  • Laser combat, watersports, archery, climbing, zipwiring and more
  • Café serving evening meals and breakfast

Activity seekers and adrenaline champs – come and ken the place for you. Zip your way along to Galloway Activity Centre on the shores of Loch Ken in Scotland’s southwest for a shipshape activity hol, whether you’re planning on plunging into water alongside your beloved, paddling about as part of a group, or taking the family along to try (and fail) to show them who’s boss with a bow and arrow.

Even the views here are champion, with roomy pitches overlooking Loch Ken and the Galloway Hills, and there are loads of other active options in the area too: have a surf of the local attractions from the tab on the right.

Galloway Activity Centre has assembled a winning line-up whether guests are happier on land or in the safe non-tidal waters of Loch Ken, with a huge range of activities and outdoor equipment to tackle: outdoor laser combat games, archery, climbing, paddle sports, windsurfing, sailing, mountain biking, zip wires… take your pick then design your own activity package to mix it all up.

After all that energy burning, you might be chuffed to know that the centre has a TV for night time chilling, and that evening nosh (as well as brekkie) is available at the site café. Toilets and showers are available in the clubhouse, which is open all night.

This site is a happy place to be even when it rains each night. The center must be a great place in the summer. The Staff I found very friendly and helpful. I hope to return and hopefully see it in the better weather. The Yurts looked very cosy with chimneys smoking.

Fantastic views over the loch, the facilities are very good, instructors friendly, enthusiastic. Tried a few new activities, felt safe under there supervision.

    Disliked:

Visited towards end of the holiday period, it was clear ,that had been very busy, it showed signs of fatigue. The combined shower/changing room is a problem, needs a separate changing building. It can get very expensive,if wanting to do lots of different activities.

The staff were great and very friendly. Our pitch overlooked the Loch and it was glorious we were very lucky with the weather and had 2 days of sunshine. The pitch was a great size and we managed to fit everything in. Our kids had a ball they did one activity that was the water slide and they thought it was brilliant and we thought it was a good price for an hour activity. In the evening we stayed at the camp and wandered down to the water to throw stones and the kids ran about for hours in the middle field they had an absolute ball. The dish washing facilities were ample and it was a bonus to have a cafe on site which we used for lunch the first day, nice soup and a roll. We would recommend it and will be back. Thank you.

The showers and toilets weren't great the floor was really very dirty and always soaking wet I realise it is hard to keep them clean all the time but I never seen anyone clean them. This is the only issue we had over all it was great.

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, great to hear that you liked the facilities on site and you got chance to take part in the activities and water sports.

The wifi here is terrible but there is no charge for it. Unfortunately due to the speed in the area (around 0.3Mb/s) we aren't able to offer wifi on site at the moment.

Thanks again and hopefully we'll see you again in the future

All needs a bit of a good clean, especially toilet areas. Did see staff clean twice but not ideal having toilets in the changing room, bit smelly with all the wetsuits and constant puddle on the floor
    Having to take rubbish home!

From the manager...

Thanks so much for leaving us a review, great to hear that you enjoyed your stay here, found it was good value and most importantly (for us) got a warm welcome.
The changing rooms do get hammered in the summer and it's a constant struggle to keep them clean, I'm sorry we didn't quite manage to keep up with it at this time but we do try and (believe it or not) they're cleaned three or four times a day in peak season.
Thanks again for your review and I hope we see you again

Local attractions

Most folk who visit Galloway Activity Centre find more than enough to do on site, but if you do decide to explore the area you’ll be on a winning streak whether you stick close to home or get into the car for a drive around Dumfries to visit award-winning gardens, National Trust Scotland sites, championship golf courses or the many nature reserves and wildlife havens: Dumfries and Galloway has a famed Red Kite Trail, red squirrel sanctuaries and seabirds by the thousands at the Mull of Galloway.

The activity centre is right on the edge of the Galloway Forest National Park, where you can take a break from all the activity by gazing upwards: the park was the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and has the darkest skies in Europe because of its remote location.

Elsewhere, there are three hundred square miles to explore, the 7Stanes trails beloved by mountain bikers, that Red Kite Trail (and a Red Deer Range). Drop into one of the visitor centres for armfuls of info and ideas: there are centres at Kirroughtree, Glentrool and Clatteringshaws.

Also about, Castle Douglas, Galloway Activity Centre’s nearest town, has a growing (and apt) rep as Scotland’s food town: sample all sorts of fish, toffee (not together), game and other delicacies to see for yourself; you’ll be burning off hundreds of calories after all…

Foodies can also go along to one of Castle Douglas’s regular food fairs, food weekends or chef masterclasses, and walk it all off with a trek around Threave Castle and its gardens or a circular hike from Castle Douglas around Carlingwark Loch.

Film fan or feeling wicked? Dumfries and Galloway is where The Wicker Man was filmed and there’s now an annual festival as well as a Wicker Man trail from Kirkcudbright.

Must see

  • Robert Burns Centre (19.3 miles)
  • John Paul Jones Cottage Museum & Visitor Centre (22.7 miles)
