  • Award-winning park half an hour's drive from Glasgow
  • Station within a few minutes' walk: trains to Glasgow every 30 minutes
  • Landscaped grounds, play area, games room and heated amenities
The bonnie banks o’ Loch Lomond on the doorstep and the action-packed city of Glasgow half an hour's drive away… a stay at award-winning Lomond Woods Holiday Park should prevent altercations between you and the other half if one’s a wildlife wanderer and the other’s a city slicker. (Be both: it’s more fun and more harmonious.) Set in hills and woodland on the southern edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Lomond Woods has picked up regular accolades for its pristine amenities and its friendly vibe. It’s family-run by the friendly Wood family and is used by guests for peaceful getaways, activity-filled weeks and as a base for sightseeing and shopping in Glasgow. Or, again, do the lot: you’ll even find Balloch train station within a few minutes’ walk with trains to Glasgow every half an hour, so no arguments either about who’s driving on a day trip… The grounds here are handsomely landscaped, with trees and hedges among well-kept pathways. Facilities include a playground and a games room; there's also a dog walking area and cot and high chair hire. The amenities (toilets, showers, a launderette and a washing-up area) are all kept to spotless standards by the dedicated team.

Local attractions

The Loch Lomond Park Centre just over five miles from Loch Lomond Holiday Park is the place to start for info and ideas about what to do in Scotland’s first national park. Watery activities include boating, waterskiing, canoeing and fishing; on land, active types can try climbing, hiking, biking and hacking on the 10 horse-riding paths to the park’s east, and golf at several acclaimed local courses. Elsewhere, pick up a loch cruise in Balloch half a mile away, or go on to the historic village of Luss and its visitor centre and museum at Purdie’s, 10 minutes' drive from the park. The famed wildlife haven and wallabies of Inchcailloch Island – yes, wallabies; there’s a colony here – can be reached from Balmaha (25 minutes) on the ferry or your own hired boat, or from Luss three times a day from April to October. Balmaha and Inchcailloch are both part of Loch Lomond Nature Reserve with more wildlife spotting and woodland walking trails. For urbanites, the Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Centre at Balloch is a good stop for shops, restaurants and antique and craft shops. There’s also a SEA Life aquarium and the Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre to bribe the kids with (or take them to Xscape Braehead to the south for rock climbing, ‘snow’ slopes, cinema and aerial adventure).
