Moor View Luxury Canvas Camping: Each tent comes with a brazier and outdoor kitchen set (grill, pan and cooking pot)

General

  • Luxury bell tents and XXL hammocks in the spectacular Mendip Hills
  • With views over the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury Tor
  • Double bed, logburner, picnic table and kitchen for each tent

Luxury canvas camping indeed… Moor View Luxury Canvas Camping atop the Mendip hills has everything ticked for a smashing Somerset hol: spectacular scenery, a village (and pub) a short stroll down the road, spotless amenities, and bell tents so well and prettily kitted out that former guests have already lauded this luxury locale as 'divine', 'wonderful', 'fabulous' and 'a little piece of heaven'…

Moor View is a small, luxurious and scenically set wildflower meadow site, on top of the Mendip Hills surrounded by fields, farms and Somerset countryside, and with spectacular views over Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels. It's a short stroll from here to the pretty village of Priddy and its pubs, walks and summer events on the village green.

Each bell tent is fully kitted out for luxury breaks, with a comfy double bed already made up, two bedside tables, deckchairs, a picnic table, a coolbox and a logburner with bag of logs included. Just outside, a kitchen with grill pan for alfresco cooking is exclusive to each bell tent.

And you may have already spotted the hammocks in the site pics…? There's one for each bell tent, at an XXL size for properly sprawling (do commandeer someone else to regularly hand you your drink/s for maximum relaxation). Also on site are a communal provision tent with a fridge and freezer; a composting toilet; a proper gas-powered outdoor hot shower, and the Toy Shed, full of outdoor games and toys to keep the kids amused.

Local produce is available to buy on site; for more supplies, the Priddy farm shop sells food for the barbie as well as serving breakfast. The village's Queen Victoria pub serves food throughout the day.

    Disliked:

Smelly toilets. Owner seemed stressed and fed up but it was unbearably hot weather which may be why. Lack of shade. Lack of local streams and rivers to cool down in.

Beds comfortable only 4 tents so quite nice furnishings, hot shower

    Disliked:

Log burner sisnt work smoke all came into the tent, when we arrived tent wasn't ready when we asked for logs to cook on at 0500pm we was told I will get around to it I have 1 more tent to get ready, when I explained I needed to get the young children dinner ready they got us some there and then we was initially provided with 3 matches to light log burner candles and campfire to cook on was provided with more when asked. games she'd only consists of bats (no balls) and Friday. Kitchen facilities were minimal and dirty, and only one sink to wash and brush teeth and and to wash up which we found difficult to negotiate with other campers.
We paid to stay 2 nights but only stayed 1. The advert over sells facilities and equipment available so we came very unprepared. We played over 100 pounds more for this particular site over others in the area because it advertised facilities, games shed and log burner. All which which lacked or did not work. Have since tried to contact the site to recover lost items have never answered or returned voicemail.

From the manager...

I'm so sorry to hear Paul that your stay wasn't what you expected but as I explained on arrival that we were a bit behind due to a large group hiring us for the weekend. I was generous with the logs and kindling and gave a full net of each. I apologise for missing checking the matches but I did give a full box later in the day.
I can only imagine that children have lost the balls that were previously out in the games tub which consists of bats, boules, kids sacks for sack races and croquet.
I'm sorry but I haven't had any missed messages about your left items and endeavour to return all left items from tents within a month of their stay but do remind people to check under beds and pillows for toys etc. I will be sending the pyjamas in the post to you.
I'm sorry you struggled with the log burner but we do supply firelighters and do ask people to only use kindling inside, large logs outside and not glossy leaflets that often create a lots of smoke.

Local attractions

This Somerset setting is tiptop for outdoorsy days and long lazy wanders among an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overlooking the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor and the city of Wells. Famed south-west attractions like Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and Wells are all within easy driving distance.

Walks lead straight from the site gates – ask the Moor View Luxury Canvas Camping owners for their recommendations depending on your length of walk and level of ability – and Cheddar Gorge and the Wookey Hole Caves are within five minutes' drive.

The splendid little city of Wells is at the bottom of the hill and is highly recommended to see its cathedral and Bishops Palace as well as have a wander around its shops, pubs and restaurants.

The Somerset Levels are a birdwatching haven: if this floats your Somerset boat, flit over to the RSPB reserve at West Sedgemoor which has the biggest lowland population of breeding wading birds in southern England.
