General

  • Family-run, family-friendly and welcoming site
  • Play meadow with bikes and ride-on tractors
  • Excellent facilities including free hot showers, shop and barbecues

Kids do love this Somerset site. As do their folks, and other grownups, and sorts who come for nearby Longleat Safari Park or to plunge into the ancient splendours of nearby Bath and Cheddar…

Although it's not a big site, family-run Pitchperfect Camping is perfectly set up for stays – '[we were] looked after better than some 5* hotels' was the verdict of one previous guest – with first-rate facilities, friendly welcoming hosts, and topping views of the surrounding Somerset countryside.

As you'd expect, this is a family-friendly site and has baby bathing and baby changing facilities available among its clean amenities; for childish leisure, there's a big grass meadow for running around in and/or zooming around on bikes or ride-on tractors, and a playground with swings, a slide, a sandpit and a trampoline. A toy box with board games and toys as well as a book swap shelf are also handy if needed.

Site facilities include free hot showers, a family unit also suitable for disabled guests, and a field shelter with washing-up area, two fridges and freezers, a kettle and a toaster. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available for a reasonable charge.

The Pitchperfect shop is small but well stocked, selling local produce including the site's own fresh free-range eggs and home-grown veg, locally produced beer and (a must in these parts), crisp Somerset cider.

The site also has brick barbecues for the free use of anyone who fancies it – because gathering around a grill for a picnic is pretty pitchperfect on holiday too.

Excellent site with fantastic staff and facilities. Best ever for us. 18/07/2017

This campsite is absolutely fantastic. We stayed from 10th July - 16th and our party included myself, my husband, my 20 month old daughter and for the Friday and Saturday night my brother.

The family that run the site are super friendly, relaxed and helpful! I can't praise the site enough.

The facilities included a large family bathroom with a bathtub, changing table, sink which was really handy at bedtimes with our 20 month old daughter. The showers are clean, tidy and cheerful.

There is a kitchen with two fridges, a microwave, kettle, toaster, 2 hobs for cooking on, lots of sinks for washing up, 2 washing machines (£3.50 a wash including powder and fabric conditioner) and a tumble dryer. There is a table in the kitchen with lots of spare crockery, cutlery, cooking items and food in case you forgot anything.

The reception area also hosts a lovely little shop which offers tinned and dried food, fresh milk, locals ales and ciders, chocolate, crisps and cooking/fire supplies to name but a few. We hired a fire pit on the Saturday night which was £10 - firepit, wood, firelighters, skewers and marshmallows included which the lovely owner brought down to our pitch and set up for us.

The layout of the site is great if you have children. Tents only round the edge with a great area in the middle with swings, climbing frame, trampoline and slide. You can sit back and relax in your chair with a glass of wine and the BBQ going whilst keeping an eye on the children.

There are goats, chickens, a cat and a sweet Donkey and Horse who seem to be good friends.

Particularly good customer service moments -

On the Tuesday we ran out of gas for our little cooker and went down to the shop to buy some more but sadly they didn't sell any due to the safety regulations around selling gas. However the gentleman at reception offered to lend us another cooker which needed propane cans instead. I asked how much for lending it (included a bottle of propane) and he insisted we could borrrow it for free which was really kind. The cooker was a lot better than ours and we ending up buying our own whilst out for the day.

On the Friday night we had a disposable BBQ but it wouldn't get going and looked very sad. I went to the shop again in reception to get another tray and the gentleman told me that they weren't that great and said we could borrow his bucket BBQ and all we needed was a bag of charcoal for £2.50 which he sold us. Yet again saved our bacon on the cooking front!

And lastly on the Sunday my husband managed to lock the car keys in the car with our daughter in her car seat as we were about to leave the site after packing up. In a panic he and my brother manged to shatter the front window. Great in the sense that we got the keys and could get to our daughter but it was going to be a draughty ride home with no window! So yet again they saved our bacon by coming up to help clear the glass. We drove down to reception and out came their Henry Hoover to clear up the remaining glass. The owners then got a sheet of clear plastic and taped up our window to stop the wind getting in.

    Disliked:

Did not dislike anything just wish it was closer to us as we live 150 miles away!

No Wifi signal at our pitch but cannot complain - we were camping after all!

Location is great. Staff are excellent. We loved the option of hiring a fire pit but thought it was a bit harsh paying £10 everyday, where as an extra charge for wood each night would have been fairer in our opinion.

The shop was really good and reasonably priced. The staff in there were very friendly and always helpful.

Showers and toilets were very good. Good washing up facilities and awesome to have use of fridge and freezers.

    Really clean and tidy site.

    Disliked:

Pitches a little bit open, which is great if you have kids, but we prefer a little bit more privacy and tree cover.

    Not many water points.

