General

  • Award-winning park in a green wildlife haven
  • Heated outdoor pool and play area
  • Bikes and firepits available for hire

There’s more than a hint of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five about Alpine Grove Touring Park: pitches among secret groves of rhododendron, dappled with shade from the oak trees towering above, plus den building in the woods, scavenger trails, biking and hiking adventures around the local countryside, picnics and sausage-fuelled singalongs by the fire. Bet they sell lashings of ginger beer in the on-site shop...

Campers can choose between sun or shade, seclusion among the rhododendrons or a more open grassy area for their pitch. In addition to all the good old-fashioned fun outlined above, there’s a heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis, a play area, plus of course the usual amenities for ablution, laundry, refuse and recycling. Bikes and firepits are available for hire, and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

A level cycle path runs along the disused railway line between Chard and Ilminster, or for a more challenging ride, the 80-mile loop of the South Somerset Cycle Route goes right past the site. There are also plenty of walks for all abilities, and golf, fishing and horse riding nearby.

Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 30/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Very nice family friendly campsite 21/09/2017

Very friendly hosts. We arrived a bit late, but they were more than accommodating. The fire pit rentals are awesome! They practically build the fire for you by supplying you with paper, kindling and wood for £16. I was sceptical that the wood they gave us would last the night, other places I've been to give you fast burning wood so you have to buy more, but one big basket outlasted us into the late night. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Showers are available although we didn't use them. Cool that there is a pool here as well, but was closed for the season. Would love to come back in the summer and camp again.

    Disliked:

Make sure you write down the code for the gate if you are coming and going. As we camped closest to the gate we had a few people running to ask us for the code because they had forgotten. Not a big deal though.

We only stayed one night , Received friendly reception from the owner of the site.
Pitch was level and set among trees and we were directed to a choice of suitable locations to choose to pitch.
Toilet facilities were clean and adequate.
Not a holiday park but a campsite and suited our needs.
    Would return again.

This is a lovely camp site, situated in a beautiful ancient woodland and within 20 minutes of the beautiful Dorset coast.

There is a very well designed adventure play area and a very popular, albeit small, open air swimming pool.

One rather special feature is that for £16 you can hire a fire basket complete with logs, which is quite nice if you are in a large group.

    Disliked:

The only reason I would not give it five is that I would describe the washroom / toilet facilities as poor in comparison with what we have experienced elsewhere.

Perhaps one downside of the fire-pits is that you do tend to suffer from people staying up late into the night making quite lot of noise.

There is no wi-fi at the site.

Large pitches in a beautiful wooded area. Very friendly site, peaceful and secluded. The little pool was lovely for a quick dip and sunbathe. Showers were hot and all facilities although basic were clean and well looked after. Dogs were welcome and ours made lots of friends and enjoyed her holiday as much as we did! Fire pit hire was also brilliant and warming at the end of a damp day... The play area was also enjoyed by many smaller children.

Beautiful and peaceful site. Lots for kids to explore amongst the safe woods. Safe and secure with coded entry gates. Basis ammenities, but enough for what you need without being over the top. Fire pit hire is an amazing option, very cosy in the evening. Will definetly be booking back here again.

Local attractions

All the attractions of south Somerset, Devon and Dorset are within easy reach, so it’s impossible to list more than a few highlights here.... The popular seaside town of Lyme Regis is renowned for its Cobb Beach, fossils and links to Jane Austen, and has a good museum. Forde Abbey, a stately home which used to be a Cistercian monastery, has stunning gardens, and soft fruit lovers will find its ‘pick your own’ farm berry exciting (jostaberries, anyone?).

Europe’s biggest collection of naval aircraft is hosted at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, which regularly hosts special events, from Dalek invasions to drag racing.

Within the lovely orchards of Perry’s Cider Mills, there’s an interesting museum of old cider presses housed in a sixteenth century barn (and, of course, abundant opportunities to sample the results in the farm shop and tearooms).

Must see

  • Mapperton House & Gardens (11.0 miles)
  • Montacute House (11.6 miles)
  • Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (13.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Loughwood Meeting House (7.4 miles)
  • Barrington Court (7.7 miles)
