  • Spectacular scenery in a peaceful place
  • On the shores of Gareloch
  • Bar, trampolines, climbing frames and soft play area

Seeking scenic sanctuary in Scotland? The hidden haven of Rosneath Castle Caravan Park on the shores of Argyll’s Gareloch is the site for you: even the name Rosneath comes from the Gaelic for sanctuary (‘Rosneimhidh’) and the area as a whole is known as the Green Isle, with spectacular scenery all around and the Argyllshire mountains rising in the distance (have a squint at the site pics to see of what we speak). Tis why, we're sure, holidaymakers return to hide here year after year…

Rosneath covers 57 acres on Gareloch’s southern shore and has been set up to suit all sorts: parents might like to seek sanctuary while the kids bounce around the trampolines, swings, climbing frames and football pitch (smaller sorts have their own soft play area to keep them occupied too); there’s fishing on site and a Rod & Reels fishing shop, and those who want to make a bit of a splash can take professional watersports tuition at nearby Loch Long from July to September. Accommodation is in well-maintained holiday homes and the park has a grocery shop, launderette and games room.

Take the kids to try timbale of haggis, neeps and tatties at the reasonably priced on-site Castle Isle bar which has lunch, dinners and takeaways (breakfasts are also available on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am until noon). Singers, tribute bands and other acts are on hand for family-friendly entertainment during the summer season and school holidays.

For sanctuary seekers who also like to shop, Rosneath Castle Caravan Park is around an hour’s drive from Glasgow (with a good helping of more spectacular scenery along the way), 15 miles from Helensburgh and neatly placed for Dunoon, Oban, and Stirling. The village of Rosneath and the town of Greenock are both close by for supplies.