Size of pitch is excellent, and there are many amenities provided. I have not seen fridge freezers and microwaves provided on other sites I have visited. The campsite owners were very friendly and helpful. The shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.

    Disliked:

Nothing with the site, although one morning a fire was lit in an adjacent field which because of the wind direction covered the camp field for most of the day. It made every item of clothing and bedding smell for the duration of our stay.

Very friendly and accommodating, I have been once before and dragged a couple friends and their families with and they absolutely loved the campsite.
We will all definitely be back.
Great that there was a bath on site for my boy (8 months old) to have a bath made life so easy.
All the fridge storage is amazing.
Overall by far the best campsite I have been to so far.
They even remembered me from my previous visit 3 years ago!

Lovely warm welcome, and the person booking me in used my name and found out a little about me, then asked about the activity I was doing a few days later, after several more people had come and gone, this was very impressive. The showers are modern, roomy and lovely and hot. The kitchen has loads of crockery, cutlery, fridges, kettle, hot plate and microwave, and lots of space for washing up. The field is big, with a nice feeling of space, even when the majority of pitches were in use. The owners are super helpful and friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble or unreasonable. It's very handy for Frome.

    Disliked:

Very little to dislike. Visitors seeking absolute peace should probably avoid summer weekends, and be aware that the A36 Bath road can be heard in the distance.

What a great find! We stayed for 2 nights with our 5 yr old choosing an electrical pitch. We booked on line which was exceptionally easy. We were greeted with a warm welcome, the site was full and we felt the facilities were not over stretched, this is a well run site with clean practical facilities can't think of anything missing. We particularly liked the layout with the children's area comprising of swings, trampoline, wooden ship and a sandpit in the centre so they can free run without too much worry. The head torches.slowed down bouncing around 11pm !! The ability to have a camp fire was great and logs delivered by James the owner. Everyone was so friendly mostly staying with kids of a similar age. We would not hesitate in recommending this site and would like to return at some point.

Expect a big friendly welcome from a small perfectly formed campsites. We stayed in the one of the pre-erected bell tents, with futons, fur throws and twinkly lights to boot! If you’re after discos, TV’s and karaoke competitions then this isn’t the place for you but if you’re looking for a campsite where the kids run free and come back to the tent red-cheeked and muddy-footed having spent the whole day outdoors then this is for you. There’s a small play area in the centre where all the kids congregate and which can be viewed from every pitch so parents have nothing more to worry about than toasting the marshmallows (provided free of charge each evening with fire pit and wood for those staying in the bell tents). Chickens, goats and other farmyard animals all add to the charm of this place.

Directions

From Bath – heading south

From the A36 heading towards Warminster you will pass the villages of Hinton Charterhouse and later Norton St Phillip. You will enter into the village of Woolverton and pass the Red Lion pub on your left-hand side. There are three right-hand turns - you will need to take the second, towards Lullington (it is on a bend so be careful and indicate early). This road will take you straight to the campsite - you will drive straight over a mini crossroads and pass Sleight Farm on your right-hand side. We are approximately 300 yards from Sleight Farm on the right.

From Frome – heading north

On the A361 heading towards Bath, you will enter onto the A36. There several roundabouts - continue towards Bath. At the final roundabout in Beckington (which has a Texaco petrol station and Little Chef) keep in the left-hand lane to go straight on to Bath - approximately ½ mile down the road you will pass over the river Frome. Past Toll House, turn left towards Laverton. You will approach a mini crossroad. Turn left and go past Sleight Farm on your right hand side. We are approximately 300 yards from Sleight Farm on the right.

Satellite navigation systems will take you to Sleight Farm; please follow directions as above.

Please drive carefully - the country roads are often single track and used by large agricultural vehicles.

Local attractions

Heaps is around to see and do nearby in Bath and the site surrounds, like Longleat Safari Park and Adventure Park six or so miles away and home to over 500 animals roaming 9,000 acres of countryside, and Europe's most famed and rocking old prehistoric monument Stonehenge over the border in Wiltshire.

You might not be too flabbergasted to learn that nearby Somerset spa town and UNESCO World Heritage Site Bath is best known for its baths from the times of togas, including The Roman Baths complex with bathhouse and temple, restaurant and museum.

While you're in town, also have a wander around Bath Abbey, the Jane Austen Centre and, for a dip, to the 2006 opened and council owned Thermae Bath Spa; if you're around in the evenings, have a music, comedy or club night at award-winning Komedia in the former Beau Nash Picture House.

Other visitors to these parts quite rightly make it a mission to delve into the grate sights of Cheddar Caves and Gorge, the splendid limestone gorge grooved into the Mendip Hills, and of Wookey Hole Caves, the vast caverns to the southern side of the hills.

You could also have a day in Bristol, for its museums, galleries, theatres, live music and over 4,000 listed buildings, and one or two in Shepton Mallet, for the many events of the Bath and West Showground.
