General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Good location but needs updating 10/04/2018

    Hot showers. Location

    Disliked:

Unfortunately only stayed one night as found the site extremely unkempt.

From the manager...

We are trying to repair the great deal of damage done by the storms, anything outside will be in a damaged state this was completely beyond our control, and an allowance should be made for this otherwise a comment like this is extremely un-fair.
In side is another matter and this was liked by this customer - hot showers and so on.

The storms have blown the trees, bushes and other plants about, and damaged the internal roads. Customers have destroyed the surface of the internal roads and the pitches with their tyres - we estimate it going to take a few weeks at least to clear up.

Ai least we were open as the other parks in the area were closed as they were flooded out and water logged.

    Location

    Disliked:

Poor welcome. Overnight powercut with no explanation. Need to chase around to find out if power outage has been resolved. Muddy grass pitch when hardstanding had been booked.

From the manager...

This area had the worst of the Easter storm, the other Parks in the area were all closed due to being water logged. There was a general power cut in the area due to the bad weather completely out of our control, so this was not our fault, so that comment was totally unfair.
As in previous reviews WE DO NOT GUARANTEE HARD STANDINGS, I have altered the description on the pitch types to be all grass for all types of booking, if you would like to request a hard standing in future you must telephone us direct after you make your booking on pitch-up and request this, it will not be guaranteed but subject to availability, the general rule is the longer the booking will get you the first option, if you stay a week at a time then this will be more likely.
With regard to the welcome we are in the middle of the winter season still - it is very likely the shop will be closed, however we will see you come in from the office in the house, if you phone we will come to meet you in a few minutes. At this time of the year a comment like this is unfair, it would a different matter in July and August, but not now.

    Constant availability of hot water.

    Disliked:

Poor cleanliness of the toilet, shower block.

From the manager...

We are still in the middle of Winter/Early Spring, we don't have the staff yet to do everything at once, we keep the toilet block to the highest possible standard as far as sanitary is concerned but in the Winter because the weather is still wet we can't deal with people's muddy feet more than once a day. The staff are spending all their time painting, repairing the infrastructure of the park getting it ready for the Summer Season, I think people have to be fair and understanding with a small family business we don't have the hands to go round.
The good news is that the internal roads are now pot hole free, this was completed this weekend, the bad weather this year has given us quite a beating - next two weeks the work is to deal with the access road - this does illustrate what we are up against there are only so many hours in the day with the staff we have available.
Please be fair and understanding the situation will be quite different in two months time as we are working towards a target date.

Thank you very much for this super review.
to let everyone know the Winter repair work is now progressing, the paintwork around the entrance has been completed, the toilet block and shop have been painted inside and out
Work still to be done by the end of March is painting the leisure centre inside and out, and repairs to the Park's roads.
We have ordered new mattresses for the static caravans and one of the vans is to have new carpets.

    Quite site basic services

    Disliked:

To many potholes on site warden just waved us on to pitch no book in or check to see if we needed help in locateing services

From the manager...

Please - we are in the dead of the Winter, we run single handed in the Winter as we can't really do more than we did, it's quite unfair to expect any more at this time of the year.
It will be a different matter when the Summer comes.
This year has been very wet with a great number of storms, it has played hell with the roads, this is something that we are going to address as soon as the weather starts to settle down, but it's pointless doing it now as the weather will only wash the stones out again as soon as we put them in.
We are a small site it should not be a problem finding things as everything is marked up with signs, customers really don't need out help.

The handy man was very helpful.

    Disliked:

The site was very tired. Old facilities. We asked for hard standing and got grass. The pitch was too small for our van. No dog walk. Shop never open. No information sheet.

From the manager...

This was at a time when very few parks are open, we run in the Winter will the absolute bare minimum staff and ground work, so these comments are not fair as it was winter and not during the time when the great majority of visitors are with us.
So please don't the conditions in the dead of Winter will be the same in times when the weather will be far better.
Keeping a Park in good condition in the winter when there are high winds and very cold conditions are impossible.
We never guarantee hard standings , and our pitches will take PVs up to 35 feet long, there was not a van on site over the period this customer was there, so again this comment is unfair.

it was a well equipped site with a laid back vibe. Very well situated with stunning walks just a short drive away. The staff were welcoming and happy to help!
It was cold, but we did visit in December! I couldn't access the wifi and the bed wasn't the most comfortable but the shower was warm and the caravan spacious, so over all - a winner. Not the lap of luxury, but well kitted out and comfortable. Would book again.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

Coming from the furniture I think it's a good idea to explain the completely different design of the beds in these static caravans. In a household bed there are springs in both the base and in the mattress, on a static caravan bed only the mattress has springs , this will result in a firmer sleep.
We can only provide what the caravan supplier designs into the unit, with this in mind please don't expect hotel comfort as this is not possible.

Friendly, peaceful, clean. Our electric went off on our first night the owners were fantastic & got it up & running in no time, they were so helpful. It is a short walk or drive to the steam railway.

    Disliked:

A bit disappointed that I payed for hardstanding but was told I would be put onto a grass pitch because the motorhomes needed the hardstandings.... the pitch we had we couldn't get a tv reception as we were under power lines. The map that you get I think should have the phone number for the house on it & the wardens caravan marked on it.

From the manager...

The MV pitches are offered as mixed type pitches that is either type as available.
There is a notice on the shop door in both English and German for customers who need our help to come to the house and ring the door bell, you can't miss the house by the main gate.

    Peaceful location

Water leak in roof too the kitchen shower did not work properly had too use external showers

From the manager...

On the night in question we had the strongest storm possible the combination of the strong winds lifted the skylight slightly and the wind drove the rain water in - in view of the weather conditions this really could not he helped, due to the good condition of these vans there was not further damage.
Our staff inspected the shower and could not find anything wrong with it, it worked perfectly.
However as this is a quality park we do have fully heated wash rooms available including a bathroom which as far as I know not other park has this.
It should be remembered that a static holiday home is not a hotel it is what it is.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
