General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Facilities/activities including Access to the gym are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

From the manager...

We do our best so everyone is happy.
During the winter, even though everything is open, the shop and reception will no be open, please when you arrive please phone us and we will meet you.
if you need anything from the shop again please shop us and we will open it for you, it will be fully stocked even though it's outwardly closed.
this is very normal we know this because we visit many other parks as we transport touring caravan during the Winter, so if you need anything towed please contact us.

Pitches to close together.had to wander round trying to find someone to book me in

From the manager...

We are using double pitch sizes in September so the pitches are twice the size you need, pitch 45 for example which is normally two pitches is approx. 50 ft X 25 ft in September - so this reviewer is not really telling the truth.
We can't take on extra staff for touring because with the school holidays as they are, the need for extra people is three and half weeks out of fifty two weeks - it's not cost effective and not justified. we therefore do not staff the reception or the shop off season, but we know when people arrive through a security system we will always come and find you.

Relaxed atmosphere. Location, close to Quantocks, steam railway., and great pub -Carew Arms.

    Disliked:

Carew Arms is in walking distance but A358 has no footpath - take a cab!

From the manager...

There is a safe way to walk to the Carew Arms.
Out of our gate, turn right on the main road (there is a grass verge that way),
left into the Triscombe Turning, walk to the end of the Village take the lane opposite the former Pub, walk along that lane, turn left at the first turning, down that lane until you reach the next lane, then right walking into Crowcombe Village, the Carew Arms is on the left hand side opposite the Post Office.
I did give this customer a map and explained this, perhaps they did not understand.

Loved the swimming pool. My kids loved it too! Really pretty site. Kids loved the park. The baby shower room was brilliant. Owner of the site was very friendly and old school which I like :). The whole campsite was nice and old school too and made me feel like I used to when camping as a kid with my family. Exactly how camping should be! The shop was ok. The kids loved the sweet selection in there. Could do with selling bread and meat maybe but maybe it was all sold out when I went into the shop but wasn’t a problem tbh as Asda isn’t too far away. Just all in all a lovely family holiday and I am looking right now at booking another weekend this month. Can’t wait to return! I think I’ve found our new holiday destination :). Only just found out via other reviews that there is WiFi. Can’t comment on that as I didn’t know they had it lol but mobile signal strength is excellent (I’m on 02) so WiFi didn’t really matter to me anyway. And tbh I hardly even got my phone out anyway because I was too busy doing the things you should do on a camping trip. Back to basics and playing outside!

    Disliked:

From the manager...

We do sell Bread and other basic things like Milk, Butter/spread, Jams, Bake Beans, other tin items, Sweets, Crips, Cheese and Eggs..
We can't sell meat because it's not packaged and has a short sell by date, and we would not be able to sell you Bacon for other reasons.
The WiFi pass word is 'Somerset' with a capital letter.

    Swimming pool good for children
    Helpful owner

    Disliked:

We thought it came with bedding but we had to pay an extra £50 so made it quite expensive should be stated more clearly
Not centrally heated or double glazed
    Not a dog walk
Curtains tatty and did not pull easily
    Fridge broken shelves
Tv could not get to work

From the manager...

The Pitchup conditions make it clear that bedding is an extra.
also we only offer 'standard' statics on the Pitchup booking system these do not have central heating or double glazing.
the issue with the fridge and curtains are something that we deal with every year in the Autumn to get the vans ready for next year - we are right at the end of the season, customers do quite a lot of damage through wear and tear during the Summer months, these things are repaired off season.
The TV did work it was just that the customer did not understand how to use it.

well worth a visit 29/08/2018

Bit of a tight entrance for big caravan so just be careful.
First impression was wow! lovely entrance, well kept, flowers were out in full bloom, grass is short and this looks like it is a site well kept and we were not wrong.
There was no one at reception when we first arrived as neither shop or reception is always manned (thats ok) there is a telephone number for anyone to call that arrives and there was a clear list on the door with your surname on it showing where the pitch was (although some people like me are useless at reading maps). As soon as we were spotted we received a warm welcome and booked in, given a local map and directed to our pitch.
Facilities on site were just what you would need, toilets, showers, washing up area, laundry area, games room all well kept and were regularly cleaned and maintained my only negative which isnt really a negative its my opinion is maybe they a little outdated and could do with a makeover. the shop was well stocked and if there was something they didnt have there is a village shop just down the road and its also not far to get to all the big supermarkets if you really want, due to our circumstances we had given a list of requirements and I have to say they met all of our requests.
The water areas were a bit of a mare on the first day as filling water barrels when not at ground level were very heavy and on the first day I got soaked as the tap squirted everywhere, however we got a pipe and attached to the tap and could then fill in whilst they were on the ground. same for the waste to lift a heavy waste pot but we managed and hey that adds to the fun of caravanning and camping and was probably more my inexperience as it was our second time in the caravan!
The ground wasnt as big as I thought it was going to be, there is a lovely play area for kids and it was lovely to see so many kids riding around on their bikes and having fun in a safe environment. unfortunately we didnt have time to check out the pool so I cant comment on that but it all looked clean and tidy and there were plenty of towels on sunbeds reserving the best spots!!
There werent any dog excercising areas within the ground but my two dogs were more than happy and content, there are lovely walks you can go on nearby, we took the dogs on the steam train as well.
we didnt have wi-fi but we didnt ask for the password which we could have done or maybe it was an oversight on our part - we know it was available on site.
As a family we really liked it here and we will return.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

The warmth is there because we run our lives and the park in the Judeo/Christian tradition the example given shows the value of that tradition.
I was very pleased that this customer gave us a really good review, while they were here we did not think they were going to be that positive but we gave them no special treatment, we do this for every customer.

Facilities good. Showers hot. Washing up area good. Nice break out area/wet weather room.

    Disliked:

The only real thing was the pool is very deep for young children. Also road traffic noise.

From the manager...

The shallow end of the pool is about 1 metre deep this extends to about 50% of the length then there is a drop off to the deep end. The boundary is clearly marked so it's safe for children unless they are very small, in which case there should be an adult with them.
The is notice to say that all children must have an adult with them if they use the pool, we are noticing that parents are leaving children in the pool area and then going back to their tents/caravans this is an unsafe practice and against the park's rules.
There is very little traffic noise our house is between the caravan park and the main road and we can't hear a thing due to the fact there is a large earth bank and tall thick hedge which removes all traffic noise.

Michael was very helpful if sometimes a little hard to get hold of (he is very busy). Pool was great and me and my youngest loved it but it wasn't heated enough for my wife (she likes it tropical). Pitch was a good size and amenities were close and clean. Shop had non perishable essentials (wine lol). Lovely and close to the steam railway station and often heard the whistle throughout the day. Supermarket was a 10 minute drive away.

    Disliked:

No pub an safe walking distance.

From the manager...

The are two pubs in the area, both walkable. however the nearest is currently closed due to an alleged disagreement between the landlord and the tenant, the second one has a safe route that you can use to walk to it, maps for this are available from the office.

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
