night you can use the small jockey door to avoid midgies and rain (just don't bang your head - it is tiny!). The pod has a log burning stove and a rain capture system for your shower. There is even a USB port that will charge devices.
Heat, and light have no extra cost - any wood you can source on the ground is free, just don't pull it off the trees. You can use a drying space to dry clothes next to the chimney or outside on a line, and campfires are allowed in the dedicated space.
The woods are fairy lit at night and an ideal setting for foraging mushrooms in autumn. You can choose among a wide range of sports activities available nearby, such as mountain biking, climbing, hiking in the woods and enjoy spotting wildlife, such as Sika deer, buzzards, merlins, mallard ducks, weasels, stoats, and rabbits.
When you arrive you can park at the gate to the pod and offload your gear then drive down to the parking at the house (where you can definitely catch our wifi) and walk back up. The bins are in the car park if you need them, and if you ever ran out of drinking water you are always very welcome to help yourself to the outside tap at the owners' back door.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.
