General

  • Award-winning pod park overlooking the Mendip Hills
  • For ages 18 and over only
  • A short stroll to Cheddar village and Cheddar Gorge

How is Cheddar Bridge Touring Park gorge-ous? Let its flow of former guests – count the wheys: it’s scenic, four-star and overlooks the Mendip Hills; it’s a former Cheddar in Bloom winner for its viewsome flowers, and it has the River Yeo flowing through it – just look at those pics.

If you’re a peace-loving peep, you might also brie chuffed to know that Cheddar Bridge is firmly for ages 18 and over, so no footballs should bang against your holiday home wall at six in the morning (unless your other half really can’t help it…).

Once you’re nice and rested, it’s a short stroll from the site to comely Cheddar village, simply striking Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips, the limestone hills that are part of a Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norman Ancient Monument and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Back at base, Cheddar Bridge Touring Park has cosy camping pods with two single beds; each comes with a flatscreen telly too.

Please note

Please note: we are an adults-only site. All guests must be over 18.

Please note we only accept two people per booking; we do not accept groups of couples or any party of three or more people booking separate pitches.

    Everything.........
The shower blocks were spotless, loved the little homely touches, flowers, pictures, hand cream etc.....
The owners were very helpful and pleasant, let us use one of their static caravan verandas to view the fire work display in the next field.
Loved how clean the whole place was, wish all sites were as good as this.

    Disliked:

    Nothing at all.....

Particularly liked the tranquillity of the site. So picturesque with the river running through complete with ducks etc. Touring area thoughtfully planted to offer a little more privacy. Lack of children was a bonus to us the more mature caravanners.
Great location, just a short walk to the town.
Spotless shower block and facilities. Liked the little seating area before entering the shower. Was nice to be able to keep our things dry for a change and to be able to dress in comfort.

Cheddar Bridge is a well run site, within walking distance of Cheddar Village. Generally its very peaceful, but if you pitch by the River, you can get some noise from the Caravan Club Site across the other side. Pitch near the back of the site and you will be ok

    Disliked:

Not the fault of the owners, just a bit of a rant really, but we had a middle aged couple in a camper van next to us, and on both nights they were there, we had to put up with a noisy stereo / radio until 11.00pm..........Why do people book into a site which is promoted as a peace and quiet haven and annoy other people with such unsociable behaviour. Thankfully these people are such a minority.

Minor point but as a new tourer getting in and out with caravan over the stone entrance bridge was “exciting”. Managed it okay. Just go slow!

Directions

Leave the M5 at Junction 22 onto the A371 towards Wells. Follow the signs for Cheddar (12 miles). Continue to follow signs for Cheddar village (do not turn left for the Gorge). Pass through the village with the Stone Cross on your left, and pass the church (the road bends left).

Cheddar Bridge Caravan and Camping Park is immediately on the right. The entrance to the park is over an ancient stone bridge.

Local attractions

Cheddar Gorge and Caves first, of course: you could spend days in one spot just gaping at the gorge, but there’s also climbing and caving to be had, wandering around the heart-stopping stalactite caves (we stand and gawp here too), and puffing up Jacobs Ladder and to the Lookout Tower – it’s only about 300 steps to the tower top…

Delve into the story of the gorge at the Museum of Prehistory, including the famous Cheddar Man: multi-attraction day tickets are available at the gorge for the above as well as for a clifftop walk and open-top bus tour. It’s a similar story at Wookey Hole Caves, which has a wealth of family attractions based around the caves and the famous witch.

In and around Cheddar town, it’s not much surprise to find there are other tasty treats to try: cheese, naturally, but we also recommend a taste trip around the Cheddar Chocolate Company and Cheddar Sweet Kitchen, with grown-up treats available at the Cheddar Ales brewery and at Somerset’s many (many) cider farms and producers. Souvenirs of all should be loaded into the car boot to take home.

Cheddar Bridge Touring Park is roughly halfway between the seaside at Weston-super-Mare and the tiny city of Wells for at least a couple of days’ worth of trips, with Bristol and Glastonbury also within a reasonable drive.

Dive into Bath, also nearby, for Roman remains, spas and Jane Austen; the literature, arts and children’s literature festivals are well worth a look too if you’re in town at the right time.

There are numerous villages dotted about for markets, pubs and picking up local produce; if you feel the urge to burn some of this off, King Wessex Leisure Centre at Cheddar has a pool, sports court and gym.

Hikers and twitchers have the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels to keep them occupied, with the Mendips also well known as a climbing and caving centre. Look out for peregrine falcons and marsh harriers in both areas; to find out more about snipes and other feathery sorts around these parts, the RSPB has a reserve at West Sedgemoor.

Savvy shopper sort? Congratulations: Wells has a market every Saturday and Wednesday, and the biggest car boot market in the south-west is on every Sunday at Winchester Farm, only a quarter of a mile from Cheddar Bridge Touring Park: bring an extra suitcase for your goodies.
