General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

A site with lots of potential but failed to impress on our visit 07/09/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Matt D. Mobile phone icon Confirmed

  • 2 bedroom static caravan

  • Liked:

Good sized caravan and nice area, site looked tidy and attractive.

    Disliked:

    No free wifi code provided.
No access code provided for changing facilities by the swimming pool.
Swimming pool not child friendly with depth up to 2.3 metres and not clearly marked.
Swimming pool supposed to be heated but on a day where ambient temperatures were around 18 the pool itself was below 5 degrees Celsius.
Older caravan allocated to us with hinges and door trims coming loose and 2 light bulbs blown.
Shop opening times rarely adhered to and the range offered for the size of site was quite disappointing

From the manager...

There is a free WiFi code - the Code is Somerset with a capital S - all they needed to do was to ask.
The Swimming Pool is heated by a heat pump, we don't burn oil other than the first 10 days of the season just to get the warmth up to a reasonable heat, if the weather is cool then there is not a lot of heat we can extract out of the surrounding air - it was raining most of the time these customers were here.
Things like hinges are customer damage throughout the season, it is now the end of the season - these are things we repair once during the Winter ready for next year.
The shop is not manned all the time as we do not employ staff everything is done by the family, there is a notice outside the shop for customers to phone us if they need anything - they did not read this or try to phone.
I have written this before this is a family business we can't be everywhere at once.

Excellent value, lovely caravans, great location and swimming pool! 19/08/2017

Very big caravan; friendly and great value resort, lovely swimming pool. Amazing area, lovely pub up the road, useful little shop. We even saw loads of bats flying around!

    Disliked:

No private outside space (for bbqs etc) with the caravans. They are a little old, but this is only a small point - the place is excellent value - even in the school holidays!

Beautiful setting, nice flat pitches if a little small for our tent. Showers and bath good with plenty of hot water and cleaned religiously. I'm disabled and Mike always tries to make sure that I am close to the shower block, the staff are really helpful and friendly . The pool here is a delight, lovely and sheltered , well maintained and with sunbeds. A lovely place, well worth a visit.

    Disliked:

It was a little noisy this year, with someone playing music until very early hours but that was quickly dealt with. I feel that the site is perhaps outgrowing some of the facilities, could really do with another washer dryer in the laundry room.
My only other observation is that it would be good to have a small coffee shop, maybe at the pool? It's what is missing from this lovely place, and as its quite a way from anywhere, maybe a good idea. We also stayed on a site where they had an arrangement with a local bakery and took bread orders, it was really well used, and could perhaps be a good idea here, so the shop also needs updating a bit.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
