  • Spacious and peaceful farm site with sea views over the Moray Firth
  • About 10 minutes' drive from Macduff for shops and boat trips
  • Safe kids' play area and games barn on site
It’s a bonny outlook from Wester Bonnyton Farm, a rural site overlooking the Moray Firth (for which read splendid sea views by day and stunning sunsets later in the day). Beaches, golf, fishing and the whisky trail may well fill your Scottish days; you might just spot birds overhead and dolphins out in the waves too. If it’s peaceful times you seek, this place should be right up your street – there’s heaps of space to relax, a pond to wander round and wildlife to spot as you roam. Nippers can safely roam at the play area or retreat into the games barn should the Scottish weather dampen outdoor proceedings. Travelling pups are welcome too as long as they’re kept on leads. The vistas may be out and out rural but in reality you’re not that far removed from civilisation here: the little seaside towns of Macduff and Banff are about 10 minutes away by car for those times when you want to scavenge for supermarket supplies, restaurant meals or chips to munch while looking out to sea. Facilities on site include a small shop, a toilet/shower block and a laundry room with outdoor washing lines. Folks making their way along the North East 250 scenic driving trail may also like to note that Wester Bonnyton’s a highly convenient stopover, requiring no deviation from the prescribed route.

Local attractions

Best be packing those binoculars for a trip to these parts: you may well need them on hand around the site, and they’ll certainly come into their own on the boat trips that leave Macduff harbour to scout for puffins, seals and dolphins. You can, however, safely leave them behind when getting up close to the residents of the Macduff Marine Aquarium (five minutes’ drive) or the Scottish Dolphin Centre, 45 minutes away in Moray. Imagine life as a Scots laird on a visit to a historic Duff House (10 minutes’ drive) or board your carriage for a drive of 20 minutes to Delgatie Castle, where there’s a fab trout fishery in the wooded grounds. More castle action? Try Fyvie (half an hour) for artworks, Huntly (40 minutes) for atmospheric ruins, or Crathes (an hour and 15 minutes) which has a Go Ape adventure course. A bit more activity? Golfers can take their clubs for a round at the highly scenic Royal Tarlair Golf Club (five minutes) while apprentice surfers can learn skills at the surf school in Sandend (25 minutes). Quite enough of all that dashing about? Perhaps time for a whisky at Macduff Distillery or one of the many others within an hour’s drive.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: An amazing small campsite run by friendly couple. There was 4 tents and they all had children. The kids all enjoyed playing at the park that you could see from your tent, they especially liked the zip line (even my teenagers were joining in). We all loved talking to the pony and the chickens and there was wild rabbits wandering about too that came right up to us. Fantastic price and well kept grounds. They were running a bathroom system where each family got their own numbered toilet, sink and shower so there was no concerns about whether it was cleaned after the previous person etc which was great during covid times. I’d definitely recommend and we hope to visit again soon.
