Campsites in Cheddar, Somerset

56 bookable campsites within 15 miles of Cheddar Sorted by distance

It would be a tad cheesy to talk only cheddar about Cheddar. Yup, the Somerset village is the home of Cheddar cheese, the most popular cheese in the UK, but it’s also known for its strawberries grown on the Mendip Hills and is the site of Cheddar Gorge, the biggest gorge in the country. (The gorge is where Cheddar Man was discovered too, which it turns out does not refer to a delicious human-sized slab of cheese but the country’s oldest complete human skeleton.) Caving, potholing and cliff walks can all be had in Cheddar, and if you want other refreshments afterwards, there’s Cheddar chocolate and Cheddar ale to sample too. Nom.

Use your Cheddar campsite as a berth to stagger back to after a trip to Cheddar Gorge or as a base for Somerset as a whole: you can easily reach Wells, England’s smallest city, from Cheddar, or explore other Somerset sights such as Glastonbury and Weston-super-Mare.
