The camping area

General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

Facilities/activities including Access to the gym are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Good site with excellent views. Disabled facilities need improving. 14/05/2019

Peaceful and quiet, separated play area for children.

    Disliked:

Showers had shared drainage so you got your neighbors dirty water over your own feet

From the manager...

The design/layout of the toilet block is as we took it over when we purchased the park, we are therefore unable to change these features.
We would regard this a very minor point.

We have just returned from a fantastic, relaxing stay in our camper van at Quantock Orchard camping site. We originally went for three nights, meeting up with friends, loved it so much stayed for 6 nights.
The facilities were good, campsite had a French feel about it, spacious pitches with a bush separating pitches to give privacy.
Pool, not open at time of stay, but we look forward to using it later in the year on a return visit. Steam railway and public bus close to site entrance, bonus.
Mike the owner was very friendly and more than generous. Nick worked tirelessly to keep the site and facilities clean and tidy.
    We look forward to returning.

Compact park in a nice part of Somerset. 22/04/2019

The location is good. The site shop is small but had most of the essentials and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was plenty of hot water for showers and the layout of the site was good, with a nice selection of different size and shape pitches, although it would have been nice to be able to pick our own pitch as the pitch we were allocated was rather small.

    Disliked:

The toilet block was not as clean as it should have been given the rating of the site. The floors were regularly cleaned but there was plenty of mold and dirt which made the facilities feel a bit grubby. It looked like some of the caravans on the seasonal pitches were being lived in which meant part of the park had the feel of a gypsy site. During our visit, three police cars and a police van came onto the site and arrested one of the 'residents'. Clearly this isn't the fault of the site owner but it just added to the feeling that this park is a fading flower, in need of a bit of TLC to bring it back to what was clearly once a top quality site.

From the manager...

We clean the toilet block twice a day so the remake about the toilet block is unfair and not true.
In the Winter it's true we take a lot of contractors from the local power station - so do all the other parks in the area, without these customers the park would not survive financially, people have to remember there is not enough touring guests to cover the park's costs until July and August each year - we have to do what is in the best interests of the park as a business.
The Police cars where there not to arrest someone but passing through on their way to another 'job' normally there would have been one car they come to see if we are ok this is quite normal . They came and asked my permission to bring the vehicles onto the park, they were on their way to Minehead to deal with a problem there, My Wife and I are both Street Pastors we patrol parts of Minehead we know there are serious problems on one estate there.

I liked the countryside environment and birdsong. The games room offered children some space to relax and enjoy playing pool and ping pong (I would recommend bringing your own equipment). The staff were very polite and the facilities were heated which made night trips to them more comfortable.

    Disliked:

It would be nice if dog owners could have more freedom to let their animals roam in a 'free area' perhaps or have more options for them to walk the dogs out into the countryside without having to drive them to the nearest 'lead free' environment.

From the manager...

We don't allow people to have their dogs off the lead on the park, because of the safety of the children.
There is one area where dogs can be let off the lead and that is in the National Park at the top of the Quantock Hills.
In other places off the Park dogs must be kept on the lead because the farmers in the area have livestock. Farmers have been known to shoot on site so it's not a good idea anyway.

The location and children's play area 19/04/2019

The location and children's play area

    Disliked:

The fridge in the caravan had been 'newly painted'. The caravan was cold upon arrival and needed a new gas canister. The electricity switched off on our first night, of two, at 10pm till 6am which was freezing, especially with a 6 month old baby. There was no information pack so locating who to contact when there was an issue proved to be difficult. The shop wasn't open during the day...I tried 4 times on the first day, the contact telephone number given was not answered...call later returned in the evening...which was too late

From the manager...

This customer brought the problem on themselves, our statics have a reduced amp current supply for safety reasons, that's why we ask customers not to use normal household rated electrical items. This customer tried to use a normal household baby milk warmer, THE SYSTEM WILL think there is a fault and throw the rcd.
aS THIS HAPPENED AFTER CLOSING TIME AT THE END OF THE WORKING DAY WE COULD NOT SWITCH IT BACK ON UNTIL THE MORNING.
we turn the phone system off at 9PM to give our staff and the family some semblance of a normal life.
Except in the later have of July and August plus Bank Holidays we do not open the shop but we will open if any one phones and request this.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
