Stunning camping in amongst the sand dunes by a fantastic beach! 11/07/2016

We camped at Kintra for 4 nights and we will definitely return. The site is quiet, the facilities are basic but perfectly adequate and the location is hard to beat. It felt almost like a wild camping experience as we had our own secluded spot in the dunes on the edge of a long stretch of beautiful, wild and remote sandy beach. The highlight of the holiday was sitting each evening by the tent with a glass of wine listening to the waves and looking at the sunset.

    Disliked:

The toilet block had a few too many printed notices with the rules none of which were different from other sites we have stayed on however the owners were quiet but friendly and we felt welcomed by them.

    A stunning location............

    Disliked:

.........tainted on this our second visit by the owners wife who summarily decided on day two that our and three other family's large tents had to be moved at once to the other end of her site for the astonishing reason that those staying in her holiday let wanted an uninterupted view of the bay. We complied, upon threat of a refund (unfortunately there are too few other sites on Islay). Visit only if you want basic, wild camping (we do!) and are prepared to be spoken to very curtly and on occasion aggressively by this elderly ex-school mistress if you ask the wrong questions.
