The camping area

General

  • Beautiful grounds and top-notch on-site facilities
  • Adventure playground, table tennis and video games room for kids
  • Pool, gym, sauna and steam room available

The pristine perfection of this park has earned plaudits aplenty, including ‘Best Site in the West of England’. Encircled by the beautiful Quantock Hills, its views are pretty flawless too..

The facilities at Quantock Orchard Caravan Park are extensive, and as well manicured as the grounds. There’s an outdoor pool open May to September, and a decent-sized gym, which also houses a sauna and steam room for visitors to bubble and steam away their cares. Plus a well-provisioned shop, wifi, and good essential amenities, including plenty of service points for motorhomes, water and so forth. Little monkeys can scale, swing and slide their way around the adventure playground, or have a go at pool, table tennis and the video games in the games room. The owners also welcome tail waggers, provided they’re kept on a lead.

Please note

Facilities/activities including Access to the gym are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 24/05 and 20/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Good site, but staff not bothered. 18/02/2019

Easy to find, good directions. Quiet site with good size pitches. No extra charge for dogs. Children’s play area was well kept. Clean facilities bu5 a bit tired.

    Disliked:

No one on reception so rang the number on door and a chap came out to meet us. Gave us choice of a few pitches, but no information relating to the site, where facilities were or anything.
Disliked that many pitches were under trees and that seasonal storage was mixed in with tourers....made it look run down as many were filthy and looked ‘dumped’.
Advertised with wifi around reception area but not given any WiFi code.

From the manager...

There is a very simple reason why there is only a very small number of staff on duty at this time of the year.
It can't be expected that the shop should be open all the time in February when we get only one or two arrivals per day, this customer for example only booked one night.
As there is no other tourist income we take a lot of storage on at this time of the year we have obtain an income from somewhere to pay our cost of operation.
This customer phoned me to ask for the pass word so that part of the review is just not true.

Ease of booking, pitching and hookup.

Very convenient for the West Somerset Railway. Clean water right there and loos/showers very convenient. Only there the one night but all good as far as we were concerned.

The showers in the main block were excellent (can't comment on secondary ones as we didn't use them).

Looks like the site has a pool which would make it a good summer location too, and also a games room for kids/families.

    Disliked:

    No complaints!

Excellent value for our New Year stay! 02/01/2019

Fab views! Easy to find. Quiet and peaceful. Very generous pitch size and great to have water and electricity within easy reach. Shower excellent pressure and hot! Very close to West Somerset Railway station for awesome steam train ride to Minehead! Nice touch to have a games room though need to bring your own table tennis bats/balls (presumably available from reception if it is open?). Good information on the area. Microwaves available in dishwashing area.

    Disliked:

Facilities look a little faded and in need of updating. Very dark at night! Not easy to reach shops or pub unless driving as main road dangerous. Would be good to have drive over motorhome area as this makes it much easier to drop waste water.

From the manager...

There is a drive over waste water drop, this customers only have to ask where this is.
We have lights everywhere and they are left on all night, the electric bill reflects this - very high.
we do not open the shop in the Winter but there are notices outside who to phone if you need anything.

Location, cleanliness, staff, peacefulness. Nick the manager couldnt do enough to help me try and get my ageing Talbot going, eventually had a battery delivered to site and all ended well!

Nice little spot for relaxing and is kept very clean. There are a couple of ways to walk to the pub without using the main road and good acces by foot to the Quantocks

Directions

Exit at Junction 25, then at the roundabout take the fourth exit onto the A358 signposted Taunton. Follow the A358 west around the outskirts of Taunton. The route is well marked with signs for West Somerset Railway and Butlins.

Continue following the A358 west route until you reach the Cross Keys pub near the roundabout. Take the second exit onto the A358 and follow this road for 8-9 miles (12km). After Flaxpool Garage take the next left. The park entrance is immediately on the left-hand side.

Local attractions

After stuffing themselves silly in one of the foodie pubs nearby, guests can hire mountain bikes or take a hike through the glorious landscapes surrounding the park, with eyes peeled for the local wildlife, which includes Quantock ponies and red deer. There are also loads of options for golfing, fishing and horse riding in the area.

Buses run to many places around and about, but many visitors choose to let the train take the strain instead. A gentle saunter from the park is Crowcombe Heathfield Station, one of the stops on the scenic West Somerset heritage railway, whose buff engines steam through miles of lovely views to the coastal town of Minehead.

Naturally speaking, there are all sorts of interesting geographical phenomena to discover: brutally beautiful Exmoor, the plunging Cheddar Gorge, fossils and rock formations at Kilve beach, and Wookey Hole’s underground caves and lakes. Those who enjoy poking around posh country piles should check out Dunster Castle, and the beautiful gardens at Hestercombe House.
