Small site with clean facilities. 02/09/2016

The position is great for walking and sight seeing, and 30 minutes from the coast. Clean facilities, small campsite. Beautiful views. Nice cafe.

    Disliked:

The site is unmanned and so some campers took advantage and were playing music until the wee small hours. If you stay during the week you will find out about the quarry that is just around the corner. They start work early ( around 7:30) and finish late ( around 12 midnight). Loud enough to disturb you even if you wear earplugs. We arrived on a Saturday and left on a Wednesday. The bins weren't emptied at all during this time and were overflowing.

The area was peaceful and natural. The cafe was very homely and the staff were all very friendly and do helpful. The facilities were well equipped and clean. The pitch was perfect, level ground and large space. The addition of picnic tables was great and the ability to have bbqs and fires was brilliant. Also all for a fantastic price.

Lovely site, facilities do the job. Shame about the main road. 20/08/2016

Pitching field was on a slight incline but was perfect for us. There was only one other tent when we stayed so had plenty of space. The site has a few picnic benches dotted around and also a few fire pits. As per another review on this site we walked into the wooded area at the back of the field and within 20 minutes had enough dead fall wood to keep us going for both nights of our stay, with some left over too. The toilets, showers and washing up area werent exactly marble clad, gold finished hotel grade facilities, but they served the job and were nicer than I expected, and cleaned every day. The site is in a beautiful part of the landscape with loads of walking to be done in the area. I would definitely return to this site.

    Disliked:

Unfortunately the site is right next to a main road. This road has 2 active quarries within 3/4 a mile from the site, there areally a great deal of HGV's using the road and you can easily hear the sirens and other noises from the quarries in your tent. This really bothered me on our first nights stay, but on the second night after a long hike and a few ciders I slept though until the morning. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs!

Location is beautiful, cafe good. Staff very friendly.

    Disliked:

Showers and toilets are poor. 95% of the site is on a slope. Access roads can be narrow and twisty.

From the manager...

Sorry you didn't feel our site was worthy of a positive review on this occasion.
The toilets and showers are cleaned regularly, so we're both disappointed and surprised that you have mentioned their poor condition.
Cheddar is a beautiful but historical area, the country roads are featured heavily throughout the village. Our site is easily accessed by vehicles big and small, therefore this comment should not reflect against the actual accessibility of our campsite.

nice hot shower with a lovely large shower cubicle
    very clean facilities

One campsite bin which was completely overflowing so effectively nowhere to put rubbish
Very expensive for a tent with 2 people, poor value for money

Showers were great, picnic benches on the site are a nice idea, and veggie breakfast in the cafe is highly recommended.

    Disliked:

Only one ladies toilet caused a bit of a problem when the site got busy over the weekend. The queue was 8 deep at one point. The cafe staff are happy to put freezer blocks in their freezer for you but as the cafe shuts at two, it can be difficult to retrieve them of you're out all day. Another toilet block ... with a freezer in it, would make this pretty much the perfect campsite.

The site was clean and tidy and well kept with 50/50 level pitches 13/07/2016

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Kevin M. Confirmed

  • Liked:

The site overall was very quiet customer wise so managed to pick a level pitch away from any disturbances from any other possible campers. Toilets and shower block were clean and usable with a couple of sinks for dishwashing and a stand pipe for drinking water. Didn't see any staff except when we initially booked in at the cafe, which looked very nice although we didn't use the cafe. I thought it was nice that we were left to our own devices. Price was very reasonable for a functional site. Overall an enjoyable experience and would stay again if in the area.

    Disliked:

Disliked the morning noise of the sirens and machinery from the local quarry but apart from that was quiet. Understandable that the owners would not be able to do anything about this and it did not detract a great deal from the overall experience.
