The camping area

General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

Facilities/activities including Access to the gym are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Shop not always open , had to ring if wanted to buy something

From the manager...

we do not man the shop except during later half of July and August, there is not enough demand to justify it.
the other thing we do is that we do not open the swimming pool if its raining.

The whole park was good nice clean nice and friendly staff area is good nice to take a walk with the dogs, has a pub which is dog friendly which is about 10 mins walk, food was great, very yummy.

    Disliked:

Not much in the camp shop

From the manager...

We keep the basic things that you may need, Milk, Clover, Eggs, Drinks, Cheese, Kellogs Packs, Tin food, cuppa Soup;. Tin Soup; Wine, Beer, Children's Sweets,, Toys and Models, Books, some camp equipment, Batteries, Ice Cream and so on.
However everyone has to understand the shop is not a supermarket, it's run as a non-profit service with stock purchased at the local Spar shop on a daily basis.
In these days with the supermarkets offering a delivery service (which are banned from coming onto the park) the days of an all purpose Park shop are well and truly over.

From the manager...

We have had the interior repaneled with new plastic cladding, this has a life of 20 years, until that date is passed there will be no further investment in the shower block.

    Disliked:

Looking tired. Shower block was cold and not always clean.

From the manager...

we keep the shower block spotless so this comment is not really true,- perhaps someone made a mess overnight and of course it could not be cleared up as there is no one on duly once past 7.30 PM in the evening if true it would have been cleaned up in the morning.
However on the night this customer was there, there was a general power cut due to the weather in the area, the combi boilers have to be switched back on in the morning by a staff member (they do not come back on when the power comes back on) - , as there is no one on duty after hours, I did this myself before I drove to Williton to get the shop stock at 8.30 AM.
When we get power cuts this is totally beyond our control.

The owners are friendly and the guy who cleans works very hard. The pitches make you feel like you’re on holiday in France. The pool is lovely and a sun trap. The pitches are lovely and grassy. The site is incredibly quiet at night. (Has restores my faith in British camping after having some recent disasters!) the pub at Triscombe is amazing! We also walked a back road safe way to the pub in Crowcombe

Toilet and shower block was in need of an update and were dirty.

From the manager...

WE repaneled in insides of the toilets recently so this comment is not really right.
we clean the toilets twice a day, over bank holidays guests do make a mess which we understand and clear up as soon as we can.
perhaps someone had been in just before him/her and we had not the time to clear it up.
We always keep these facilities as clean as possible as soon as possible.

Peaceful and quiet, separated play area for children.

    Disliked:

Showers had shared drainage so you got your neighbors dirty water over your own feet

From the manager...

The design/layout of the toilet block is as we took it over when we purchased the park, we are therefore unable to change these features.
We would regard this a very minor point.

We have just returned from a fantastic, relaxing stay in ... 13/05/2019

We have just returned from a fantastic, relaxing stay in our camper van at Quantock Orchard camping site. We originally went for three nights, meeting up with friends, loved it so much stayed for 6 nights.
The facilities were good, campsite had a French feel about it, spacious pitches with a bush separating pitches to give privacy.
Pool, not open at time of stay, but we look forward to using it later in the year on a return visit. Steam railway and public bus close to site entrance, bonus.
Mike the owner was very friendly and more than generous. Nick worked tirelessly to keep the site and facilities clean and tidy.
    We look forward to returning.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
