General

  • Family site facing a wide run of beach
  • Launch your own boat from the beach and store on site for free
  • Excellently-kept facilities including café and bar

It’s sand and sea as far as the eye can see in the sinuous sweep of Luce Bay, and this friendly, family-run site faces right onto the huge, unspoiled beach. It will literally take you sixty seconds to stroll down there and relish the sensation of the golden crumbly stuff sliding silkily through your toes. The view in the other direction is not to be sniffed at either, as the emerald Galloway Hills undulate into the distance.

Guests at Sands of Luce Holiday Park can get their chops round an enormous breakfast or some of the homemade sarnies and cakes in the park’s café, or hunker down and work their way through an array of local whiskeys in the Lighthouse Bar, where there are always plenty of amiable regulars offering up fishing advice.

The award-winning facilities also include a playground and two games rooms for children, although they’ll probably be too busy making sandcastles, watching the boats launch from the beach, or trying out some wakeboarding and kitesurfing...

During Easter, July and August expect plenty to do on site with a free wild food beach forage and RSPB beach safaris once a week, along with a holiday programme of activity days like archery, beach kayaking, blokarts, paddle board, kite buggies and sea fishing available for a small fee.

Guests' boats can be launched from the beach and stored in the new secured boat yard at no extra charge.

Please note

The activities are charged at £10 per person for the day.

The wild food beach forage and RSPB beach safari run once a week during Easter, July and August.

Superb location for motorhome and tourer pitches, almost on the lovely long beach of Luce Bay, and with direct access onto the beach. The fully serviced large gravel pitches were nicely level and had large well maintained grassed areas alongside each pitch. Vehicular access throughout the holiday park was excellent as was cleanliness and tidyness with very good maintenance regimes being implemented by the very friendly and helpful holiday park staff. I would also confirm that the young site managers, Amy and Jack Cooper, were similarly very friendly and helpful.

The amenities on the site were excellent and in particular the recently refurbished toilets/showers/laundry block; dishwashing facilities and chemical waste point. The recently refurbished Lighthouse bar located near to the holiday park entrance was also excellent and was a good social gathering place for holiday makers. The only slight drawback in terms of available facilities was the lack of an on-site shop to provide even basic items such as bread, milk and newspapers albeit I must say that it was no hardship to walk the 500metres to the local grocery shop in nearby Sandhead village.

    Hi Sands of Luce.
Loved the view and the dog walking areas. The walk along the beech to the local village was superb with fantastic views across the Lock.
Waking up in the morning and opening the Curtains to the panoramic view of the lock and Hills/Mountains was a site one really gets only in a few camping gounds.
We will come again and we have allready passed on to our friends that it is well worth a visit.
    Kind regards
    David & Lisbeth.

Could do with a covered outside area so those of us with dogs could sit and have meals/Drinks when the Scots Mist (as Mum used to call the rain) comes down.

Fabulous site, had a wonderful week in Sunny Scotland!!!
The site was clean and well kept, our tent pitch had water and EHU so no need to drag water back to the tent.
The site had plenty of different activities organised throughout our stay, food is limited to set days but well worth a trip to the lighthouse bar to sample the delights, we went to watch the local bands who was both fab!!
The site is located close to many beautiful attractions and there is plenty to keep all the family happy.
    Will definitely be visiting again.

Brilliant Site Great Caravan Fantastic Staff 18/07/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Ian H. Confirmed

  • 2 bedroom static caravan

  • Liked:

The Caravan looked like it was virtually brand new had maybe only been used a couple of times and was very luxurious and stunning even had an en suite toilet. It was very clean as was all the cooking pots and utensils and crockery. The bed again very clean and gave me a great sleep it was fairly firm . The children s beds didn't get any complaints either. It was a lovely touch to get freshly made cookies and a complimentary selection of teas and coffee in the caravan on arrival . The site was immaculate very well kept and great access to the beach . The staff were all polite and friendly and nothing seemed to be any trouble. I would stay again.

    Disliked:

The kids thought the telly was small but they were hardly inside and anyway i was surprised that it was so good with the built in DVD. They are spoiled by 50 inch.

Absolutely fantastic weekend - the owners were able to accommodate our caravan and our friends' tent next to each other. Perfect pitch next to the beach - my dog couldn't believe his luck. Lovely modern and clean toilet block, nice bar / restaurant and such well kept grounds. Food was great, live music, dog friendly and would be amazing for children
Can't wait for our next trip, thanks.

Local attractions

The wide open spaces, jagged cliffs and river inlets surrounding Luce Bay make for great birdwatching and wildlife spotting, as well as rambling and pedalling (and there are plenty of charismatic watering holes en route). Naturally, it’s fertile fishing, golfing and horse riding territory too.

Dotted with pretty fishing villages, this stretch of Galloway coast has an unusually mild micro-climate; there are a number of idyllic public gardens here, such as Logan Botanic Garden, which is filled with colourful blooms, palm trees and exotic southern hemisphere plants.

You can also visit the lighthouse at the Mull of Galloway, which is the most southerly point in Scotland, to sound out the mother of all foghorns and enjoy views all the way to Ireland.
