General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Quantock Orchard caravan park is in a nice location , ... 19/07/2017

Quantock Orchard caravan park is in a nice location , it is nice and clean and nice flower beds. The swimming pool was really nice and a perfect temperature. There are lots of nice trees and plenty of water and waste water points.

    Disliked:

Too much gravel and not enough grass on this camp site ! Most campers like gras.
The pitches are much too close together several other guests agreed on that one , really dangerous in case of fire ! I can't understand how they get away with it regards health and safety ?
The big winnebago motor home which looked like it was permanent on the site had music playing till 2.15AM and on the pitch surounding this motorhome it did really look like it was there permanently.
If it wasn't for these 3 items , i would score this site 5 out of 5

From the manager...

For tourists there are 6 hard standings and for grass pitch users there are 29 pitches so we can't really understand this comment contained within this review.
I think this reviewer is confused by our other activities we have on the park namely static caravans and seasonal pitches, these pitches are complete outside the touring market.
Our grass pitches are among the largest available in the industry we also have thick hedges between pitches these are there as a fire break in British Weather these can not burn.
To our knowledge we have never had a motorhome that plays music until the early morning and there are none here that are permanent, so we just don't understand where this review got these ideas from.

    Smell of bins

From the manager...

This reviewer visited the park during the time the hot weather reached over 30 degrees, in common with everyone these days we have a refuge collection every two weeks, the local council are talking about going to once every three week, we do our best with bins.
Here is another comment that is a result of Government policy beyond our control.

    Dog walking on road only

From the manager...

We have written this before in comments that are replies to reviews, we only have so much space on the park, it is far better to provide the greatest possible size to pitches that you can use, rather than waste space building a dog walk, hence the reason why the local lane is the dog walk,.

The caravan site as a whole was pretty great.
I had requested a quiet pitch and we were given just that - a lovely sized pitch too!
After reading the reviews I was somewhat dubious of what to expect, however it is clear that the bad reviews were false - as a family of 3 we loved it - our 5 year old daughter loved it. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at Quantock Orchard and would definitely go back.

The site was well maintained, the toilets and showers were regularly cleaned, the outdoor pool was cold but it was clean! albeit the games room is a little outdated but all in all it was a great trip.

    Disliked:

Small clean and friendly site. Nice swimming pool.

    Disliked:

    No local dog walk

From the manager...

Just to let you know there is a Dog walk, however the total space in the land area we feel should be used to make the pitches available as large as possible, this is a benefit that helps all customers not just those with dogs, so the arrangement is that the lane with very little traffic is used as the dog walk you can walk several miles down this lane before you reach a main road - better than anything we could provide in house.
otherwise a very good review 10/10

    Disliked:

the rant about supermarkets , if you want to complain have the decency to open your shop, and not on the odd occasion when it suits you. narrow entrance but manageable, The 2 big RVs that are there and managed to get in........,,have not moved for years as has the other caravans and awnings that are green and shabby.really spoils the site as they occupy the best places ,

From the manager...

It's not a rant about the Supermarkets, we came from the retail industry so we know what is going on. This is political I know but the Government should go out to level the playing field towards small family retailers, the high street is dying because nothing is being done. Governments should have a policy that reduces the tax cost specially for family businesses that off sets the buying power of the large companies, so the large companies pay more in tax than the small firms therefore allowing the small firms to sell at the same prices or less.
This issue has been festering within the retail industry since the end of RPM in 1964 and has not been addressed.
It should also have an arrangement that creates a restricted range of goods that only the small family businesses can sell at a fixed RPM price.
We have permission for 30 static caravans this project is going to take a number of years but is designed to level out the cash flow for the business so income is available all year round rather than just in the Summer six weeks.
At any one time we usually have up to four US RVs on the park these come and go, all of them are road worthy driven by people with HGV driving licences, there is not an issue getting them in and out of the park entrance as it is over 12 feet wide a normal caravan is seven and a half feet wide so the clearance four and a half feet more than enough for a good driver.

    Disliked:

Not very much in shop e.g. No bread etc

From the manager...

Just to comment on the review regarding the shop, we keep a basic stock of items that you may have forgotten to buy - the reason for this is that the supermarkets are so dominant in the UK that no trader these days feels it worth while investing in a vast amount of stock because even if we had as much stock as a Supermarket and offered it at a less price the public would still not buy because they are so brainwashed by the big companies - this is a result of past and present Government policies towards retailing by not ensuring a positive trading position to small suppliers.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
