‘What have the Romans ever done for us?’ asks disgruntled Reg in The Life of Brian, while grudgingly conceding such minor innovations as irrigation, the roads, education and wine. They also established the spa town of Bath, which showed great innovation in engineering if not in naming, although this might have been too far from the People's Front of Judea to appease rebellious Reg. Now only one of a few cities in Britain to have World Heritage Site status (the others are Liverpool and the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh, pub quiz people), Bath was made into a top tourist attraction by the Georgians, who carried on the Roman tradition of chattering at the baths while the lower orders scurried about doing all the work. Tsk.

Base yourself at a Bath campsite to wallow luxuriously as the Romans did and to swan around the other highlights of the city, or go to one of Bath’s many festivals: details of events and local festivals are on all our listings, with activities and nearby leisure searchable for holiday parks in Bath and elsewhere using the Pitchup.com filters.
