General

  • Multi award-winning and adults-only luxury holiday park
  • On the edge of a Somerset village 25 minutes from Glastonbury
  • Spotless amenities and setting among trees and picnic tables

You'll likely want a long stay at leafy and award-winning Long Hazel in Somerset: it looks lush, is run to swish standards, and is an excellent Somerset setting for getting out and about (the famed Haynes International Motor Museum, for example, is within a mile).

The friendly and professional Long Hazel team prides itself on the vibe, amenities and look of the park, all set over three and a half acres of handsomely landscaped grounds surrounded by trees and dotted with benches and picnic tables. It's a cinch to get to as well, as you can drive straight off the A303 into the high street of the local village and up Long Hazel's private two-lane road – nice and wide for vehicles of up to 40 feet too.

All this lushness is on the edge of the village of Sparkford, a couple of miles from Yeovilton and three miles from Cadbury Castle. Glastonbury, Bath, Wells and Cheddar are all easily reachable for day trips, and the park is on the bus route for all local festivals if you seek a peaceful and pristine retreat after a day wading in mud. The Hauser and Wirth art gallery and arts venue at Bruton is eight and a half miles away.

Long Hazel is firmly eco friendly (even bread is recycled, onto the bird table), and has excellent amenities including toilets, hot showers, a covered washing-up area and a launderette. There's a separate bathroom suite for wheelchair users and mobility-impaired guests, with room for carers and accessible by small mobility scooters.

Finally, another fab feature of this fab park: not only are dogs welcome but other pets are too – cats, rabbits and ferrets have all come along for a holiday here too.

Upon arrival we were shown to our pitch and asked if we needed help pitching...can't say I've been asked that before, and no I didn't take his offer as we only have a smallish tent.
The campsite was well maintained and kept very clean. The pitches are a good size as well.
    The bathroom was very clean.

Walking distance from a lovely family pub... perfect!

    Disliked:

You had to let the shower run a bit before getting in :):) cubicles were a bit small as well..... But I'm being really picky as it was a lovely site

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review and kind words. We are always available to help as we live on site and hate to see campers struggle putting up their tents.

We are always happy to let customers use our accessible facilities if you need a larger space, please just ask next time. You are incredibly brave to just hop in to a shower when you are on holiday without letting it run to warm up first! Our showers are set to 40 degrees and we do inform customers that it is best to let them run briefly before jumping in to get up to a good temperature and enjoy them at their best!

We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Small, very clean site. Excellent shower block. Friendly owners. Good sized level pitches. Well organised.

    Disliked:

Would have liked an additional outdoor washing up facility. Only two sinks in a very cramped room. It got very hot and no room to move.
A303 very close so could here the traffic pretty much all the time

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review and we are so glad you were able to spend the Bank Holiday weekend with us. We take great pride in our facilities and their cleanliness and have been awarded 100% for cleanliness by the Tourist Board for several years in a row.

We have taken on board your comments regarding the washing up facilities although this is not something we are looking to expand in the future. In the 21 years of running our park, we have only ever had overjoyed customers who are grateful not to be washing up in an outdoor facility in the rain. We find that whilst on holiday, the majority of our customers choose to go out to eat and therefore use this facility less and less. We are always happy to recommend local pubs and restaurants during your next visit and give you a break from the washing up too!

We hope to see you again soon!

This is a very attractive site, well organised and run by friendly owners. The location is great for exploring Somerset and North Dorset and there are good local facilities (Spar, fuel etc) within a few hundred yards. Thoroughly recommended.

    Disliked:

If one improvement were made it would be to organise water to the hard standing pitches to make them fully serviced, they already have electricity conveniently located.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your review and we're so happy you had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend exploring Somerset and all it has to offer!

Unfortunately we are unable to add serviced pitches without tearing up the grass so this isn't something we'd be looking in to offering. Fortunately you're never further than 20 metres away from a water standpipe at Long Hazel Park!

Everything you need at hand and a very good size pitch for my camper and a small tent if required. Definitely recommend and would have liked to have spent longer here if I wasn’t touring. Directions

Leave the A303 at Hazlegrove Services, Sparkford and follow the brown and white tourist camping and caravanning signs into the village high street. The park is on the lefthand side 100 yards past the 30mph signs signposted Long Hazel Park.

We are the nearest quality inspected Park to the Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford (1/2 mile) and the Royal Naval Air Station and Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton with its annual Air Show (2 miles).

Cadbury Castle the legendary stronghold of King Arthur is situated 2 miles away.

Public transport serves our Park from Yeovil or Shepton Mallet by bus passing through Castle Cary and connecting with First Great Western Trains at Castle Cary Railway Station for trains to London and Cornwall or Weymouth to Gloucester and other networks.

Local attractions

There's enough to do near here to keep you busy for months: Long Hazel is halfway along the Leland Trail and among plenty of country walks; famed museums are within a couple of miles, and settlements from small villages to towns and cities like Castle Cary, Bruton, Yeovil, Bath and Bristol are within easy driving distance. The park is also on several cycle routes.

This is King Arthur land too, with the Iron Age hill fort at South Cadbury rumoured to be the setting of Camelot; the Long Hazel team say this is a must-see, particularly for the spectacular views across Somerset and Dorset.

Also close by are the exhibits and events of Haynes International Motor Museum, half a mile away, and RNAS Yeovilton and Fleet Air Arm Museum, both within three. For historical sites, drive along to Glastonbury Tor and Abbey (25 minutes), Wells Cathedral (35 minutes) and the Wookey Hole Caves (45 minutes). Spectacular Cheddar Gorge is just under an hour from the park.
