- Friendly and secluded farm site two miles from the A38
- Four pubs serving food within two miles
- Excellently-kept amenities including hot showers and games room/lounge
Spick, span, secluded and small are the first necessities guests are likely to tick off when they arrive at Gamlins Farm Caravan Park near Wellington in Somerset, with other essentials like a friendly welcome and nearness to Somerset’s sights also a shoe-in.
Many guests use Gamlins Farm as a stopover on their way to Devon and Cornwall (it’s just two miles from the A38), but those who stick around Somerset for a week or two find plenty of activities here to boot, such as hiking and biking along the Grand Western Canal a mile away, taking a trip to Taunton (20 minutes) or traipsing around the Blackdown Hills, reachable in about 10 minutes’ drive.
Gamlins Farm Caravan Park is a friendly and laidback place to lay your hat: it’s family run by a team who keep standards high around the site amenities including clean showers and toilets, free hot water and free use of hairdryers.
A launderette is on standby for guests’ use and there’s also a games/lounge room with pool table and loads of tourist info on Somerset and its surrounding areas. Free wifi is available.
The park is spread over four acres in a remote valley and has recycling facilities and a chemical disposal point. Supplies can be picked up nearby at two village shops – Greenham a mile and a half away and Holcome Rogus two miles away – or at three supermarkets five miles away in Wellington.
Bah to cooking? Four very decent pubs with top-notch food and real ales are within two miles of the campsite: the Globe Inn, The Prince of Wales, The Poacher's Pocket and The Beam Bridge Inn.
All members of the family – junior as well as canine – are welcome at Gamlins Farm, although the management just ask that dogs are kept on leads while on site and exercised in the adjoining paddock.

Many sites set a maximum occupancy of 6/8 people per pitch, so try breaking your booking down into smaller groups to generate more results. For example, if you’re a group of 10, enter 5 people in your initial search and then book 2 pitches.
However, where the pitch or accommodation occupancy allows it, you can make a booking for up to 30 adults and 30 children in one booking.
To book multiple pitches or accommodation, use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together. Complete the booking form for the first booking (you can add a password and save your card so that we remember your details). Then click "Make another booking like this" at the top of the confirmation page to make the next booking.

The 11 or so miles of the Grand Western Canal from Somerset’s Taunton to Devon’s Tiverford is within walking distance of Gamlins, with a local nature reserve and the Grand Western Country Park to amble around after a stroll along the towpath.
Three circular walks meander around the canal too, as well as access to two long-distance trails, the Two Counties Way and the Mary/Michael Pilgrims Way, but there are more placid pursuits here such as fishing from the canal bank or taking out a boat for a gentle drift. You have to try a horse-drawn barge from Tiverton too: these traditional ways of transport are the last still cantering about in the Westcountry.
After trying all four pubs and their real ale selections around Gamlins Farm, visitors also have the cider of Somerset to sample at Sheppy's Farm and Cider Centre in Taunton, one of several cider producers in Somerset (it’s good to get an early taste for it if you’re going on to Cornwall).
Also in the town is Taunton Racecourse (not recommended combined with copious amounts of cider), parks of both the retail and the green variety, and the Museum of Somerset in the grounds of Taunton Castle. Closer to home for rainy days, Wellington has a cinema, shops and two sports centres.
Masses of day trips are within the vicinity too, such as checking out old piles at the nearby National Trust properties Knightshayes Court and Killerton House, or spinning around at Coldharbour Mill.
The beaches of Somerset, Devon and Dorset are easily reached for days out, as are Exmoor National Park and family days out at Diggerland, Crealy Great Adventure Park and the model railway at Pecorama.
