One of the best camping experiences we have had 20/07/2017

Not usually one to fling out five stars all over the place, but this trip was utterly lovely. Peaceful, clean, friendly, great location and a couple of little extras (fridge, freezer, badgers!) that really made this 'back to basics' camping feel like a real treat.

Loved hearing various animals about the place and not much else, the seclusion of the site, despite being next to a 'tourist' attraction, and the ability to star gaze without anything interrupting the view apart from a few bats zipping about the place.

A 90 second walk to the lake, 15 minute stroll to the dam and water sports centre and only few minutes drive into beautiful Dulverton - this place has it all!

    Disliked:

Didn't dislike anything, genuinely. In terms of other people's expectations, probably good to be aware that it is a working farm, with all the animal noises and smells you get from that, and the field is sloped, so a completely flat pitch has to be hunted out. The shower and toilets are in an old farm outbuilding - no Molton Brown toiletries or attendant on hand to give you lollipops. therefore, but they are spotlessly clean and serve the purpose they are there for.

They have lake views, but due to nature, as in, stuff grows (shock horror!), the view can be obscured by hedges etc, so may be worth checking before your trip if this is important to you.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Caroline and Brian really made us feel welcome and gave us some great tips of where to walk to and where the local pub was which was delicious! They also took the children to feed the baby lambs and cow which they loved and have spoke about lots since being back. So close to the lake, just a short walk through a little paddock of lambs. Close to the water sports and the Dam. Facilities are basic but clean with plenty of toilet roll. We had such a lovely weekend and will be back!! Thank you!

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but ground isn't completely flat, we just adjusted how we slept and it was fine.

Peaceful, quiet (can only hear the birds and occasional farm vehicles), excellent location with very quick access to the stunning lake. Very clean toilets, shower and washing up room. Freezer and fridge available for campers to use which was very useful! Bbqs and camp fires allowed. Brian and Caroline were lovely and very helpful and welcoming. They even allowed us to help them bottle feed the lambs which was a highlight!! Absolutely stunning, had a wonderful long weekend and were sad to leave!

    Disliked:

The ground is quite sloped but the field was not too overcrowded so could avoid it and still find a fairly flat bit to camp on.

Was really impressed with this campsite!! The location is amazing, walk through a small field and you're at the lake. Breathtaking views and such a great spot.

Caroline and Brian are very helpful and went the extra mile. They took my two daughters out to help feed some lambs and see a new calf. You can buy firewood from the campsite which is always best way to finish the day!

Walk along the lake and up to the watersports centre and you can take a canoe out. If you go the opposite direction visit the dam which is well worth a look. Nice pub not so far away called the George but is a drive rather than walk. Will be returning for a longer stay.

Brian and Caroline are fantastic hosts, they sent us an email with directions, made us feel welcome, they even have a fridge and a fridgefreezer for the guests. We very much enjoyed our walks around Wimbleball Lake. Spectacular views we had! Waking up to singing and chirping birds was great, too. Also, we had a chance to watch sheep being sheared, which was a new experience for us and added a bonus to our holiday.

Clean and family friendly site 26/06/2017

Great campsite to get away from everything. No wifi or mobile signal so don't expect to update your facebook or instagram. Although a little off the beaten track it was relatively easy to find. There was no need to check in and as we went out of school holidays we were the only ones there apart from the birds.

If you want to get away from everything this is perfect. There are some great walks around the lake which is minutes away from the site.

    Disliked:

Not a dislike but if there are more than a few pitches you may have to wait for the shower and toilets as there is only one shower and 2 toilets

    Peaceful
    No signal on phones

    Disliked:

Felt mislead thought the campsite was lake views, on arrival there was only one pitch that was lake view (which we weren't told was available until host offered it to a family) so very disappointed by that

From the manager...

We are glad that you enjoyed the peace and quiet and the lack of phone signal. We were sorry that you were disappointed with your pitch but the pitch that you refer to is an overflow pitch that is sited behind a mobile home and is only used very rarely. Ordinarily all pitches have a view of the lake but this year the hedges have grown up to be very tall. We only lay the hedges every two years to promote better tree growth and provide nesting sites and refuge for wildlife. In the second year of growth the views do become a little obscured especially if there has been vigorous growth like we have seen this year.
We hope you decide to visit us again next year after we have laid the hedges in the traditional manner this winter and then you will see just how great the views can be.

Beautiful spot, helpful owners, fires/dogs allowed, quiet and peaceful 20/06/2017

Location - a small field from the lake, almost equidistance between the cafe/activities and the Dam. (Although, the lake cannot be viewed from the site as there are high trees surrounding.)
Quietness - small site, only had 2 neighbours on our stay and not a lot else around to spoil the peace.
Owners - lovely people, happy to help, nothing seemed too much trouble.
Fridge in facilities block. Fires and Dogs allowed.

I'm not willing to put this as a dislike as it doesn't bother me at all when camping - However, the facilities do exist and they were perfectly acceptable to my standards of cleanliness and functionality, but don't turn up expecting toilet and shower blocks like the big campsites. It is a barn, it's not lined with tiles or wipe clean plastic surfaces and has a lot of what brochures would call 'character.'

    Disliked:

Sloping field with minimal flat/flatish spots. We did have an 'almost' flat pitch though. The slope just limits your options.

Directions

There is a similarly named campsite next door to us, please follow these directions to make sure you get to us:

Take the M5 motorway to Taunton (Junction 25). From Junction 25 take the A358 in the direction of Minehead for 8.4 miles. Turn left onto the B3224 and travel for 10.8 miles, this takes you past a large pub called Raleghs Cross. After you have passed Raleghs Cross take the second turn right and follow the signs to Wimbleball Lake. After you have crossed the road bridge over the lake, take the first left towards the café and picnic area, keep going past the café and sailing club. We are at the end of the road on the right and there is a sign saying Wimbleball Holidays/South Greenslade Farm.

Our telephone number will be in the Pitchup.com booking confirmation email in case you get lost, but there is not much mobile reception around here! If you have a satnav our postcode (TA22 9NU) takes you to a house 500 metres from the farm. When the satnav tells you that 'you have reached your destination' keep on going to the end of the road (bear left at the fork) and we are the first house on the right with an arch over the gate.
