General

  • Family-run park eight kilometres from Cork
  • Views of Blarney Castle
  • Immaculate amenities including a campers' kitchen

Not got the gift of the gab? Fear not, tongue-tied types: simply go along to Blarney Castle, hang yourself upside down and snog the world-famous Blarney Stone, heralded for centuries for bequesting travellers and barristers with unusual eloquence. Then get tongue-tied all over again when viewing the vista and facilities at Blarney Caravan and Camping Park, our closest site to the stone of Blarney.

This family-run park is eight kilometres from Cork and three from Blarney village, but it’s secluded and peaceful enough to feel you’re in the middle of the country (perfect for wandering around and trying out your newly-won articulation skills, we say).

There’s loads of open space for Blarney ball games, as well as a smartly-maintained play area and an 18-hole pitch and putt course (extra charge applies). The park is gently sloping and well sheltered, with views of Blarney Castle and the surrounding countryside.

Facilities at Blarney are immaculate, from the free showers to the camp kitchen, and it’s all neatly laid out among well-maintained grass and spacious pitches.

Blarney Caravan and Camping Park is easily reached from the ferry ports at Cork and Rosslare, and has a campervan service area if you’re bringing your own wheels from the UK. There’s also free wifi on site, for getting eloquent online too.

Free Showers, very clean washing facilities, Beautiful setting, plenty of room for pitches. Very Safe. Football pitch to keep kids entertained.

    Disliked:

If you need a shop (small one on site but very little in it) or fancy a pint you will need to drive/organise lift. Blarney town is just over 2km away but road is dangerous to cycle/walk.

Only one tap at tent pitches.

Two sets of showers, both unisex, huge size with a little seat and space to turn around making it much easier to dress and undress without falling over or getting soaked.

Well designed so all van pitches within easy strolling distance of the loo.

Really nice wash-up area with space to eat indoors. Not that we needed it. We had fantastic weather too.

    Ideal for Blarney Castle.

    Disliked:

A long walk to Blarney Village along a fast road with no pavement. Downhill there and a steep uphill back.

The buses to Cork would be good if there was anywhere to park for more than two hours.

The only reason I wouldn't use this site again is its location. You only need to kiss the Blarney Stone once in any one lifetime.

Very friendly welcome, clean and well maintained site..
Free powerful showers..(Could do with better temperature control, my partner found them a bit too hot)

Peaceful location, very little road noise at night.

Pitch and Putt and small shop selling essentials.

Good location for visiting Blarney & Cork.

    Lovely Cats on site...

    Disliked:

Bloody Rooks, very noisy in the morning, obviously not something in the power of the owners to effect...

Would have been better if a seperate dog walking area had been provided.

Best site we visited over the week in Ireland. Very friendly gentleman who greeted us at 19.50hrs, full of knowledge and helpful tips. Site very clean, showers free!! A bonus, 4* rating and I would agree with this. Plenty of amenities. We will definitely return here. Close also to the famous Blarney Castle and woolen mill. Local pub with Irish music entertainment also. Very happy with service and stay.
12 noon departure from site and visitors (friends of campers) can stay till 11pm. Excellent WiFi.

Local attractions

Cork is crammed with dozens of things to see and do, from its top attraction Fora Wildlife Park to Blue Flag beaches, top pubs and restaurants, golf courses, fishing and oodles of arts and community festivals all year round.

Blarney Caravan and Camping Park is in north Cork, where the rivers of Blackwater are world renowned for coarse and game fishing; nearby Fermoy is an inland fishing centre to land trout and salmon. Head to west Cork for craggy coastline and gourmet food in Kinsale, Bandry or Baltimore (or all three), and east for farmers’ markets, Ballymaloe Cookery School, birdwatching at the coastline from Ballycotton to Youghal, and a trip to the Jameson distillery at Midleton.

The islands off Cork’s south-west coast are a must: Bere for deep sea fishing and a sailing school; Dursey and Cape Clear for birdwatching and Sherkin for sparkling white beaches and a natural history museum.

If you’re into your history and heritage – we’ll assume so if you’re here to romance the Blarney Stone – Cork is like the rest of Ireland in having heaps of historical highlights, like Kanturk Castle; the town of Cobh, last stop of the Titanic before its journey towards New York, and the old town of Mallow with Mallow castle and a heritage centre for tracing Cork ancestors. There’s also a racecourse just outside the town; well, horse-racing is a pretty historical thing too…

At least a day should be had in Cork City, Ireland’s third biggest after Dublin and Belfast. Cork City gaol and St Finbarr’s cathedral are the two big tourist draws; there are night tours in the gaol every Thursday for proper goosebumping.

Several shopping centres are to hand to help you spend all your euros before going home, but if you’ve only time for one shopping trip make it to The English Market, not where you buy English people, but a covered market selling food and organic produce of all sorts and called ‘the best covered market in the UK and Ireland’ by Rick Stein.

Leave the car behind and get the bus to Cork City from Blarney village: there are a few pubs here for fortification before making your way back to berth.
