Excellent site with clean facilities and friendly owner 16/08/2017

Pitched for 2 nights for Bristol Balloon Festival. The owner - Mike was friendly and helpful. Even spent time with the kids taking them on tractor rides and organising chicken races, they loved it. Field good size with pitches well spread out, Mike will even bring you some wood for the fire pit if you like. Quite and out of the way. Only 10 minutes drive from the Festival ground so very handy close and handy. Showers and toilets were very clean and well stocked. The toilets are a dry compost toilet, this didn't bother me, they are kept immaculate Would thoroughly recommend and would definitely pitch there again.

    Disliked:

If I had to be picky, it would have to be that there was no hot water to wash up with, but what do you expect when you are in the middle of a field.

Beautiful campsite and surrounding area, nice and natural and fairly minimalist, but still with necessary amenities such as loo and shower. Being able to have a fire was also a lovely touch and the owner was very accommodating, welcoming and friendly.
A beautiful time was had by us both. Wouldn't definitely visit again 🙂

Michael was very helpful and friendly. The place is extremely quiet. Separate pitches for kids and no kids, which is great. During the night there is essentially no light sources around. We were super lucky to happen to have visited during the Perseids meteor shower. Magical experience.

    Disliked:

The road leading to the pitch is a bit rough.

Lovely spot, everything was clean and nice (kids were fascinated by the composting toilets!). Our host was friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely stay and the kids would like to come again.

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike!
We might have found it more easily if the directions had said "go all the way through Regil village and out the other side, down the hill and it's on the bend"....however everyone else seemed to have found it ok, so maybe it was just us...

Loved loved loved this camp site! We are a young married couple who camp a lot around the country at weekends and this is by far and away one of the bets sites we have stayed on. Michael the owner, is so relaxed and chilled unlike a lot of campsite owners. We arrived about 8pm and he offered us the option of a family field or a more quiet one - we opted for the latter. The site is set on a beautiful field with stunning views and you get the peace and tranquity you want. we were given a campfire and for £5 you can buy a whole wheelbarrow full of wood which was excellent for the cooler English nights. Surroundings are lovely and really enjoyed the stay! Toilets and showers were really clean too which is always a bonus.

Thank you for a lovely weekend at Walnut Tree Farm! The farmer went above and beyond our expectations in every way and we had a great weekend. From calling us in advance to discuss the weather, to chicken racing, cow whispering and taking the kids on tractor rides, Michael was the most excellent host all weekend and we were loathe to leave.

Billed as wild camping, the toilet and shower facilities were exceptionally good and we didn't feel like we were roughing it at all. Walnut Tree Farm was the perfect spot to relax and unwind around the camp fire while the kids played.

The site is really close to Bristol with lots of fun activities to do in the area, although the most fun we had was actually hanging around on the farm meeting the animals and enjoying the fresh air. The kids loved it.

Thank you Michael for a perfect weekend, we're so glad we came and will definitely see you again!

    Disliked:

We didn't like having to go home.

From the manager...

Local attractions

Looking over the Mendip Hills, it would seem that these limestone beauties would be an apt place to start your explorations from Walnut Tree Farm... it’s easy to see why this is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there’s plenty to do around the hills to take it all in.

With underground caves and rivers to explore, you wouldn’t be foolish for thinking this is more Middle-earth than Mendip, but wherever you play out your adventure, the opportunities for caving, cycling, walking, and horse riding will have (big and) little kids beguiled. Scenery aside, birdwatchers, butterfly spotters and flora enthusiasts will find some real gems among the natural treasures here.

For those whose fingers are of a green disposition, the arboretum at Westonbirt (just over 30 miles north) has a collection of trees (more than 2,500 different types, if we’re getting into the specifics) from China to North America. There are 17 miles of pathways to walk around and hands-on activities along the trails for mini explorers.

As well as the prehistoric Cheddar Gorge half an hour’s drive from the campsite, there’s a Victorian fort at Brean Down (about an hour’s drive west), and an Iron Age-hill fort (about 40 minutes south) at Brent Knoll, to hook every kind of history buff.

While you’re doing the historical rounds, go Gothic at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, a turreted and stone-carved mansion ten miles north of Walnut Tree Farm. You'll be able to smell a good tale here – the house was once owned by one of the country’s wealthiest commoners, who managed to get himself rather stinking rich thanks to fertiliser. It’ll all make scents if you pay it a visit and find out more.

Step onto the Monarch’s Way footpath to walk along the escape route from the Battle of Worcester said to have been taken by King Charles II back in 1651. Running from Worcester to Bristol and down to Brighton, the path is clearly marked so ensures a royally safe experience.

From the Monarch’s Way south of Bristol, you’ll wind up in wonderful Wells (15 miles from Walnut Tree Farm), where a cracker of a cathedral awaits, along with the 800-year-old Bishop’s Palace and its myriad of medieval features including a drawbridge for trip-trapping over and well-kept gardens for exploring.

Bath (45 minutes to the east) has great walking tours, locally brewed Bath Ales to sample and the Jane Austen Centre to visit, not to mention a lengthy dip in the Roman baths to be had.

Bristol (35 minutes away) has the At-Bristol Science Centre, Bristol Zoo Gardens, Bristol Aquarium and Wild Place Project to get stuck into; a trip to these parts wouldn’t be complete either without a hangout at the Clifton Suspension Bridge: take your camera to get some gorge snaps.
