Ten acres of native Irish woodland edged by an ancient ring fort and pure camping in serious eco style – on the south side of the famed Loop Head Peninsula, named in 2013 as ‘the best place to holiday in Ireland’ and a designated European Destination of Excellence (EDEN)? Sounds heavenly to us.

Run by owners Trea, Kevin, their two children, three dogs, three cats, three hens, cockerel and donkeys Betty and Jack, Purecamping in the small village of Querrin, Co Clare, will have you on cloud nine with its sincerely thought out vibe and facilities: it’s designed to let guests experience ‘camping as it should be’ and has a seriously sustainable living vibe (there’s even an electric car charger on site).

All overlooks the Shannon Estuary (where you may see bottlenose dolphins a-frolicking) and is near the Querrin shore to flock to for spying winter waders, herons, ducks and geese, and Querrin Creek for a bit of action at rowing, sailing fishing and kayaking. Pure bliss.

Among the many splendoured things on site are the ways it’s set up for collective activities: the 12m geodesic communal dome, sauna and shared campfire spots are pretty flawless; and guests are also fervent fans of the outdoor clay oven to bake goodies under the stars. Wood is available on site for a nominal fee if you haven't brought your own.

Purecamping has a choice of loo and shower facilities, both designed for their green credentials: the main shower and loo block has hot water via solar panels and a wood stove, with water harvested from rain and the site’s own well, and a second block has compost loos and solar showers.

Terms and conditions

Please read the park terms and conditions below and the terms and conditions.

Additional terms

Purecamping is a quiet family campsite where people come to get away from it all. We ask that you consider other campers when it comes to late night noise etc.

The geodesic dome is a common space for campers and a wonderful all-weather space for children. It is available from 9am to 10pm each day. We ask that parents and children help us to keep it tidy and a pleasant space for all users.

Quiet time is from 11.30pm to 9am. The campsite gate will be closed for vehicular traffic from 11.30pm. If you are taking a taxi home, please ask them to drop you at the top of the road. This will ensure less disruption for sleeping campers.

Alcohol is allowed at Purecamping in moderation.

Drugs are not permitted at Purecamping.

Abusive or aggressive behaviour will result in the termination of your holiday with no refund.

We are an eco-camp site, so we ask that all elements of the environment are considered and protected.

Please think carefully about waste and perhaps offer any leftover food to other campers.

Recycling and composting facilities are available. Please separate your waste.

Please conserve water where possible and use solar showers.

During your stay please feel free to ask us about the green technology that we employ on site.

Wifi is available for your convenience to help you with your holiday plans and email, etc. Purecamping should be an opportunity for adults and children alike to step back from technology and enjoy life. Therefore, we ask that children's online activity should be kept to a minimum and we reserve the right to turn off the wifi access at any time.

Dogs must be kept under control and on leads.

We encourage you to bring your own firewood for campfires but we do have some available on site.
