General

  • Family-run site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Steps away from the beach
  • Pool, sauna and summer restaurant/entertainment

Views, glorious views…the area surrounding near Minehead is the setting for right Somerset sights: the park is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the Quantock Hills, is on the Somerset coast, steps from the beach and has views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. Bring your camera.

St Audries Bay has been family-owned and run since 1933 and has picked up a goodly handful of awards along the way, so it’s safe to assume they know what to lay on for campers of all ages whatever the weather: among the options on offer are tennis, boules, fishing, an adventure playground, pool with sauna (a small extra charge applies for the sauna), and games room with video games, snooker and pool tables.

Entertainment is laid on during July and August, and restaurant and bar meals, takeaways and tipples are available during these months in the Sundowner bar. Or head off site instead: once you’ve hiked the Quantock Hills, both Bridgwater and Taunton are on the M5 15 miles away and Exmoor National Park is nearby.

Pitches at St Audries Bay are spacious and level, and are a short distance away from the toilet and shower block with free washrooms.

Please note that outside July and August the restaurant, bar and entertainment are only open at certain times: please check with the reception team when you arrive for more information and opening times.

Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award

Please note

The indoor swimming pool is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

Outside July and August, the bar and restaurant are open on weekends only.

Very pleasant site Warden was extremely helpful and friendly, site is well managed and kept very clean and tidy, restaurant food was very good all staff was helpful, the site itself had wonderful views all around access to beach was a bit difficult due to lots of uneven steps down the cliff face, but once negotiated it was well worth it as the beach was very stoney but a pleasant beach that went on for miles. All in all a very nice place to stay.

    Disliked:

Access road to the site was very narrow and quite steep.

Access to beach was very steep with uneven steps going down.

Bird spikes on top on swings, seriously a no no

It was a small touring area we had plenty of room on our pitch

    Disliked:

On the pitch we were on we ended up moving as there was a strong smell of urine so we went to the reception and they said they will get it sorted and said we could move pitch it was a pity we could not take our dog in to the bar area as it rained and it was open where the dogs were allow we would have gone to the bar more often if we were allowed to take the dog also there was not any soap in the dispenser in the men's toilet for the whole week

Very clean toilet facilities and swimming pool was great for the kids. Very enclosed pitches so felt like you had privacy. Nice to have access to the beach with just a 60 second walk. Lovely sunset over the beach that could be seen from all views of the site.

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike.

An ok site but won't be going back 30/07/2017

Amenities were good, swimming pool, restaurant etc. Although we had three wrong orders within our meal/drinks. But they were corrected..

    Disliked:

The grounds need updating. They were clean but very untidy as far as landscaping is concerned. Signage isn't very clear between pitches.
Entertainment is very poor and basic. The path down to beach needs attention, quite dangerous in places.
The beach isn't a nice beach (which is no reflection on park) but it's very stoney and not ideal for kids to play on.

Great views. Friendly staff and fellow campers. Pictures of the site on web pages are a true image of the camp.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the entertainment was poor but we except that it had only just started and the camp was quite empty so not many people in the clubhouse.

Local attractions

Pick up a safari tour at Dulverton or Dunster to see Exmoor’s wildlife in sit-down style, or take to your feet or wheels to explore the park’s walking and biking routes.

Going there by night? Exmoor National Park is the first designated International Dark Sky Reserve in Europe: watch the stars twinkling at Haddon Hill or Wimbleball Lake, the first designated Dark Skies Discovery Site on Exmoor.

The country park at Wimbleball is worth hanging around for a day or two too: it’s managed by the South West Lakes Trust and has an activity centre, trout fishery, bike route and nine-mile lake walk.

Minehead nine miles away from St Audries Bay has a couple of record breakers: it’s the starting point of Britain’s longest walking trail, the South West Coast Path, and it has the country’s longest standard gauge heritage railway, West Somerset Railway, starting at its station and running just over 20 miles to Bishops Lydeard.

And it’s also where you can drop the kids off at the Minehead Eye’s indoor skate park, internet café, free workshops and roller discos: kids aged eleven and over can spend the evening here on their own with parental permish.

For smaller Somerset campers, Burnham-On-Sea and Brean are just along the coast for donkey rides and beaches, with the Animal Farm Adventure Park and the Brean Leisure Park nearby.

Weston-super-Mare is also within easy driving distance and has miles of clean beaches, refurbished pier, a SeaQuarium, more donkeys and Britain’s only helicopter museum: give it a whirl.

From Weston-super-Mare, wander inland near Wells to spot the witch of the Wookey Hole Caves, one of Somerset’s most famous attractions, or to Cheddar to Gorge on cheese, go strawberry hunting and hiking on the Mendip Hills or snap more Somerset views from the Lookout Tower outside Cheddar Gorge.

Both Bristol and Bath are within a couple of hours’ drive from Minehead for day trips, with Cardiff reachable from Bristol in less than an hour.

There are several other Somerset essentials to see within driving distance: cider farms at Taunton and Washford; two vineyards at Bridgwater; the Blackdown Hills to hike after the Quantocks, and famous Glastonbury and its abbey about forty minutes’ drive away.

Must see

  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (18.2 miles)
  • Millennium Stadium (21.1 miles)
  • The Cardiff Story (opens April 1st 2011) (21.2 miles)

National Trust

  • Coleridge Cottage (5.2 miles)
  • Dunster Castle (7.6 miles)
