  • Dog-friendly site near Leven, with views of the Firth of Forth
  • A 25-minute drive from St Andrews; 16 other golf courses nearby
  • Smart, well-equipped holiday homes; bar, play area and walks on site
Comfy caravan by the coast? Cracking idea. Lovely Letham Feus Park is in a rural Fife spot up on a hillside with views out over the Firth of Forth and straightforward access to nearby coastal roads and the Fife Coast Path. This being the east coast of Scotland, it’s no surprise to hear that some splendid beaches and golf courses are close by. St Andrews (worth a visit even if you’re not a golfer) is around 25 minutes’ drive away, and site staff can point you towards plenty of places to fish, walk and spot wildlife nearby. Sound like the kind of setup your canine chum might very much like to join in with? Good news for them: this is a dog-friendly site with a woodland walk where they can dash about off lead. Facilities for human visitors include a licensed bar, a snooker room and a play area; there’s also an allotment garden and you may spy a few hens pecking their way around the place too. The smart caravans here are well kitted-out with a comfy living room, an ensuite bathroom and a kitchen with microwave, hob, fridge, kettle and toaster. There’s also a deck area with table and chairs so you can take in the gorgeous views while sipping a glass of wine (just a suggestion…) Drinks and other supplies can be picked up at the shops in Leven, five minutes’ drive away; pubs and eateries are also in town if you don’t fancy doing your own cooking.

Hideaway 1 bedroom cabin (hot tub, no pets, three person)

Liked: We liked that these lodges were so close to where our daughter was getting married at Pratis Barn. We booked 3 of the hideaway lodges so we were all right next to each other and stayed for 3 nights.

Local attractions

Having spied the sea from afar you’ll no doubt be keen to get down to the coast for a closer look, so scoot down to Leven (five minutes’ drive) for beach times or a round on one of several sea-view golf courses nearby (or a swim in the indoor pool if the weather’s not so great). Turning attentions inland, take tours and trailer rides to meet the grand beasts at the Scottish Deer Centre (15 minutes) or sit quietly with your binoculars to see what you might spy at RSPB Loch Leven nature reserve (half an hour). The kid-friendly Fife Folk Museum (10 minutes) makes another good visit, as do the ornate interiors and gorgeous gardens at Kellie Castle (20 minutes). Fancy dabbling in a bit of Scottish urban life? Take a stroll around St Andrews (25 minutes) to see its university and castle (or play another round on its famed golf course) or aim for Edinburgh (an hour) to wander through the Old Town and puff your way up Arthur’s Seat for splendid city views. Wee dram back at base of an evening? Take tours and pick up bottles at Kingsbarns Distillery (half an hour).
