General

  • Next to a family-oriented pub in Lydford-on-Fosse
  • Convenient for visiting Glastonbury, Bath and the Wookey Hole Caves
  • Pub serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and hosting live music

A pub – with beer garden – in Somerset: how smashing. And even more splendid, The Cross Keys Inn is about 10 miles from Glastonbury if you're in the south-west to see the Tor or get muddied up at the fest, and is niftily set for other top highlights like Bath, Wells and the Wookey Hole Caves, all under 10 miles away.

The pub is in the Somerset village of Lydford-on-Fosse, between Yeovil and Glastonbury. It has two bars, an open fire and wifi, and serves breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as real ales. Live music events are occasionally hosted in the Cross Keys function room, which opens out onto the beer garden.

Facilities in the camping field include drinking water, a chemical disposal point, a recycling area, toilets and showers.
When you're off to explore the many tiptop highlights of Somerset and the south-west, the A303 is a quick three-minute drive away.

The Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The food was really nice, flavoursome and served well.
A good range of artisan ciders and ales on offer.
    A nice warm atmosphere.

    Disliked:

    The showers.
There was not adequate drainage for the water in the shower changing rooms and there was no mop available to soak up any water excess which you finf at other campsites. It is quite cold in the shower block.
It is understandable that a grass pitch will be affected by heavy rain however a hard standing should not be. As we reversed in to the hard standing our wheels sank into the soft ground, making it slightly difficult to drive out.

Great pub with excellent food & well worth an overnight stay. 22/01/2018

Absolutely fab pub with friendly staff! Chunky oak tables, stone floors, open fire & a couple of relaxing Chesterfield sofas. A great choice of real ales & farm house ciders as well as draught lagers & beers. Food was excellent & had a super menu with a mixture of traditional pub grub, steaks & a delicious selection from the specials board. But make sure you book a table as it gets very busy for food.

We were in our motorhome & unfortunately due to the torrential rain we couldn't park in the camping field as we would have been stuck in the mud, but we parked in the overflow car park which has got a few hook ups so we were on hard standing. The toilet & shower block was very basic but it was clean & adequate for an overnight stay. There is also a chemical waste disposal & grey waste disposal point which was a bonus.

    Disliked:

Free wifi in the pub but unfortunately you can't pick it up from the camping area.

Local attractions

It's under 10 miles to some excellent and famed Somerset destinations, including Glastonbury Tor and Abbey (six miles), the teeny city of Wells (eight miles) and the fably spooky Wookey Hole Caves (nine miles).

You'll also be a speedy five miles from the huge collection of military and civilian craft at Ilchester's Fleet Air Arm Museum, which houses the biggest naval aviation collection of helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in Europe, and nine from the 400 or so cars and motorbikes at Sparkford's Haynes International Motor Museum. This latter takes family fun most seriously, and lays on a range of activities for the under-fours, ages four to 12, and teens.

The Royal Bath and West Showground is seven miles away at Shepton Mallet: head here for events and shows, flea markets, and the famed Royal Bath & West Show, highlighting the best of British farming, culture and produce. Toddle along to it if you're around in late May/early June, to see the British Cider Championships and the British Cheese Awards, and sample as much produce as poss from 125 food producers.

And then there's Bath, the famed and handsome city that's one of only three in Britain to have UNESCO World Heritage status (Liverpool and Edinburgh are the others, but of course you knew that…). Drive the 20 or so miles to here for sights such as The Roman Baths complex, Bath Abbey and the Jane Austen Centre.
