General

  • Luxury bell tents and XXL hammocks in the spectacular Mendip Hills
  • With views over the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury Tor
  • Double bed, logburner, picnic table and more for each tent

Luxury canvas camping indeed... Moor View Luxury Canvas Camping atop the Mendip hills has everything ticked for a smashing Somerset hol: spectacular scenery, a village (and pub) a short stroll down the road, spotless amenities, and bell tents so well and prettily kitted out that former guests have already lauded this luxury locale as 'divine', 'wonderful', 'fabulous' and 'a little piece of heaven'…

Moor View is a small, luxurious and scenically set wildflower meadow site, on top of the Mendip Hills surrounded by fields, farms and Somerset countryside, and with spectacular views over Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels. It's a short stroll from here to the pretty village of Priddy and its pubs, walks and summer events on the village green.

Each bell tent is fully kitted out for luxury breaks, with a comfy double bed already made up, two bedside tables, deckchairs, a picnic table, a coolbox and a logburner with bag of logs included. Just outside, a kitchen with grill pan for alfresco cooking is exclusive to each bell tent.

And you may have already spotted the hammocks in the site pics...? There's one for each bell tent, at an XXL size for properly sprawling (do commandeer someone else to regularly hand you your drink/s for maximum relaxation).

Also on site are a communal provision tent with a fridge and freezer; a composting toilet; a proper gas powered outdoor hot shower, and the Toy Shed, full of outdoor games and toys to keep the kids amused.

Local produce is available to buy on site; for more supplies, the Priddy farm shop sells food for the barbie as well as serving breakfast. The village's Queen Victoria pub serves food throughout the day.

The location was beautiful and very peaceful, nice small meadow with only 3 other tents. All the camping amenities all there onsite (fire pit with grill and pan, cooking equipment and cutlery). The shed had a fridge freezer which was really useful. The showers were very powerful and hot. The toilets were very clean.

The bell tent was amazing and the furnishing were brilliantly done and made it such a unique comfortable camping experience.
Site owners were superbly friendly but not in your face. Site was clean, views were incredible and location was stunning.
Loved the outdoor shower but would have preferred a solid door not just a shower curtain.

    Disliked:

Unsure about the composting loos. They were fine when we were the only family onsite but when more families arrived on the sat the loos soon became s bit smelly and in need of emptying. BUT I am sure that the site owners are taking these types of things into consideration as they are very new to the Glamping game. They seemed very on the ball about what needed altering.

We loved the camp site and the interior of our tent was wonderful, It was exactly what we wanted from a weekend get away! The weather was awful but we had a stove in the tent which was lovely and kept us warm and dry. The utilities shed was great with fantastic amenities (kettle, toaster, microwave & fridge) The location of this site is perfect, we enjoyed long walks around ebbor gorge and a visit to wooky hole.

    Disliked:

We arrived at approx. 7:30pm on Friday to find our tent was not yet ready for us, although the lovely owner was very apologetic we found this frustrating as we had driven along way and wanted to settle in. However she recommended we go to the local pub, so we went for dinner and on our return the tent was set up with all the candles lit looking lovely!

We loved the bell tent, beautifully decorated with lovely furniture.
We loved having our own fire pit - a must for us when we are camping. It was great that it doubled up as a BBQ/ cooking stove.
The communal fire pit was great too - had a great last night with other campers.
The provisions shed with fridge, kettle and toaster was good to have.
We loved the fact that it is a small site with only 4 tents.
Adam and Kathryn were great, friendly and helpful, and our children loved playing with their kids.
The compost loo was ok, but a bit frustrating that not everyone knew how to use it properly.
The outside shower was a novelty and the water was nice and hot.
The location is great, the campsite is tucked away on a peaceful road, with plenty to do locally

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike - however we stayed for a week, which meant we experienced rain as well as plenty of sunshine. Extra shelter for when it rains would be great. We discussed this with Adam and he said he was planning to work on this. That's why we've give 9 out of 10 (everything else would score a 10 for us)

Local attractions

This Somerset setting is tiptop for outdoorsy days and long lazy wanders among an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overlooking the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor and the City of Wells. Famed south-west attractions like Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and Wells are all within easy driving distance.

Walks lead straight from the site gates – ask the Moor View Luxury Canvas Camping owners for their recommendations depending on your length of walk and level of ability – and Cheddar Gorge and the Wookey Hole Caves are within five minutes' drive.

The splendid little city of Wells is at the bottom of the hill and is highly recommended to see its cathedral and Bishops Palace as well as have a wander around its shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Somerset Levels are a birdwatching haven: if this floats your Somerset boat, flit over to the RSPB reserve at West Sedgemoor which has the biggest lowland population of breeding wading birds in southern England.
