Gallivant to the Gaelic shores of Ryan Bay to guarantee you and your wee ones a dose of brisk Scottish air so plentiful that even the most restless of residers will be zonked out night after night...
The scenic saunters to be had on the west coast of Scotland are enough to exhaust any intrepid explorer and there’s no better place to rest your heid than at Ryan Bay Caravan Park. Even on a dreich day, you can choose to whisk(y) yourself away for a highland hike or enjoy the perfect excuse for loching yourself up cosy and warm…
So pick a pitch from which to take in the bonny backdrop. A hol for the whole family will greet you here. A place for a pint? Aye! Outdoor play area for the little people? Certainly. Pooches permitted? Indeed. Campers and caravanners can make the most of the green pitches, free heated showers, covered dishwashing area and Elsan and waste disposal points. There is also a laundry on site for guests’ use and the park has CCTV too.
When you’re not basking in the beauty of the Bay on your doorstep, the local area has plenty to keep the whole family out and about. Seafarers can even hop aboard a ferry from Cairnryan (just three and a half miles north) and enjoy a day trip to Northern Ireland, where the crossing will take you to Larne.
Castle Kennedy and Gardens are about seven miles south-east of the park and have a bountiful array of plants (some rare and exotic) and wildlife to spy - there are even bird hides to get snug in. Family events are arranged throughout the season so kids could be in for extra entertaining and educational treats. They’ll feel like real winners hiding beneath the 20 towering and ancient ‘Champion Trees’ and there’s a right royal time to be had exploring the ruins of the sixteenth-century castle.
Sea lovers will be beaming like beacons as they skidaddle to Scotland’s most southerly point, the Mull of Galloway (45 minutes’ drive). Climb the 26m-high lighthouse and visit the engine room exhibition to have all your questions answered by the experts and have a peek at the artefacts housed there. The surroundings are a Site of Scientific Interest and RSPB reserve, so when you’re not mulling over Mull’s scenery, you can spot the likes of roe deer, brown hare, guillemots and puffins. The coffee shop here serves up hot drinks and snacks, as well as a scoop (or two) of Cream o’Galloway ice cream, which can be tucked into as you gawk at the panoramic views of Galloway, the Isle of Man and Ireland.
Foodies, The Cocoabean Company chocolate factory is about an hour’s drive east, where, aside from the feast to be had, there are kids’ workshops and play areas. About 45 minutes from the site you’ll find Galloway Smokehouse (in Wigtown Bay) for the very best smoked Scottish salmon and trout and where you can pick up some absolutely gilliant recipes. If you’re on the way back from the smokehouse, Bladnoch Whiskey Distillery’s shop is enroute and we think it’d be rude not to pop in for a sample of Scotland’s finest to take home...
Galloway Forest Park is around an hour and a half’s drive inland. Three hundred square miles of rugged Scottish scenery await here in Britain’s largest forest park. Fill up on your porridge oats and make a day of it, taking on a cycle ride or walk around rivers and lochs, spotting birds of prey along the way. You’ll be starry eyed as you as you gaze above too, seeing exactly why this is one of just four Dark Sky Parks in the Western world.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
Use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together when booking multiple pitches: the campsite or park will try to grant your request.
Large groups: check the listing page for any group restrictions set out in the terms and section titled ‘Please note’.
Large tents/caravans: check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit is suitable for the space you will be provided with.
