General

  • Small and well-maintained park with superb views
  • Pampering spa with hot tub, sauna and more
  • Next to a beach nature reserve

Peaceful, quiet, relaxing and nature-filled breaks are the name of the game at Queensberry Bay Holiday Park, a small family-owned holiday park on the shores of Scotland's Solway Firth.

If pubs, clubs and loud entertainment are very much not your thing, you'll find all you need here at this top-end and popular park instead, from a very well-regarded pampering spa (Prosecco in the hot tub, anyone?) to an excellent little campers' kitchen with first-class views across the bay.

The park also has excellently maintained showers and loos, and a small licensed shop selling essentials like chocolate and the (also very well-regarded) Queensberry bacon rolls.

The Queensberry team is keen to point out that those looking for golden sands might be better off heading further west along the coast; the beach here, however, is a beaut nature reserve filled with grassy knolls and pools, and a breeding ground of the protected natterjack toad. It's just the spot for Spot and other dogs too as it's a perfect place for walking the pooch.

Wifi did not work properly with phones (both Microsoft ex-Nokia). Problem seemed to be weak wifi signal. Unfortunately we had left our tablet, which might have worked, at home. We were able to check e-mail at the nearby hotel.

We stayed on the shoreside adults only touring pitch.Whats not to like waking up to the sight and sounds of the sea.The site has an excellent shop staffed by friendly people and the top notch toilet block is accessed by security card. The vast beach is great for dogs and you certainly feel invigorated after a windy walk along its length. There's a short stroll up the road to the hotel if you want some food and refreshment. The interesting farm animals are a nice touch for kids and the spa is available for the adults, though we didn't make use of it.

    Disliked:

The very poor road surface to the entrance of the site and paying a pound for a 5min shower.Oh and falling flat on my back into the sea misjudging the gap between the beach path and the tidal stream running beside it.
