General

  • In a Highlands forest with spectacular mountain views
  • Close to the Great Glen Way and near Loch Ness
  • Modern facilities including shower rooms and small shop

Might you know what 'coille' means in Scottish Gaelic? It means forest – which as you'll see is a mighty fitting name for the Highlands site of Inver Coille, tucked into in its own surrounding woodland with spectacular mountain views from most areas of the site.

This is definite hiking (and Nessie spotting) territory: have a short evening stroll to the local viewpoints or pleasant hike along the Way to the nearby villages of Invermoriston (two miles) or Fort Augustus (four miles), all while keeping a beady eye out for the famed Loch Ness Monster...

To keep things peaceful and safe on site, the owners ask that cars remain in the parking area once guests have offloaded their gear; just ask if you need aid and the team will be happy to help, or you can grab a wheelbarrow to shift all your kit. Either way, call into the reception area on arrival, to pick up tourist info on the area or ask the knowledgeable owners for their top tips on what to see and do. You can charge your phones and other electrical gadgets in reception too, in exchange for a few coins into the site's charity tins.

Also on site is a shared amenities block with a washing-up area, drinking water supply and shower rooms. Water is filtered from the burn which runs alongside the site (through UV and coil filtration, and tested by the Highland Council environment department).

As befits such a wildly handsome Highlands setting, campfires are allowed here, so pick up your logs and firelighting kits as well as grocery items from the ‘Highland’s smallest shop’. Local shops, post offices and pubs are a few miles away.

Dogs are most welcome; the owners have three dogs of their own.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 02/11/2020.

Peaceful and relaxing away from life. Loved the big warm fire and being able to listen to the river run. Lovely to be in the moment with people instead of being distracted by modern day life. Friendly people. Loved looking out at the stars at night. Comfy beds. Had all the cooking utensils needed. Highly recommend over any hotel or hostel.

This is a small site that, for the size, contains pretty much all the facilities you cold want in a campsite...
    Shop - check
Showers + hot water - check
    Clean toilets - check
    Fire pit - check
    Pretty much everything!

As if that is not enough the staff are fabulous and it's just off the Great Glen Way.

    Disliked:

Please be aware that the site is sloped, you need to pick your pitches carefully.

Midges. To be 100% this is not a fault of the business but depending on weather, time of year and luck midges could make your life hellish. Please bear in mind head nets and midge repellent will make a huge difference.

This is a delightfully quiet campsite near the shores of Loch Ness. It's not a big site but there's plenty of space although it is on a slight slope. The showers, loos and wash-up are all functional and clean. Check-in was easy and we had a very pleasant couple of nights camping. I wasn't disturbed by road noise as some reviewers were.

    Disliked:

Bad midges, but I can't blame the site for this!!
Only a minor dislike - you cannot drive onto the campsite so have to trundle all your gear by wheelbarrow (2 provided) to your pitch up an incline. Great exercise but it was wet when we arrived so it wasn't ideal as bedding etc got wet on the way to the tent.

Omg, the midges..... not a lot you can do about them, but be prepared

From the manager...

Many thanks for leaving us a review. We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the site, facilities and showers and that you would recommend us to others. We are aware that in the summer months that the highland midges can be a real nuisance, we do our upmost to keep them under control including having a midge machine working on site, our on-site shop sells midge repellent and nets. We also hire out fire-pits, as smoke from a wood fire can deter them. So yes, being prepared is good advice, and please speak to us about the midges, as we can help advise all guests staying here on what to do.
